What i dont understand is, why are humans so imperfect, yet are perfect in Gods eyes. It's wierd, seeing someone you love walk out on you, but to God, i guess it would be the perfect thing for a person to do. Life, a mystery, or just the hell of being alive?

Well first of all I have to warn you of all the shortcoming before we move on, I don't want to give you pros without the cons. These are some of the biggest gripes about FFXI:
1)Forced grouping
2)Lack of the ability to solo
3)Multiple level grinding
4)Difficult UI
5)Lack of customization for character creation
6)Lack of PvP
7)Being forced to game with Japanese players
8)Random placement of players on servers without the option to choose
Now some of these may not sound like a big deal, but every player has a right to voice his/her opinion. Also some issues can/will be alleviated. Number 4 can be solved by getting a gamepad. Number 6 is being introduced in a up and coming patch. Number 8 can be solved by getting a Worldpass # from a friend.
Now as for the positive things that are included:
1) Graphics are nothing short of astonishing
2)Combat is deep and offers cooperative group attacks(Renkei)
3)Mission-based storyline is the best(and most involving) in most MMORPGs
4)Leveling offers various short and long term incentives
5)Job system offers a way to start your character over without fear of losing any progress
6)Plenty of 'content' to keep you busy(quest, events)
7)Well thought out player-economy system that includes Auction houses and a personal vendor
8)Ingenious conquest system that allows non-combative competition among the nations with rewards
9)Weapon based skills allow players to customize their character's combat abilities
10)Deep crafting system that include NPC guilds that give discounts from guild merchants with advancement
11)Hidden fame stat that increases with each quest completed that allows access to quest with bigger rewards and discounts from town merchants
These are just some of the things that I can think of. In all, FFXI is the type of game that some FF fans were hoping it would be. And it has that FF feel to it that comes from anything with that name attached. Overall I enjoy playing, but not to the point of grinding on a daily basis. As of now my Character stats is as follows:
Monk-->34
Ninja-->18
White Mage-->16
Paladin-->12
Red Mage--6
I'm currently rank 3 with my nations conquest system and enjoy crafting in the art of alchemy(7) from time to time. I never feel the need to try to play catch-up to some of my other associates as I choose to take things in stride. I hope this helps you in making a decision in your purchase and if it does......see you in Vana'diel.
*My 'in-game' name is Tyberious on the Titan server if you happen to get that server.

Yeah like he said there are obviously some cons like forced grouping. But there is so much things that they did well in this game i think you should check it out, im enjoying it so far.
Only got a 20War/10Mnk , i like to go at my own pace.
My first MMORPG ever was UO but that game is a little old now, my second one was dark age of Camelot which is a good game but I dont know if you should start with that either since the /level patch there arent any low levels and will be hard for you to grp and lvl. I think that FFXI would be a good mmorpg to start out with, some people will say that the forced grping is really bad but most mmorpgs now you are going to have to grp plus soloing is just so boring. I also think that if you are a big fan of the FF series you are going to like it, it really has the FF feel to it.
