Because it's created by Nintendo, they sure do have a good fan base.

The PSP had to many hardware issues, so the competition was weak in sales.

    OOOooooook...

Let's say you are a 68 year old lady with two grandchildren who love these video games.

What's the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of video games? NINTENDO!
They made a name for themselves so by default, Grandma will go and buy only what she knows for her grandchildren.

Thanks to my friends at Something Awful for creating one of my favorite photoshop phridays, Video Game According to Grandma.

It sells because its hand held its new and its not too expenisve.

The games are pretty cool because they are retro and the fact that they are coming out with FF3 is pretty big as well.

This is the 2nd post youve made in about a week where you bitch about the DS. Its afordable, massive library of games, has a genre of games that cant be found ANYWHERE else (im talking about the touchpad games, such as Brain Age, Kirbys Canvas Curse, and Lost Magic just to name 3).

95% of the world buys handelds to play games, aka gameboys. 4.5% buys them for music, aka iPods, and 0.5% buys them to watch movies, aka PSP. Go play..err look at, your PSP.

    **DISCLAIMER**

The numbers mentioned above are not fact, just a transtlation to reality, so dont take them as fact.

Yeah I also think the DS is crap.

I used one for a couple hours and got a bad case of 'insta-carpatunelzzz'
The thing is so uncomfortable... to hold, to play... I'm pretty thin but my thumb blocks out the whole screen. When I use the stylus the DS transforms from a Handheld... to a laptop... because holding it with one hand while pressin the buttons and using the stylus just hurts my hand, my head, my eyes, and my ego.. lol

I must admit I would really like to try BrainAge and that other game Odama? i think it is... but i just can't bring myself to BUY carpa-tunelzz. For the most part i was only watching one of the screens anyways....

All that being said... I understand that Nintendo has the NAMe so all they really need is 5-6 AWesome games... and that will carry their system... The rest of their games dont even have to be good because every person who buys a DS buys those 5-6 games and then gets extras down the line.

because of super mario, the same super mario game that was made for super nintendo.

at least that is for me, but that game being made on the DS was disappointing, because i realy hate any hand held game console, because they're so not easy to use.

wait... the touchscreen is a gimmick? lol

The touchscreen is a great and innoventive new way of controlling instead of using a ridiculous lousy pseudo analog crap controller.

UMD is a gimmick. MP3 Player is a gimmick. Online Browsing is a gimmick. The analog is pure crapness.

Ever tried Metriod on DS? Then you'll see how superior the console design is to psp.

Nevertheless, I don't play on handheld.

I got a DS and a PSP, and i strangely cant seem to spend any time playing the PSP, while i play my DS probably every day... If you prefer shiny eye candy go with the psp, if you like innovative gameplays go with the DS, but if you have a ps2/xbox, there is no point in buying a PSP, same games, different format... that's probably one of the factors to why ppl buy a DS.

But, they have a lot of popular hits....fancy graphics and your moving robot cars are non-sense when you have a DS.

The fact is that PSP was just as much a gimmick as the touch pad although wait... Nintendo actually has implementation of their gimmick in reasonable ways... ::::18::

As was mentioned... UMD? Yes, let's make a "Universal Media Disc" therefore implying that we are trying to create a new crappy "universal" medium that only "we" have the patent to, therefore making it not so "universal" after all ::::18::::::18::::::18::

Then let's have online browsing... but wait, our screen is so small that you even have to scroll to the side on google in order to get to the input box. Oh wait, don't forget that you don't have any touch screen, so inputting characters is even more annoying than typing on a cellphone. Then, let's not mention that when we release the system, let's not have encryption bypass programmed into the firmware, so most people can't even use the internet until they take down their encryption in order to get the firmware updates. (Yes, I have had to do this firsthand because my girlfriends mom got one and their stupid firmware didn't support any encryption)

So, let's see here, that's how hard it is to get the PSP online... let's see the Nintendo DS.

With the nintendo DS you have 1 of 2 ways. Firstly, you have the standard 802.11 router, which it can simply link into NO PROBLEMS. I sat down, entered my encryption key, and went. Second, if you don't have one (which a lot of people don't) then sell a nice little USB stick that creates one uniquely for the Nintendo DS. It's amazing how much they think of their customers isn't it?

    Next Gimmick: the touch pad.

I'm sorry that you find it to be such a gimmick, but it's much more than that. Why does something innovative have to be a gimmick? Why can't someone want to try to implement something new for once instead of just making an overpowered computer with nothing interesting to it *cough* PS3 *cough*

Next you're going to tell me that the Wii controller is a gimmick ::::18::

Honestly, before you make such uneducated posts, pick up the system. The stylus is put to amazing uses (such a Metroid Prime: Hunters, Yoshi Touch & Go, Nintendogs, Meteos) and yet the gimmicky features like UMD really have no use... I mean, who wants to pay MORE for a UMD movie than a DVD? That's totally illogical ::::12::

Yea, all that and...UMD is dead. The technology died months ago. What company wants to pay double-quadrouple to produce a product that dosent sell worth a damn, when they can stick to DVDs which are cheaper than cheap to make, and sell left and right. Who in their right mind would pay $20-$30 for a movie to watch on a 4 inch x 2 inch screen, when you can get newer movies, and a bigger selection, for $15-$20 to play on your TV? I know the whole "bu7 1tz port4bl3 nub lolz" deal, but the only time you would ever have time to sit there and look at the PSP for 2 hours would be if you were on a road trip...and not driving.

Maybe it is that those little brats like to buy them the sales go up. My brother has one, the old one atleast. From what i've heard I know that something called the DS Lite came out for same price and some updates?

Thats just what i know don't get me wrong. I don't have any handheld systems besides my very old gameboy from like 8 years ago or something.

But yeah, is the DS Lite some kind of better version?

See, those seem to be the only games there are. (That even whould intrust me) So thats why I haven't gotten a DS yet. Also the selection of PSP games that intrust me is even worse. I don't know... I want a new portable system and I might get the DS for the orginally FF3, but I want something more like maybe castlevaina at least. Has that been released for the DS?

Well me and my friend bought a DS between us and I have to say, biggest waste of money. They are no way as good as people seem to think they are, we never learn that if we don't witness the games first hand, then there's a 50% chance they are a piece of crap.

Yes, I recomend Castlevania : Dawn of Sorrow. I just beat it finally 2 nights ago, great game. There is alot of customization you can do to your characters combat ability.

Yeah Castlevania in the DS is probably the 2nd best just after Symphonie of night, very good game, but there is more good games, Lost Magic is pretty unique, Metroid, Mario 64 DS, Under the knife, Advanced Wars DS, Brain Training, and others!

yes, Nintendo DS just sucks. Heaven forbid nintendo tries something new for a change

I think its pretty cool. all the previous handhelds have always been just miniversions of consoles with worse graphics. Nintendo DS is finally something NEW! PSP is just a playstation 2 with some extra features slapped on it.

Just because the typical handheld console is considered a "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" concept, that doesn't mean we can't make giant leaps with innovation. I love what Nintendo is doing with the Wii and DS, no matter if it's going to be the next big thing, or a giant flop. The fact that it's something new and something completely fresh means it has unforeseeable potential.

Microsoft and Sony can keep doing what they're doing, trying to get better performance, better graphics, better physics, coupled with some [real] gimmicks like MP3 player, storage, webcam... but in the end, if they're not revolutionizing the way we play games and the games themselves, then they're just out to make a faster horse.
