Problem with mmorpgs...

periodperiod Member Posts: 56

UO wanted to be like EQ2, SWG Wanted to be like WoW, this year so far has been a very bad year for mmorpgs, none are great, they are fun to a point but not great.

WoW got boring quick

If you play WoW EQII Will bore you.

SWG which was VERY fun is now a verrrry watered down WoW. I mean come on i had big hopes for D&L but it is the splitting image of the titanic.

COX is very repetitive.

I mean whats happening every mmo is now becomming boring to fast since they all want to copy WoW...big hyped games are turning out to be crappy...maybe its the sign of the apocalypse?

WOW is a copy of others since the beginning. Don't act like WOW is the first with those ideas. Nothing is new in WOW.

WoW copyed games for the better. Dont tell me todays games changed their games in WoWs footsteps. SWG and EQ2 both changed to be more WoW like, imo made EQ2 better but ruined SWG.

You are just one of the crazy WOW fans.

Don't even try to hide it. We still remember your spam posts. And even we don't, still can see that from this thread.

Everything in WOW, you can find in some other games in better form.

WOW has nothing new, nor is the best.

Just another clone with the best marketing.

Like others said, WoW just combines all the good stuff in other MMO's, there's nothing unique in it.

If you're looking for a different online game take a look at GW, although people are always arguing that it is not an MMO that simply classifies it as the most unique game on this website and should be given a serious look. If a game is so original that people argue over it's classification it must be doing something that other online games don't have.

the "Problem with mmorpgs..." is that they are not RPG's anymore. They focus on a particular aspect of a video game.

WoW didn't do anything new or improved, it simply made leveling easier, put in console style play, and "capture the flag" at the end. It also stripped out any freedom of gameplay. Simplified EVERYTHING and turned into a big raid or honor point grind.

There is no interdependancy at all, there is no real customization, the players have no impact whatso ever on the gameworld, there is no freedom of action - everything is predone for you, It is a HUGE setback for MMO's.

Its a PS2 game with lots of people.

The main problem now is that designers will be cloning this style for years to come.

So to the OP, its not the sign of the "apocalypse" so to speak, its a sign of "more of the same" as many companies will be trying to get a piece of that 6.6 million pie.

I stopped taking you seriously after reading this.

Really though, this is a great example of why we read over our posts before we click the "POST MESSAGE" button.

Maybe you are lumping together games that have absolutely nothing to do with each other and ignoring all of the very large differences between them so that you can try to claim every game is "trying to be like WoW".

I can't think of any other reason you are claiming CoX and WoW are even remotely similiar to each other.  The differences between CoX and WoW are as great as the differences between WoW and UO.  Are you claiming every online RPG that has levels and advancement is trying to be like WoW?

heh well its easy to classify. GW is a traditional singleplayer game with traditional multiplayer option to let you fight arena fights. Lots of other games are in the same category =)

Well, if you really want to look at Guild Wars, it's actually a multiplayer game with single-player options, without actually being massively multiplayer in a traditional sense. It really mixes elements of MMOGs and traditional RPGs. Few, if any games fit into that category.
