This game is too buggy to be considered playable

FignarFignar Member CommonPosts: 417

I purchased the game yesterday at some late hour of the night and left it patching while I went to sleep thinking I could play when I got home from work. I came home and started up t he patcher it asked me for the login details too about 30 secs and said couldn't connect to the servers, tried again.....and again... and again....

8 hours later.......I finally manager to login, getting excited even though I was mentally drained from trying 100 different things  but ultimately coming to the conclusion that their login servers cannot cope, I wanted to explore this new MMO. I Began rolling a smoke as I was severly nicotine deprived.... I  saw the game for the first time.....and 20 seconds later 5 legionary_a 3XXX NPC's who don't have proper names yet came and instantly attacked and incapacitated me. Now since I could see other players around I thought hey I could maybe ask them if this is a bug, alas due to the rather stupid system imo which is far to strict and severly needs tweeking my Player character "did not have the energy" to even speak. I waited and waited and waited and finally My npc had the energy to get up and low and behold legionary_a 3XXXX comes and bitch slaps me with his sword this time wounding my elbow.

At this point I was pissed so I went for my smoke.....I came back more relaxed and began just panning the camera around while I was incapped with legionary_a 3XXX's buddies ready to lay the smack down on me again. I saw that the graphics are really basic (may offend people but it has to be said) the NPC animation was quite poor and not eligant even though all they were doing was running on the spot. For some reason I couldn't even see any animations of t hem hitting me....may be they move so fast I couldn't see it ....

Ultimately after being incapped 5 more times I came to the conclusion this game is just too buggy and I wouldn't really class this game ready for a beta at this moment in time let alone a release. For this game to be considered for beta standard the core fundamentals should work with out a hitch, that means the basics such as logging in with out a problem, patching the game with out the patcher crashing every now and again. New players not being instantly incapped by their own sides NPC's and then subsequently corpse camped if you will and griefed by those NPC's. After reading the forums there are a hell of alot of bugs most people have experienced my problems and some others which due to my inability to even start the game I couldn't experience myself.

So in other words stay well away from this game if you think you can log in and play and live with the bugs, being realistic its about 3/4 months away from being adequately playable. I'm not one to bash new MMO's because I know there are always bugs and problems which take time to fix but I have to say I've never experienced anything like this before...certainly is unique.

A true shame as I would have loved to play a realistic roman style game. A true shame.

Oh i'm not saying don't play it, all i'm staying is don't pay for it now wait for about 4 months until its actually "beta release worthy",  then have a crack because on paper its still a pretty damn good game and if it carrys over into the main game it could be a classic eventually.

Yes, that NPC AI bug is a serious bug that started... yesterday, I assume? I do understand it may be (and is) a game-breaker. There really isn't much I can tell you other than to return in a couple of weeks and/or when that said bug is fixed. We will surely warn you here once it is.

Stop being such a retard, Jorev; have you even played the game? Besides, I fail to see how a fixable NPC AI bug can be compared to the real money scam that was Mourning, or to the hype feast that was DnL.

Ordie, Jorev doesn't have time to actuallly play games.  He's too busy critiquing them all, that he never gets a chance to actually try them rather than skim through every single post until he finds a negative one.

Hey Jorev, here's a negative, suck my .

Spoke like a true fanboi. You really have no idea that you are no more important to anyone here than yesterdays food coming out the bad end to the porcelin king eh? And to make matters worse yesterdays food was more entertaining and smarter than someone who doesn't understand their worth. Namely you.

im a fanboy through love of the game ive played it for well over a year or two (was in beta for a long time) the games good you just need to Learn to playand realize the devs are doing the best they can as fast as they can.

I don't even play it namely because a friend of mine had some serious issues with this game. It doesn't suprise me that he had issues with it considering that it was released oh a year too early or so. That's not something you can defend really, it's just a fact.

i played this game all the way through beta and release and its only starting to have all the "unplayable" problems now due to tracking/player collision. once thats fixed though, it shall be playable again. But yeah the servers need some fixing up to cope with current playerbase. They've never intended it to attract thousands of people in the begnning, they want to add more people Slowly as they go along. Patience.... some of you have bought the game so dont throw it away completely, come back in a few months. but for those of you who dont want to be left behind i suggest you train up basic skills(spear/runnning/foraging etc) at least...

That is indeed the most stupid 'feature' this game has. I opened a topic about it once but i got almost killed there by dev's and fanboys saying it was realism!

Think about it.. you walk with 9 others to the river (will take about 5-10minutes). In the meantime you wanna chat with the others, not possible 'coz there is no auto-run. Ok, you accept to be silent while walking so you chat while resting. But thats almost impossible too 'coz you lose vigour (stamina/ energy) when you chat. Which means if you chat pretty quick you'll lose as much energy as you're getting back.

if you like to hardcore/grind craft this game can be fun.. otherwise it will be a very frustrating experience.

    (There is an autorun)

And it IS realism, can you talk after you've just ran out of breath running???

