I don't think they will be the same at all. WAR hs over 20 years worth of Lore supporting it, And is being made by Mythic, a developer known for quality mmorpgs.
How exactly would the lore be dodgy. Define dodgy in your opinion.

Well, I have to agree that the warhammer lore is about as super-high-fantasy and far out as it gets. Theres really no restrictions concerning the stuff they made (make?) up to justify dopy races or models. But I like it none the less
WoW with better PvP and "worse" PvE is a good thing in my opinion. If by "worse" you mean "Don't have to be 40 people playing in a boring dungeon all night every night of the week and still not reach the best equipment". I kind of like the DaoC style of PvE grind, its not easy as pie but you can get good end game gear pretty fast and it lasts a while.
Is it just me or has the troll population been blooming recently?
And in all honesty I cant even see a correlation between WoW and WAR other than the fact they both incorporate some of the same mythical creatures and are both fantasy based.
WAR isnt a WoW clone. WAR actually has an established history and lore. No one has played the game yet, so presumptions at this point about the PVP and PVE are entirely unfounded.
Just gimme a game where obnoxious 12 year olds cant run around ganking lowbies for a change and I'll be happy. That isnt PvP in my books.
Personally I'm all for a open PvP, I find leveling so much more fun if you have to look over your shoulder all the time. I couldn't care less if the person attacking me is 12
hah their age doesnt matter what does is when they act like theyre 12 after beating someone
but more to the point.... Warhammer and WoW are completely different except for the fact that WAR has orcs =/ other than that there is pretty much nothing in common and as far as the mmos go...
a) completely different "Lore" or storyline b) completely different companies and c) completely different fanbase
A few of the guys that I went to E3 with got to test PvP in WAR when the Mythic booth wasn't full of press, they said that even tho it was kind of crude it played and looked pretty much exactly like WoW. Not saying that is a bad thing tho, in my opinion the GUI, character control, etc, is much better in WoW than in DaoC (which is probably mostly because DaoC is so old). I wouldn't blame Mythic for trying to attract some of the WoW players or stealing some of the things they think that WoW did well.

I think melding PvP and PvE in certain areas can make both better. For example, a 50-person raid killing some huge mega-boss can be fun, but the same raid slaughtering a surprised 50 people from another realm right before killing the boss can be much more fun. Even being the ones killed isn't so bad when it was a good, long, close fight. You get a penalty-free ride home with no after-raid loot lottery and the lowbies get great exp, rp's or whatever. When you don't run into opposition a PvE raid can quickly turn into a PvP raid full of people fearless through the knowledge that if they die they're just getting that free ride home where there's a giant pile of raid loot awaiting them. With possible PvP encounters a run you've done a hundred times can always be different and exiting.

how exactly are these 2 games going to be alike?
They will be in the same genre of fiction just like HP Lovecraft====JK Rowling!
Dodgy? As a negative? Warcraft is nothing more than Warhammer-lite. Both have the same creation story, the same metaphysics, and similar themes (no absolute good and evil). Warcraft just has an infinitely shallower take on the whole deal.
Warcraft "lore" feels like a comic book or anime. Every few years there's a New Menace to Everything That Must Be Stopped. First, orcs from another world. Then it turns out these orcs were duped by Chaos (or... Chaos-lite, from their warp-lite), so they can be good guys (Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch OLOLOL!!!11), because there's an EVILER EVIL that Must Be Stopped If It's The Last Thing We Do. Oh, and they have Elric/Aenarion/Vader on their side. Who's tragic, by the way. Really. Then, that's finished up and it moves on to Bug People.
It's the same villian-of-the-season format that Yu-gi-oh! follows: building up to the next "OMG BIG REVEAL!!!11" but there's not a lot of substance.
Warhammer, on the other hand, follows the form of a history class. Like a book that combines a hybrid of Moorcock's Chaos with Lovecraft, then sticks that in 16th century pre/early-Reformation Germany. It's convoluted, contradictory, thouroughly fascinating, and it doesn't change (much); just like real-life history. It borrows from original sources and finds depth there. There's always more detail to be discovered, new revelations, and established things to debate.
For me, the psuedo-historical/classic swords-and-sorcery style of Warhammer is infinitely more engaging than a lighter, fluffier version. It's like a steak compared to a hamburger, or triple-fermented unfiltered belgian compared to Budweiser. Classic versus mass-market.
We'll see if they pull off the PvP, but when it comes to story, imagery, and graphics, Warhammer is leagues ahead.

That has got to be one of the best descriptions of War i've read so far... What's worse you made me totally craven for a Juicy steak with black'n'white sauce and a Gouden Carolus on the side... Problem is the only 2 places i know where i could get that are closed for summer... Oh the tragedy...

I agree on better PvP. Worse PvE depends on how you look at it. In WAR, PvP and PvE are interchangeable, because other players give experience and drop loot. If you mean "better 40 man raid dungeons" than WoW could possibly win on that front.
As far as lore, no way. Warhammer has decades of lore built up, far more than the Warcraft universe (which is all based on Warhammer to begin with!). I think Warhammer will be the clear winner on the lore front.

