Is Everquest 2 Worth a try?

Darkstrider8Darkstrider8 Member Posts: 23

Ok well, I'm a veteran SWG player who has been playing WoW waiting for a roll-back on SWG, which doesn't look like is going to happen...

I'm tired of WoW.

I can't find a good MMO to play.

I was wondering... Is Everquest 2 worth a shot?

Please explain things that make EQ2 good in your reply, and things that make it bad...

How is the recently implemented PvP? How's the gameplay? Hows the PvE? Hows the instancing? Hows the questing? etc. anything you can think of, please.

Thanks, I actually have the game... me and my father tried it a while back but only played for like 2 hours and then gave it up all together because it didn't have pvp, but now it does so... I'm just curious as to how well they implemented it.

The PvP is implemeted well.  I dont have a very high level toon on the PvP servers but so far it's been a blast.  Heres a tip if you plan on PvP'ing, roll a scout.  You'll thank me later.

funny how i am also a SWG veteran waiting for a 2 year rollback
i have been doing every single 15 day trial for every single MMO that has a trial period and i found out that EQ2 is by far the best MMO (IMO) out there. it has... had... a similar crafting system as SWG and EQ has been one of the highlights of SOE. i have decided about 2 hours ago that i would go out after work drink some beer and then go buy EQ2 and subscribe. im only on my 5ft day of the 14 day trial and im loving it so much.

ive also been reading on future developments of the game and they do not look at all like SWG crashers. (more specifically the Monthly Bounty hunter nerf). the devs actually listen to the player comunity.

so my bet is yeah go for it (oh and graphics and music are insane!!!)

What do you mean the devs actually listen? It can't be any different than SWG as far as customer service goes, because they are both made by SOE.

Software developers always listen, it’s part of their job, but you shouldn’t be so self absorbed as to assume they should always listen to *you*.  Games designed by committee always turn to crap, games that open that even wider and let the animals run the farm are always beyond crap.  (Note that player controlled development isn’t the same thing as a player run economy or other similar in game feature.)

A successful game needs focus, and player feedback is important in determining how well they are meeting their targets but listening to people doesn’t mean trying to give everyone everything they want.  SWG changed focus mid stream and that is a problem, however that isn’t something SOE has had a problem with in other games, and it certainly isn’t a problem with EQ2.

If you don’t like the focus and where the developers are trying to go, you need to find a game more suited to your preferences.  If the developers change their focus, or don’t give you enough information about what their focus is then that is a developer problem, but SWG is the only SOE game that has suffered from this type of problem.  EQ2 has stuck to most of its original goals and every change SOE has made has been to emphasize what they have always said the game would be and because of this it’s evolved very nicely indeed.

I didn't care for the slow loading, the memory leak, and the Benny hill combat movement.

EQ in general has been one of the most sucessfull MMOs out there, SWG dev seemed to ignore the better part of the comunity to improve the jedi (pre NGC or NGE wtv that new system is called) it got to a point (when i quit) where bounty hunters had less defence than dancers... you can also go check the SWG forums on the early bounty hunter posts and you will see what i mean...

SWG is probably the only bad game from SOE.

I wonder about that maybe the devs only do massive changes to save a game.  You go onto SWG and walk the flieds and see all the great resource spots taken up and go into the massive player ghost towns.

People play the game get all the good spots put a years worth of upkeep on all their equipment and cancel their accounts.  Or just come on to harvest their resources and sell at an inflated price.  I scoured the landscape trying to find a good resource spot and every red area had harvesters.  But where are the people that they belong to??

Err... the 'good' spots move. ;) about once, sometimes twice, a week actually.  Or did they take that out with the NGE too?

No it hasn't changed and now you can't do harvestor farms with alts from other people on other servers anymore because only the person that places the harvestor can admin it.

I have to say it's a great improvement to me, you don't see the rediculous amount of harvestors going anymore. It will be interesting to see the results once the long running vets run out (like I am starting too) of their mineral stores and prices start going up due to increased demand on minerals.
