I've gone without playing any MMORPGs for about a year. Now this summer I realize that there are patches of time that I want to devote to an MMORPG. I currently own the games for WoW and CoH, and played both for about 2-3 month (I stopped playing each due to complications with my grades and due to those complications a lack of funds to pay for the monthly fee.
Now obviously with a fresh start into MMOs, I'm trying to figure out which I should play. I can easily install WoW or CoH instantly and start up so at first I'm figuring which of the two games I should play. I keep hearing that WoW is the best and a revolution to the MMORPG, but to be honest I'm a little sick of the fantasy/elves/magic and swords stuff. And while I find CoH more refreshing, I keep hearing it's really not that good, and I wasn't fond of the fact that there wasn't any equipment to collect and a lack of customizing a character after the very begining of the game, as well as the fact that right before I left the game I started to feel the slight twinge of repitition. However I felt the same this with WoW.
Also I was always kind of a solo player and I was never really patient about forming a party, so I figure that changed my playing experiance.
Also, if there are any other MMORPGs that are great and a good alternative to the popular WoW than please suggest them since I'll find a way to pick a copy up. I'm a little interested in MxO since I love the Matrix, yet I really hear it was bad.

I would recommend you try Anarchy Online. You can try for free, and the upgrades are incredibly cheap.
I played MXO on release, and I was really turned off to the game. You might, however, really like it. The atmosphere is very reminiscent of CoH...just sub the whole superhero theme for a kind of mercenary/kung-fu theme. My gripes with MXO had a lot to do with the combat system...which was downright awful. Those issues may have been fixed, however.
Again, I think Anarchy Online is a superb game. It's the second most-complex game on the market today...so you'll give yourself a lot of depth to play with.
Second that
Btw,witch one is the most complex?
EVE Online
14 classes over 4 races with three sides to choose between initially and another two in the Shadowlands, allthough factions blend into eachother. Land ownership and city ownership with mob sieges by UFOs which you can board.
I have a hard time recommanding it to new players just because it's old school and won't give you everything on a silver plate, but it's truly a very good game and it's had a impact on todays EQ clones where you'll find some of its genes.
In terms of pure playfields it was rather big when it was launched, then Shadowlands came and its size rivals that of an independent game. Should you get hooked there will be months to years of play to see and do it all.
I actually played AO, and though due to circumstances I wasn't able to get into any higher levels, it was alright. However as ignorant and shallow as it sounds, I want to play something a tad bit more current. But by all means I'll join AO if I decide I'm once again sick of monthly fees.
I heard many of the problems in MxO when it originally came out have been ironed out and that many of the old reviews are no longer valid due to the changes. I love the Matrix and want a break from the fantastical medival esk setting so, I'm torn between CoH and MxO. The only reason I'm considering WoW is first off I own it so I can install it no sweat, and secondly because with so much praise, it's possible some people mgiht say it blows both MxO and CoH out of the water in almost every aspect.
Also I tried to get a free trial key for MxO, but it seems that the offer has expired even though the MxO site is still advertising it complete with a link to Fileplanet. I also tried... that other site who's name I can't remember at the moment.
