Imho, in the beginning the only thing this game had going for it; unique if one would call it that. One could craft faster ingame than most games on the market which made it unique because finally crafting was enjoyable.
Since then, mythic has found ways to totally slow it down (time and money sinks)
The crafting system has taken so many nerf bat hits to the point after a certain skill level (think it's 450 nowdays) one can literally get up, make a cup of coffee, come back and the item might have been made. At 650, one can take a shower, get dinner started, then return and the item might be made. At 750 and above, clean the house, check button every so often.
Point is, DAoC crafting system imho very much totally suxxors and will not by any means keep a person awake nor is it interesting in any form. Like I said, the only thing it had going for it in the beginning was how fast one could make each item ingame than most games on the market at that time.
Imho, my time is better spent, finding drop items.
DAOC has crafting. It is outdated and there are many problems with it. Here is crafting for you.
1. Buy material 2. Stand still 3. Click icon 4. Watch green bar 5. Get product or fail 6. Repeat steps 1-5 for litterally days of your life to get to a high enough skill to get useful and sellable products.
The good news is that crafting is supposed to be totally redesigned and released this fall.
As Julian said above that is pretty much how it pans out. An UBER clickfest.
As someone with 4 Legendary Crafters under his belt I can honestly say that it can be fun and rewarding, but nowhere near as exciting as other parts of the game. Also, having wireless access at College and a laptop that can run DAoC doesn't hurt. :-)
Crafting is getting a huge revamp soon and it'll most likely will lower the times it takes to craft certian items. As it goes right now it's an exponential curve with the very first items taking less than a second to craft and the last items somewhere around 100 seconds (1 minute 40 seconds) per item. I was able to stomach all of it due to a humungous drive to hav everything in the game at my personal disposal, and a great guild that I could tlak to most nights as I crafted.

It has crafting, but be warned, energy drinks will not be provided by Mythic.
hmmm...daoc crafting has a lot to be desired.

But this may have left me a bit insane;
