I'm new to this game, been there less then a week. But I like this game as it's a role-players paradise.
I have questions to ask.
1. I've heard people mention "Gor". What is Gor?
2. In order to make clothes or certain designs, what is it you need to install aside from your computer?
I believe I saw something like Power Paint and Adobe. What and how are these items used for in the game?
Can't think of anything else atm.
Thanks for any info.

Likely short for Gorean. It seems all rather odd, to me at least. Any rate, just run a web search on it to see for yourself.

Clothes, the nice ones at least are custom textures made outside of SL in image editing apps like Photo Shop. SL allows you to upload image, sound and avatar animation files into it to be used in world. That is part of why you're downloading so much all the time, all the custom stuff people uploaded into it. Image files can be used to make custom clothing, skins, hair, eyes or to apply onto the objects you make in world. The Design and Textures section in the SL forums will be your best starting point with lots of info in the two stickied posts there.
on the off chance you haven't tried the Port Cos or any of the other Gorean sims, Gor is a fantasy world created in the early '70s by author John Norman. Essentially, his hero, Tarl Cabot, is a cross between Burroughs' John Carter and Conan the Barbarian. I believe there are something like 28 novels (I lost interest after about 10). It's sword & sorcery without much sorcery and what there is, is actually advanced alien technology.
There is a lot to be said for the rich Gorean culture Norman created, with its guild system, home stones and strict warriors code. But, as has been mentioned, slavery and sex figure prominantly in the series. There have been many graduate papers written on the subject.
In SL, the Gorean Sims are like any other theme areas, say the Transylvanian Sims or DarkWood. However, where they differ is the vast industry that spawned to accommodate the sex/slavery aspect of it. There must be 100 varieties of "slave collars" available in-world.
It's not for everyone of course but the sims do tend to be in the top 10 most popular sites. Of course this should come as no surprise as sex is probably the biggest drawing card of SL.
