The Beta

I wanted to try out the beta, like any other fan, I go on the web site, and i see:

FOR USA, CANADA AND KOREA!

i'm european and i find it horribly unfair that we don't get to try it out!

If you would have read their FAQ's you would know that later on during the beta Europe will get to beta test WoW. When is still up in the air.

It's not exactly anyone's 'right' to get to beta test this game. Blizzard is making it and they're going to let ppl play it for FREE to stress test the servers, find bugs, and balance things out. It's not like it's a sneak peak that everyone on the globe should get access to.

Mostly it's just being released to Canada/USA because it's cost effective, also since blizzard likes to tap into the Korean market they're running servers there as well. So if they're to release it in Europe, why not let ppl in Kenya, and Brazil play, even though they don't make up as crucial a % of blizzard's sales. You're going to be able to buy the retail version, so that's all that really matters. Just tough it out, wait for the later stages of beta. Just try and remember though, it's a beta TEST not a sneak peak... Most ppl tend to overlook that.

I think that wherever you live you should have the same chances and right to participate in beta.  I do not like the different "phases" of beta testing when they let people from certain countries in earlier than others.  I have never had to really worry about this since I live in the US but I know it must be a major frustration for Europeans and others who live outside the major testing countries.  Besides, don't the Devs want to know how the server stability is in different areas of the world?  After all, they will be selling it to those countries.  Why not let them test it.

I agree with yordo. By doing this they are showing how biased they are towards the rest of the world. And the more i see immature racist kids post on the WoW official forums, the more i'm losing interest in this game. P2p is gonna be like in the forums, where irritating racist/lame/immature people will fill the servers. Sigh. This game is top of my list of mmorpg coming out. The 'is' is gonna become 'was' soon. image

No one seems to realize, it's not just Blizzard that does this. Pretty much every American game company releases their beta to USA/Canda first. Look at European companies or Asian developers of games like Liniage 2 that just now opened it's beta up to the USA. I don't get why everyone is mad at blizzard for doing things how they've always been done. All the beta's I've been in, my European friends couldn't even apply for. Even x-pansions are slow to get to Europe. It's not the game developers fault so much as it is the marketting departments.

They're not going to jump through hoops just so that a few hundred Europeans can get to play the game for free. Like I said earlier, it's not a 'right' to anyone to get to beta test any game. This isn't the lottery, this is testing for a game, so that they can make sure it's up to their standards before they ask ppl to spend money on it. They don't even need to HAVE a beta. They could just release the game in 8 months without a beta, then when ppl start paying $$ for it, worry about fixing all the problems that they could have just found by doing a beta.

Accept that the only reason you're mad about not getting to be in beta, isn't because you're just so darn eager to help stress testing the servers, reporting bugs, and writing long reviews in your weekly bug supports to help Blizzard, it's because you want to play the game so damn bad (hell I eat, sleep, breath, and speak WoW every day ) and you want to see it now, and not have to wait for it to go to retail.

They arn't against anyone, they love every country's $$ the same, they just can't supply it to everyone at the same time. It'd be like arguing to get in the Alpha... You just gotta accept that the Alpha was for programmers and blizz family/friends. Well Beta's are often just for the country the game company is based in, they're broadening, slowely but surely, it's how all their beta's have gone, and how all the other game companies I've seen do thiers.

As far as the common belief that this game is going to be filled with b-net a** holes, pre-teen morons and other immature lamers is just rumors that blizzard has to suffer through because of their popularity from their other titles. Every mmorpg gets immature ppl, but the truth is they rarely reach the higher levels, arn't often noticed when they do, because at the later stages in these games it's just such an obvious difference how noticably better the people you'll be around are. Big example is SB. I HATED the ppl on noob island, but once you leave that place things get a lot better. Also the starting Solar Systems in EVE were HORRIBLE, stupid question after stupid question, arguements left and right. Once you move on though, it's FAR better. I'm realy not in the slightest worried about who's going to be playing this game. I think most of the ppl who are going to play it are MMORPG fans, more so than Blizz/b-net players. It has nothing to do with Diablo, or starcraft, and it's not a RTS like WC was, it's just based in that world. If you don't like a games genre, you won't like the game, regardless of what it's based on.

I do accept that ppl have a right to dislike the game, it's just odd that they all go so far out of their way to state how much they hate the game and everything that's going to be wrong with it (not refering to anyone on these threads). I've been watching a lot of the up and coming mmorpg titles, at first I didn't like WoW simply because I don't like mmorpg's based on any previous story line (part of why I never even bought SWG, even though I love Star Wars). Now though I feel it's one of the best titles that will be released, and obviously better than some really stink a** titles coming out. Yet those other games have very few ppl preaching about the flaws, on forums, reason being. If you try to insult something that no one knows about, who's going to care? So WHY are so many ppl against WoW and not these other titles that I don't think anyone would argue are going to suck.

I've sorta gone off topic here so I'll divert back.