    (the answer is no)

talking about realism. i don't run out of breath after 2km run... not even when drunk!

walking right trough other players and enemies.. is that realism?
work 50minutes on making a clay pile while you're next to a clay pit... is that realism?
wait 30 seconds to add a simple stick to a firewood pile? ...is that realism?
slap other players in the back on their head and they never get hit 'coz of 99dodge? is that realism?
eat 2 apples a day? is that realism?
wasting a complete spear on 10 fishing attempts? what has that barb been doing his whole life?
wasting a complete saw on 4 attempts? ...w00t?
    walk right trough water? realism?
not able to lie down? realism?
    etc. etc.

  • OrdieOrdie Member Posts: 86

The NPCs attacking on sight are a bug, they are not "realism". The devs are working on fixing it. It is not fixed yet; it will be soon.

    There is auto-run.

walking right trough other players and enemies.. is that realism?
There is collision detection. Are you sure you played the game?

work 50minutes on making a clay pile while you're next to a clay pit... is that realism?
    Yes, it is.
I think the question you're trying to ask is: "Is it fun?" No, it's not.

wait 30 seconds to add a simple stick to a firewood pile? ...is that realism?
It's not a simple stick. In theory, it's a group of rough firewood logs. Not "a stick".
Again, I think the question you're trying to ask is: "Is it fun?" No, it's not.

slap other players in the back on their head and they never get hit 'coz of 99dodge? is that realism?
Huh. Yes, it is. If you suck at hitting and the other person is excellent at doding attacks... lol.

eat 2 apples a day? is that realism?
Realism-Gameplay compromise. Back in the test, we usually had to eat (and drink) something every 1-2 hours. The dev team changed that.

wasting a complete spear on 10 fishing attempts? what has that barb been doing his whole life?
Apparently, not learning fishing, since you start out with 0 fishing skill :P

wasting a complete saw on 4 attempts? ...w00t?
I assume you're talking about the saw the elder gives you. it's a really crappy saw. Very bad quality. Besides, if you dont repair it (which you didnt), its lifespan will decrease by a Huge ammount.

    walk right trough water? realism?
No. I am impatiently awaiting the implementation of the already-announced swimming skill.

not able to lie down? realism?
No, it's not. But I don't really know why you'd want to lie down for.

    etc. etc.
    etc. etc.

Theres is realism and then there is overkill, and so far this game has overkilled it by trying to be too realistic, basics such as talking using up your energy is stretching it too far, after all MMO's are supposed to be a social genre of gaming and if you can't talk because you used your energy up  by running from x to y and then have to wait 10 mins to regain it, that IMO is overkill.

Realism is good but if you start to become too realistic it starts to become annoying and not engaging, this game is far from perfect and I do think it will get some of the realism dumbed down so that normal tasks we take for granted such as talking don't use up energy. By that i'm saying that little things which don't affect game play i.e talking, walking should be eased a bit  but leave say everything else as is or tweak as they see fit. I love deep crafting games and so  far i've read up on so many  games and tried so many out and since SWG nothings really taken my interest except this game so  I really do hope things get sorted out.

I think the problem with the water is that they don't want people escaping combat situations by just jumping into the river and swimming off because you obviously can't fight while your swimming.

Then they shouldn't have advertised it, should they have? They should have quietly made the game, got investors, have friends and family, schoolmates, whatever to test the playability until they knew it would hold thousands ( since I believe the primary goal on the business side is to have as many customers as possible ready to play the game when it comes out), otherwise they should have stuck to singleplayer with multiplayer support.

zorvan this is off topic but i downloaded windows beta 2  about a week before the deadline (not had time to install until now) however when it comes to selecting a partion to install on (my pc only has the one hard disk which is NTFS formatted and blank) it refuses saying it can't find a suitable drive. Is there anyway around this.

Yes it's new players wanting to play a game that has been released that's the issue here. Not that the game cannot handle a normal amount of players attempting to log in and play. That' makes sense...

the AI bug has already been fixed.

I am no fanboy, I just know a good game when I see one. I have been on MMORPG for so long and this is the first game that I am actually going to stand up for. I've tried so many other MMO's..Eve Online(couldn't handle the controls),WoW (felt to dumbed down, to much grind), WW2OL (still needs improvement but has a dedicated dev team also), SWG (shit.), DAoC (again with the controls and starting out as a low level was horrible, billing issues and overall look just didn't fit my style)...the list goes on.

1)The development team is small and dedicated. They fix the shit that goes wrong usually within a day. They've been optimizing the game since the 14th so just give it a bit untill it runs smoothly.

2)The graphics are going to get better, they've already announced that they're going to use the grass/tree program along with adding horses and mounts and additional boards(more land all of Hadrian Wall)

3)The community is AMAZING. One of the more mature out there and for a good reason, and its because they have patience and an understanding that if they support the dev and tell the devs what is really good then the dev will in turn support them and make the game even better.

4)Its a Sandbox and it has so much potential for amazing gameplay(its already started too which is the best part! Barbs raiding Romans/ Romans raiding barbs/ Resource managing with raids etc.)

I could keep listing, I love the features in this game and I'm glad too because its the first MMO that I can actually stand.

Help me find a game that I'll enjoy!!!

How exactly did all these people find out about a game if it wasn't advertised, hmm? How did it end up here?

I have no idea. Stuff such as the crucifixtion was picked up by the media, but most of RV's publicity comes from word of mouth. There is not Even One RV ad.
