in Lord of the Rings Online

Is this game free? Can u guys tell me pls im not a very good searcher on finding out whether the games are free or not or whether when they are going to be released.Pls help me and tell me when it opens beta/or whether it is free or not.  =]

    LOL!!I must be blind...IT says free there above middle-earth and sign up for beta....I just need to know when it opens bata  =) Thanks!!!

    Its not free.  Their will be a price to buy the game (or perhaps just the initial "special edition") and there will be a monthly fee.

    No, this one will not be free, just like most mmorpg's.

    Ummm... of course beta's free. You're doing work for Turbine (at least, you're supposed to).
    But the game is definetly NOT free. This is the approx. cost for the game:
    Purchase: $50
    Monthly fee: $15

    I wish that this game was free. I also wish cars were free. And food was free.
    But it isn't.

    I believe that they are not selling prepaid cards at releace. But that may change.

    There has been no mention at all of a $50 startup charge like wow.  I'm not saying it is not possible but Trubine has not said it will happen at all yet.  The cost for the game is supposed to be close to the mainstream for pay MMO's currently (which would mean around$15 a month) but again. no word as to an exact price has been set yet. Stop on by the forums if you're even half way interested in the game and read the stickies.  You'll be amazed about what we know from a game that's just started alpha yesterday.

    ooops, i should of said, beta is free i believe, and the actual game, when it comes out will not be free.

    I don't either but I went down to a local store to get a prepaid. Or you can always use a game card you purchase at any game store.

    The quality of the game would seriously suffer if the game was free. They would not be able to pump out content at the same rate, they would not be able to host decent servers, they would not have customer support. The monthly fee doesn't go straight to Turbine's pocketessss; MMOs take labour and money to develop and run. An MMO of quality will not be free, ever.

    Basics that we think will be true:

    Price tag for the game itself: around $50
    Monthly cost: around $15
    Most likely charged by: credit card

    Cost of beta: free, but you are expected to spend quite a bit of time in-game to help find bugs and such
    Approx. time of beta release: unknown - probably sometime in early fall

    If you win a beta key, then sometime during the beta testing phase of the game you will get to enter that code and download the client and test the game which does allow you to play at no charge during that period.  Once the game goes live you will no longer be able to play the game until you purchase the game and sign up for a monthly fee. Details of that are still pending as to the exact costs and mechanisms, such as game cards, which may or not be available at release.

    However long beta lasts. Beta isn't just a free game. You're there to help him with troubleshooting the bugs in the game before it's released.
