WoW, CoH, or Something Else...

HyomotoHyomoto Member Posts: 24

I've gone without playing any MMORPGs for about a year. Now this summer I realize that there are patches of time that I want to devote to an MMORPG. I currently own the games for WoW and CoH, and played both for about 2-3 month (I stopped playing each due to complications with my grades and due to those complications a lack of funds to pay for the monthly fee.
Now obviously with a fresh start into MMOs, I'm trying to figure out which I should play. I can easily install WoW or CoH instantly and start up so at first I'm figuring which of the two games I should play. I keep hearing that WoW is the best and a revolution to the MMORPG, but to be honest I'm a little sick of the fantasy/elves/magic and swords stuff. And while I find CoH more refreshing, I keep hearing it's really not that good, and I wasn't fond of the fact that there wasn't any equipment to collect and a lack of customizing a character after the very begining of the game, as well as the fact that right before I left the game I started to feel the slight twinge of repitition. However I felt the same this with WoW.
Also I was always kind of a solo player and I was never really patient about forming a party, so I figure that changed my playing experiance.
Also, if there are any other MMORPGs that are great and a good alternative to the popular WoW than please suggest them since I'll find a way to pick a copy up. I'm a little interested in MxO since I love the Matrix, yet I really hear it was bad.

Once upon a time there was an ugly barnical. He was so ugly everyone died... THE END!!!

I would suggest trying to find free trials of either game to see if you still like them.

I, personally, dislike WoW. Not just for the bland gameplay, but I dislike Blizzard on a deep and personal lvl. I also enjoy CoH alot. That is the game I am currently playing and loving. Held my attention for much longer then WoW ever did.

However, since you already have the game for both, you could just pay the $15 bucks for 1 month on each and at the end decide which one you would want to continue with.

Had you played City of Villains?

If not, I say give that a whirl... if you're sick of elves and magic I don't think you'll be happy jumping back into WoW. But CoV is a fresh take on the CoH engine, and I think the character classes (archetypes) are of a superior design (more versatile, and easy to solo without sacrificing group-play), and the missions are a bit more varied and exciting.

Granted CoV has some of the same flaws of CoH that you mentioned, but it might have enough to keep you entertained for a few months.

Yeah! I would also suggest try the trial first so that you can see how the game goes and if in case you are interested on it then that is the time that you have to invest money. lol

By the way, when you're decided you can check gamersloot.net me and my friend normally get our cd keys/gametime cards there. =)

Having played both games I can see the issues you are having. If you like to have a game that makes you PVP for the best stuff, deal with gold farmers, and a very quick run to 60... Sure go for WOW. It is nice the first or second time around but after that I find very little to keep me in the game.

COH does not have a crafting system (True) but I like that you do not have to fight to get a shot at a mob to farm it for one item. Both have a similar combat style (More or less that is) Click and attack. COH has a number of moves and cool looking powers ... but then WOW has the cool looking elven ladies too.

Yes they both have a grind, one is to 60 (So far) and one to 50. But I have found that if you take your time and forget about the high levels and just play and get into the missions and story arcs it is not all that bad of a grind in COH ( I still say that WOW was more a hard grind (Short) but harder)

I guess one true selling point to COH is this ..... Flying through concrate jungle of Steel canyon .... That is fun all on its own ... but that is my 2 inf

P.S. Remember have fun in the game you choose, it is after all ment to be fun.
