Are any MMO's worth it now? Many people have quit playing entirely until they get accepted into a beta or a new anticipated game comes out. I have played quite a few MMO's and Everquest was teh best of them. The only problem with this is that in the present moment i have nothing to do.
I could always subscribe to Dark Age of Camelot or Anarchy Online but whats the point. Any way you look at it i prolly will be dissapointed as all of th new games which are soon to come out look to good to be true. I will hold any game I play up to their standards which is wrong and unfair.
So now that you see my dilemma i am open for suggestions....
Does anyone else feel the way I do about this???

I think the answer is just slightly objective,,,
Yeh you'r right mate none worth playing theres a few that are ok.. like FFXI AC DOAC UO still but they really ain't going no where n u wanna have permanent achievments in MMORPG's i think i never start playing a game unless its newly been released or i played the beta, so im up with everyone else on knowledge of the game + all these MMO's stink at the moment
im doing as you said, beta testing Ryzom Freeworld Wish few others.. Ryzom looks the best my advice is, Wait for the real stuff City of Heros EQ 2 Wow Guild Wars and so on
I'm killing time in Horizons until something on my list is released, it's really not that bad, specially if you like crafting. It has its flaws, but show me a game which didn't at release...

L2 is currently in limited CB and they're still open for applications to CB, which most should have a good chance to get in over the next couple weeks. Soon after(1 month?) the Open Beta will begin and there's talk that since the Korean and Taiwan Open Beta's allowed everyone to keep their character and level from Open Beta through release, that they'll allow the North American version the same.
My advice, is sign up for L2 Beta and play for free for a couple months, and if you still like it then buy it at release. It sounds like a very good and stabile MMORPG which offers an interesting PVP system. You'd be starting an MMORPG with everyone else and can learn/level with them, so you won't be starting as a newb in a current MMORPG when everyone else is level 100...

FF XI and Eve Online. Both offer something no other games on the market do.
Eve: Totally different form any MMORPG in ANY way.
FF XI: There's a Storyline to follow.
Well if you feel DAoC will dissapoint you best just keep waiting because DAoC blows the newer ones like FFXI,horizons and SWG away and all the other mmorpgs new or old with exception of maybe EQ.
The approach FFXI is making with its "storyline" just doesn't work in a massively multiplayer game. No one can truly feel like they are a part of a world that has a million players, none of which can make a bearing or mark on Vana'diel's history.
Its just a clever disguise for 'depth'.
Fung Wan Online is a must have. I played it and I like it a lot. The only problem with it is the lag, but I know when it goes p2p, the servers will be up and running perfectly. Did I mention this game has a war system? PvP is only in CERTAIN areas. And if you kill someone, you can get a PK point. These are so hard to get rid of... you have to pay 2 Hero Points (which are earned during war for killing people on your level or over your level... *not lower levels*) and you have to pay 10,000 gold. The only way you can PK someone is if they attacked you first...or they steal something from you(you CAN attack someone and not get a PK point...just do NOT kill them), which in return activates a red Skull with crossbones over their head. Simply put, if you kill someone with a skull, you get no PK points. If you are at war with someone... you may kill only the clan members from the group you are at war with, even if they do NOT have a skull, in fact, you are eligible to obtain a Hero Point(which can be used to obtain Legendary Equipment AND Legendary Powers).
So has this enticed anyone to get the beta? If so, go to http://fwo.edenii.com/, and try this game for yourself!!
Played these MMORPG's:
AC1/AC2/AO/DAoC/EQ/ATITD/FFXI/UO
Beta'd: RYL/SWG/E&B
I'm in the exact same dillemma! I want to re-subscribe to EQ, but i figure whats the point, EQ2 will be out soon. I'm sorta playin a Free UO shard, although it got kinda boring =P I recently won the Knight Online beta, so lucky me i get to play a new game before its released I'll probably buy UXO just because it looks really good, but EQ2 is gunna be the game i'm gunna stick to for years.
Horizons was cool for a bit, but got boring real fast =S All the armor is the same, just different colour. The graphics are pretty low-budget for a late 2003 release. SWG was released way before Horizons, and its graphics are sweet. I would still be playing SWG if it werent for the CH Nerf =( FFXI was the worst game i've ever played. Never been more frustrated at a White Mage And EVE online was a let down for me. To be honest, im sure its not a bad game at all, i just couldnt stand the type of MMO they were trying to display! Anywayy, just try for beta's until EQ2 comes out is my suggestion =D I got into KO, soo my dilemma has been solved. Good luck to you in your search my friend!

As much as waiting sucks, I think most of the MMORPG-changing titles are coming out this year. I will have to agree with the people that say City Of Heroes is gonna be that game. No PvP at first... itll be a breath of fresh air with all the possibilities.
I think DAoC is the best fantasy-based mmorpg out there right now. Id like to get back into that, but I also am afraid to start a subscription with all these cool games around the corner. SWG....on the other hand...I will never get back into that :P
I think I might preoccupy the time with first person shooters/whatever is fun. Ill play them and watch the progress of the mmorpgs coming out and then decide. The only thing flawed about that plan is being in a mmorpg at the start is always the funnest time in my book.
I have been playing in some betas, but my general answer is going to be that if I were going to pay for a game right now, I'd go back to EQ to wait it out. There's still plenty to do there, with more coming down the pike. If I were going to play again, I would probably pick up LDoN (which I skipped before) and the soon-to-be-released Gates of Discord, so there would be plenty of stuff that would be new for me to get into. I haven't played at all in a couple of months, so I will have to see where my friends are and what they are doing these days. (And I would probably pick up one of my twinks as my new main, in an attempt to side-step burnout...)
I am looking forward to what comes out in the next round of games. I see a lot of titles from established companies that are advertising a lot of cool features. Until then, I will keep reporting bugs in the games I am playing, and find other ways to kill my time, should I actually HAVE any free time. And then there's always EQ if things open up for me.
No matter where I go, I always end up in Norrath.

Right now I am pretty sure that the top price of an online game is $15 per month (Correct me if I'm wrong about this). I doubt that Blizzard or SOE will go higher than that price. My guess is that SOE goes with $15 since that is what they did for SWG. I have no clue what Blizzard will do but I doubt they will want to push the limits on these already controversial subscription fees.
::Yordo::
EQ2, UXO, Lineage 2, KO, Guild Wars, City of Heroes
I can only give you my subjective answer but the games worth being played are: (IMO) Eve Online, AO, E&B (for a few months it's fun), Neocron, FF XI
Currently waiting for: Ryzom, Lineage 2, WoW
Horizons started off pretty dodgy but has been improving over the last few weeks.
It seems AE are listening to its subscribers (weird huh?).
Game is coming on nicely, I have gone from "its okay" to "I must play ever night", so they must be doing something right.
The storyline stuff is fantastic, stuff happens every 2 days ish and the community projects keeps everyone busy when not hunting.
im just waiting for Guild Wars, once you buy the game you dont have to worry about a monthly fee. just like it should be! talk about worth it! there revolutionizing MMORPGs as we know it, patches stream in as you play the game, no waiting! no zoning! and no monthly fee, talk about worth it, hopefully this will start a trend....
