Trading/Black Market Trading

I tried the EVE trial a while back thinking I could make a black market trader to play. I soon found out that there aren't many black market traders in the game. I asked in the IG chat channels about it and responses varied from "Isn't implemented yet" and "It's broken" to "It's not easy" and "it's hard to get into". I was considering giving EVE another try and I was wondering if anyone can explain a bit more about black market trading and how it works in EVE. Also, if black market trading isn't a viable way to play, I would like to know more about how regular trading works in EVE. Thanks

well - what do you mena by "black market trading"?

If you mean buying and selling items that are "illegal" in different empires - then yes it is there already, just very difficult.

There are a number of items (like various drugs, small arms, spiced wine, slaves etc) that are legal in certain empires, and illegal in others. There are various stations that buy and sell these items, and many NPC agents who make offers either giving these illigal items, or needing them for something else.

Finding who needs these items, and how much they will pay for them is the challenge.

the NPC customs agents partol certain gates (and they move around) and if they spot you with illegal goods in your ship ythey are confiscated and you pay a fine (and in some cases they shoot you).

Black market trading works exactly the same as normal trading, just with the added bonus of certain NPCs being out to get you.

I've never had them confiscate my items, but I was fined and took a small sec hit for each gate I passed through.  Though, that was before Covert-Ops ships.  Smuggling could be completely different with those things.  But, as far as a smuggling career goes, the two choices are "it's not implemented yet," or, "it's broken."  I wish there was something else to say about it, but at the moment, smuggling is very difficult.  It's possible.  Just difficult.

We can agree to disagree, or we can bicker constantly... either way, I'm right.