I don't know a whole lot about the Warhammer lore, and until playing WoW, I knew nothing of the Warcraft lore. They did a bad job with the lore in WoW -- honestly, they could have left it out entirely, and had each quest giver just say "go and do this, and I'll give you this" and there would have been no real difference to the game in my opinion.
I may have to read up on Warhammer lore sometime, but I have no doubts that it is equal to or greater than WoW's lore. Also, the graphics for WAR are much better -- greater detail, more fine-tuned, etc., and because of that, don't really look anything like WoW at all. It looks much better overall.
From what I have read about the combat system, PvP and PvE, it sounds like it's going to be much more fun than WoW if it's all pulled off. There isn't much worse PvE out there than WoW's post-60 game, and the PvP, while fun for up to and including 35 minutes, is just boring and pointless. It is my belief that WAR will surpass WoW on every aspect -- and with Mythic, I am sure that's almost a guarantee.
While the art style has similarities, the games really don't look that much like each other graphically. WAR most certainly has a darker theme, with armor that looks functional as well as exaggerated. There aren't bright colors all over the place, or useless 4 foot spikes coming out of the shoulders. Furthermore, the detail on each character in these pre-beta screenshots far surpasses the detail on any character I've seen in WoW. The skins are sharper, and the models are better done. From what I've seen of the animation it is also very well done in WAR. It's time the comparisons ended.
Mythic may have adopted a similar UI and controls, but that is a good thing. I have a lot of trouble trying new MMORPG's because there is no standard control/UI setup that each is based on, so there's a steep learning curve to pick up a new game.
As far as lore goes, I like both of them, they are really similar though. You have to give credit to Warhammer though, it's like 15 years older than Warcraft...and while they have a lot of similarities, I'd say Warcraft was heavily influenced by Warhammer, at this point they are really different, and Warhammer has a lot more depth.
So here's what I'd say.....
WAR will be WoW with more meaningful lore that penetrates every part of the game, excellent graphics that portray the WAR universe in graphic detail, with a blend of exaggeration and realism that makes WoW look 5 years old and like a game for little kids, all the while offering the most exciting pvp on the market through a diverse RvR system, and a PvE system designed to support characters for RvR without requiring 40 man raids over and over to get what you need to enjoy the game.

Most MMO's can be compared and found similar. Dodgy lore depends on what they use from the twenty some odd years of story they have to work from. Having not played the game, commenting on the PvP or PvE implementation would be pure conjecture.

There are just way too many threads like this but ok I'm bored so I'll come into the discussion.WAR so far seems to resemble WoW on many things such as the UI(it's a good thing and it's not like it's copyrighted by Blizzard), graphics even though WAR is much more detailed in every aspect and like in a previous post the armor looks like it's exaggerated but works cuz I'm tired as well finding out that I cant run straight on with those giant 3ft. spikes on my shoulders skewer my enemy and walk around with his body as a trophy(why I'm going orc).As for the lore I dont see how it's dodgy the only reason I can find for that is when Paul Barnet(think thats his last name) explained it very vaguely at E3 about just them wanting to kill each other for whatever reason, however it is actually very complicated and their hate is not as simple as in Warcraft and there is more reasoning (besides the simple "I must destroy evil" bs that is in most of the anime and media in general nowadays) in the Warhammer world as to why they fight and why there will never be an end.An example is Chaos(which is more complicated than anything Warcraft has to offer) it is the embodiment of all of man's and possibly other species ..sins if you want to call it that,as long as the desires and hatred of man exists chaos will exist and so man is constantly trying to hold on as long as it can since there is no way of defeating Chaos not because it is powerful but because it is a part of you and to kill it you must kill yourself.Something like that(correct me if I made mistakes still havent grasped all of it) so I have hopefully inspired you to read up on stuff otherwise I have failed and have wasted my time typing this fairly long post.

The thing is here, that WoW tryed to steal the stuff that was good about DAoC.. Battlegrounds :O the PVP is just so disappointing in WoW. there DAoC did well, Very well..
The game with best PVP lasts long, cause there is no meaning in doing instances all day, all night, and then when u get the best Equip, then what to do?? u stand in IF and go afk, cause u are so awesome to look at..
hmm WoW is boring as hell, get level 60 u have tryed all been in all instances once, then i dont seem to find it interressting as its the only thing to do..
So i mean that WAR is gonna be awesome, and maybe the UI is kinda alike, but u wonder how many that use the same UI?? i can tell u allready, MANY games use the same UI, just other colors.. nothing wrong with that. And so far as i know then WAR is getting older crowd, instead of over 50% of the players are little lamers who just think they are the Master of the game... WoW is ruined for all the little children, and then the gameplay is not nothing u can play 1 year while bein level 60..
but i truly hope that mythic learned what was good and what was bad from DAoC, daoc is the best MMORPG i have ever played. played 3½ year.. So i am looking really forward to this game
Didn't Games Workshop try to sue Blizztard because of some of the characters and stuff in WoW? I can't remember where i heard that... damn crappy memory. ;P

Id like to point out Warcraft came out in 1994 i think
Warhammer came out in 1983.
Warhammer 40k came out same sort of time as warhammer.
Blizzard based warcraft on warhammer. Blizzard based starcraft on warhammer 40k.
Zerg = almost identicle to the Tyranids in Warhammer 40k
Terran alliance =almost identicle to the space marines/imperial guard in warhammer 40k
Protoss = almost identicle to Eldar in warhammer 40k.
Point is it seems Blizzard are BIG fans of games workshop it seems as they seem to amke a ot of games based on games workshop material.
