Fallout Disappointment.

maxantomaxanto Member Posts: 778
Now I am hoping all of you realize the wonderful people who brought us fallout are no more. No I don't mean they are dead (though RIP if they are) but I do mean the studio that brought us those games is no longer up and running.

Bla old news? Well I always see a comparrison from this game (which looks beautiful) to fallout. I was a HUGE fallout fan. I really do not think this game and that will compare at all. Yes they are both post-apoc but thats where the only simularity ends.

Why do I say that? Well for 12's of reasons Fallout was never a multiplayer game (Mind you I did not say fallout tactics) It is solely single player. Fallout also has several random encounters, the crashed star trek shuttle with all the dead red-shirts, the bridge of death (monty python and the holy grail) as well as 12's more. I doubt you will see any thing like that in this game.

Just remember when this game does come out, take it for wot it is. A well thought out hybred of an MMORPG and a FPS in a post-apoc world...

FYI...moments after completion of ES: Oblivion, Bethesda started working on Fallout 3. Its in the works right now with one of the best game development studios behind the helm. I am positively drooling.

Stop lying. Its not funny. I miss fallout so much! I am gonna look into this though, if you are right you are my new hero. If you are wrong I will kill you by slowly pulling off all your fingernails and toenails. That or tell a deathclaw that you raped his mother... lol

Looks like its time to sick a deathclaw on you. I just went to their site: http://www.bethsoft.com/games/games_indevelopment.html and not a single mention of anything having to do with a new fallout release... do you have any proof?
  • PerformerPerformer Member UncommonPosts: 3

Real "proof" is hard to come by I'd say, but you might take a look at this Press Release or check the links here. Those news are all pretty old though... Not that official, but probably better "proof" is this I guess, since it's only three weeks old.

I hope that's enough to save that poor soul from a horrible demise.

(If you didn't notice, I'm new to Post here - I've been watching this Forum for a long time though... so: Hello all !)

Sure, but those individuals are still making games.  Some of them made VTM:Bloodlines, and one was a lead designer of both SW:KOTORs.  Playing those games, you can see some similarities in style.  Not so much in Bloodlines, but I thought KOTOR had an underlying touch that seemed like a familiar aspect of what made Fallout so good.

As for Bethesda making Fallout3, who cares.  IMHO, Daggerfall was a masterpiece, Morrowind was good, but Oblivion was terrible.  I'd hate to see Fallout3 go the way of Oblivion.  It's the individual devs that matter,  not necessarily even the developing house, and certainly not the franchise.

Now if only Icarus could hire Feargus :)

    When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

Its still very fresh news but at E3 in the bethesda booth there was a Fallout 3 poster that said "Prepare for the Future...."

I think the August or July PC Gamer mentioned it also. If I find any links I'll post them.

*nods* One of the big news of E3 was that Bethesda is working on it, but refused to show even a hint of what it would look like. Very secretive, but very much real.

"This is not a game to be tossed aside lightly.
It should be thrown with great force"

  • darkasterdarkaster Member Posts: 187
Yeah, i tried talking the guy at the booth into giving me one of the posters... They were so damn cool.

I wouldn't call a poster with Pipboy that says Fallout 3 much news about it. Bethesda has had the rights for years. Supposedly they just recently started working on it. I don't like Bethesda, they make "great" RPGs that are crap but are hyped to shit. I played about a half hour of Oblivion, and it felt like I was playing WoW. They will turn Fallout 3 into Elder Scrolls: Post-Apocalypse.

Oh, BTW, according to at least one E3 Blogger (Penny I think, can't remeber), they have openly been hear to say "Fallout lends itself perfectly to the MMO Genre". I just remebered that quote, because the next line compared it to this game, and I looked it up immeadiatly... Regardless, I'll play it.

Maybe the future of MMO's is bright... RIP SWG, GFY SOE

I'll start my own SWG... with Black Jack... and Hookers!!!

    In fact, forget the SWG!!!!

OMFG that would be sick! I would love to play Fallout as an MMO. If that ever makes it to the light of day I'm going to be taking a serious amount of vacation time.

I think you are a little harsh. But I do think that they won't produce the same game that we all fell in love with.

    Bridge of Death FTW!

I do hope you are wrong though!

As Fallout is one legend of a RPG Bethesda can only fail utterly due to the huge expectations.
As well sequels are quite rarely as good as the original.

Still I think they can make an enjoyable game.

One good thing that hasn't been mentioned: Bethesida has the rights to Fallout 3,4, and 5, but not beyond that. Nor do they have the rights to the Fallout MMO (specifically stated by Interplay). My friend wants to wait until Fallout 3 comes out, and if its crap, he wants to work with the Fallout community buy the rights to Fallout 6 and the Fallout MMO so that when Bethesda brings out Fallout 4, they'll be bringing out Fallout 6 and a Fallout MMO.

Yeah I will trust Bethesda to make a Good Fallout 3, when its installed on my hard drive and I have started to play.

I know its going to suck, Morrowwind was a FPS wannabe RPG with crap story, crap dialogue, crap quests and generally crap everything.

Oblivion is apparantly worse, dammed if I am going to play it.

They will make it for Xbox 360 converion and we'll end up with F:BOS 2. A Lump of worthless console shit.

    Turn Based Combat.
    S.P.E.C.I.A.L
    Writing better than most TV/Films.
    Better Comedy than most TV/Films.

    Thats Fallout.

    A Fallout MMORPG would suck.

Goddam Interplay pissed on Van Buren and sold the rights to the Gaming equivelent of Terry Goodkind.

So does your friend have $20 million dollars in his pocket as start-up capital, or is he hoping the "community" will come through with that part for him?

Seriously though, I too was hoping that FE would be closer to Fallout than Mad Max, but I'm still pleased as punch to see that somebody out there is still persuing some different ideas for an MMO.

To me, though, Fallout was all about adventure:  crawling out of a hole in the ground into a world warped beyond recognition.  In an MMO, people would be screaming about doing a "red shirt raid" two days after the game comes out, while you're still trying to find a better spear to hunt rats with.

ok, I've played MMOs for years now, and I've never heard the term "red shirt raid" though I think I understand the reference.
