The Conan books have sold approx. 60 million copies, in addition to the comics. Funcom have secured the rights to the name, and are now putting several hundred millions of kroner (NOK, Norwegian currency) on the line to make Conan an online game.
Gaute Godager: The way we make the game is that we plan first, writing the design and generally planning the game. Then we make all the things that go into the game; items, the world, programmed things... and in the end, it's all tied together, tested and polished.
Conan takes place in year 10 000BC, where the men have big muscles and the women have big boobs. Alot of work is put into how the characters look, and what they're going to wear. But, you can also decide yourself.
Gaute Godager You have incredibly many options you can adjust to create your own character. For instance age, facial features, eyecoler, skincolor, haircolor, hairlength, physical attributes, size.. you can adjust more or less everything to create the character that you want to be in the game.
An average player will use approx. 20 hours a week on Conan. A realistic enviroment is therefore very necessary, for people to really immerse themselves in the game. Conan's world is inhabited by monsters, but what are you supposed to do with them?
Gaute Godager: Maybe the most common thing is to actually fight them, when you're on 'adventure'. There are alot of dangerous trolls and creatures that you have to conquer to win the treasure.. (He uses a Norwegian fairytale analogy here, so the sentence doesn't really fit in English )
Young men are already in the progress of switching from the TV to online games, and there's all reason to believe that Conan will further strengthen that trend...
