Guidl Wars is a FPS/Third person viewing slugfest RPG?

Really the game has a story surely but due to it's 'real' melee content it stops being a FPS when? you can go into FPS anytime you want and actually 'shoot' arrows if you are a ranger or 'shoot' spells at another player. just because it auto aims for you shouldn't declassify it as a FPS.

One could look at it as a FPS with rpg fantasy feel to it. (Even doom had certain rpg elements to it tho only slightly.. it had a story and you can change out gear but only guns.)

Is anything gained by such a classification?  Not really.  The play style in Guild Wars will be most familiar with RPG players, but it's unique and doesn't easily fall into any category.

FP stands for first person. the game is entirely played in third person, so that already blows the arguement away. also, in a FPS you have to aim. it doesn't have that in GW.

GW is a CORPG=Competetive Online Roleplaying Game. It is ridiculous to try to classify it as a FPS, since when is hitting something with a sword or axe while in third person view FPS? Stupid idea...

At risk of derailing the topic horribly, I'd like to point out that there was another FPRPG on the N64 called Hexen. That game sucked so badly, that I don't want GW to have the same classification just because I don't want GW to suck by proxy, nor do I wish to make Hexen better by proxy.

yes , you can see in first person view mode in guildwars , but the game as nothing to do with First person shoters games , FPS is point and shot

in guildwars you can TAB , C , V , or clic with mouse to target and then you have 1 to 8 keys or mouse clic on skill to cast.

in FPS you may have 10 or 20 kinds of weapons to chose , couting veicles

in guilwars you have 750 skills , and you need to chose a combination of 8
that 8 skills combo is your weapon

so guildwars as nothing to do with first person shoters

its a fast action game , but ridge racer is also fast action game and you dont compare with first person shoters

    I dont realy like FPS's

A barley use the Keybopar in GW i just click on the thngs i want 9 (i only use the keyboard to chat an target enemeis

Whenever i step outside, somebody claims to see the light
It seems to me that all of us have lost our patience.
    'cause everyone thinks they're right,
And nobody thinks that there just might
Be more than one road to our final destination--

GW isnt an FPS for sure, in a FPS game, you can shoot where you want, which isnt the case in GW.
    It as simple as that...

Just so you know if you ever get into high level PvP you are going to have a hard time if you are trying to click instead of using your keyboard. I started of clicking everything and eventually was forced to use the keyboard for faster reaction time. I'm not saying you have to do this but I highly recommend it as you are probably going to struggle if you go into HA or GvG. Please don't take offence to this, simply consider it helpful advice.

Monks, particularly, and Mesmers as well, will generally need to use the keyboard to fire off skills.

Other than that, the other profs can probably do just as well doing everything with the mouse.

(I find when I used to do a lot of monking I would use the mouse to select the team members and my left hand on buttons 1 to 5 to use my "spammable" healing spells...ooh bad monking flashbacks...I received many compliments...but I hated it. However you play, you nearly always have to use the mouse for something, even if it's just selecting an appropriate target enemy...like quickly zeroing in on that pesky monk at the back)

i remember the days when i use to dobble clic with the mouse on enemy to call target , now i use TAB to select him then hold CTRL and hit SPACE ... so much faster and clean

in PVE most of the times i use C to target the near enemy , then CTRL and SKILL or SPACE to call target

to folow a called target press T

calling targets and folowing targets is what makes team work powerfull , sometimes calling a target is just to show that you cast a especific SKILL and not for others to folow.

i still use mouse to cast skills , but i know casting with the numbers can be faster , but i never got use to it.

i think becose i played FPS for so long , i dont take my fingers out of AWDS keys , always moving and holding down right clic mouse to move the camara.

I've gotten used to using the wasd keys to move and switching to the arrow keys when im in combat for faster reflexes with skills. Currently working on a migraine mesmer which is almost completely interrupts so I have to have fast fingers to pick off those pesky monks. Like neo I use tab to filter through targets, c for close targets (usually when playing war), and ctrl+space or ctrl+skill to call a target. I also have a bad mouse so that might be part of the reason I got used to that format...

You can play it in first person and if you so choose you can avoid the auto target so that also makes both points you tried to make mute. Almost no one will do this but it CAN be played this way.

Doom and other FPS allows knives and fists so your point is mute. Just because melee is the most effective way to battle does not deter the fact it could be seen as a FPS type of game. Firing off arrows instead of shells makes little difference. The guy stating does it really matter? Had more of a stance than this.

It's obvious that this game is not by most standards a FPS game. Maybe I should have started by saying this is just a phylosophical question more than a means to an end or to start arguments.

It's a game. An online game. Does it have to have a classification?

Personally I call it a JTP-rpg game. Which stands for "Jump in-to play".

Since it's a fast and engageing game. You play it just as you would play StarCraft or Counter Strike. This is the RPG version of this type of gaming.