Read the faqs, ignore the threads, read the nurmerous reviews done on the game out there, ignore the forum flamers. The b-net forums are horrible, just horrible, but trust me, the amount of ppl who use those b-net forms will come no where close to even 10% of the games total population when it goes live. I don't even know anyone who uses them, yet everyone I know wants to play WoW.

I doubt I'll get in beta, but aside from a few counceling sessions I think I'll be able to cope with it, I sorta want to see the 'final' version more than I do a work in progress anyways (no matter how good that work in progress is). In the mean time I just keep trying other mmorpgs (with little luck however).

Then why don't they just do the beta like the alpha, give it to blizz staff family and friends? There aren't more morrons in europe than there are in america. There will be less european testers(compared to americains) and probably less morons too, since i guess that less europeans will apply for the beta. Beta is still a way to test the game, and in testing it you can find out if it's worth something! Logicaly, if they give to americains, since more americains will probably play it, there will be more people that dislike it and less buyers. The advantage with closed beta, is that you'd have w8ted so long to get, that you'll like it anyway. I still think that that should either give acess to the beta for everyone, or keep it in the blizzard family and not put in a beta at all.

  • OmolOmol Member Posts: 332

Why is it that the Europeans are the only ones complaining? I mean you dont hear Americans complaining when they cant get into European only betas. Really whats the big fuss? Blizzard already stated that Europeans would get a chance to beta test the game.

I live in Canada and have filled out the form for the Beta but I have this sinking feeling like I won't get "randomly" picked. I suspect that not everyone who wants to Beta test and applies will necessarily get chosen but that's ok. Worst case scenario I can buy the game (assuming reviews are good etc.) and play it then. I am curious though if Blizzard is just trying to limit the number of potential Beta testers or if there's some other reason. In today's world of high speed Internet connections and high powered systems you'd think there wouldn't be too many reasons to limit the Beta test to one region or another necessarily. But in the end it's gotta be up to them and we all have to just live with it.

  • DraciusDracius Member Posts: 379
Well, I give up. Obviusly you'll never understand why companies have beta's, and all the obvious facts as to why they don't let everyone on the planet connect seem to elude you, there's not really much of a point in me trying to. Also as to why they can't just do blizz family-friends, because they NEED more ppl, that's how you test how many users a server can handle.... by putting more ppl on it... After all, it doesn't really matter, blizzard won't let Euro's into beta right off, nor will any other American game company, so we can argue all we like, won't change anything. It is how it is, because it is how it is and that's gonna be how it is until how it is changes so that's what it is, is no longer it, but instead it is something else entirely different from what it was before.

That means that they realised that european players have just as many rights to try their product as americainsimage

That's good news for me, thx!!

  • TaskyZZTaskyZZ Member Posts: 1,476

    LOL.

Nobody has any rights to it.  If you had a right to it, they would HAVE to let YOU in.

They are probably just going to let you guys sign up, but not pick any of you.  Make you think they like Europeans!  (Just kidding with ya).

I don't understand how beta is so important. Japan companies have released games (alot of RPGs) that never made it to American shores. FFXI was in Japan for how long before it was decided to release to America as well. I truly believe that beta is nice to be in but I really do prefer to have the final product. No worries about character wipes or anything then. I did not apply for the beta. I would love the beta but did not apply. I did this for myself because of the complaints. I did it to show myself that I don't need beta to want to buy the game. CoH and WoW are the only 2 games that I actually have planned to buy. I have never planned to buy any MMOs before. Planetside is the only one that I was curious about.

Beta is to test and not to see the game. I hope more ppl realize this and quit throwing out words like bias and such As said by Dracius that most companies do their betas by releasing in the country or region they are located.

It's a fact ....Most WHINERS want to be in the BETA, NOT to TEST the game.

They want in the BETA because they want to master the controls and figure out how to level the fastest so when the official release comes out, they can be the most powerful character on the server. They want to meet other players in BETA and coordinate a guild formation upon release, that consists of people with BETA knowledge, so that the guild will rapidly become the most powerful guild on the server. Lets face it... It's all about greed, power, and selfishness. Ask the average player in any MMORPG if they would like to be the most powerful character, Most powerful guildmaster, or at least be a key member of the most powerful guild... I'm sure 100 out of 100 would say yes to at least ONE of those choices. Who wants to play a game with tons of other players and be a nobody jackass?

With that said, hopefully we can at least understand the mentality of those who are WHINING about being included in the BETA.

No, actually we have tons more here in the US  :)

Well, about the beta thing in Europe, I guess you can blame the people in US for not playing enough blizzard games.  Since they're doing the beta in Asia and US because that's where the people play the most of their other games(sry if the words are bunched up)

Well, everyone knows that beta testing for any Blizzard game isn't easy...  I know they pick certain people, and not just random people...  why do you think it takes so long for them to do anything...  it's because of this they are known for making good games...  They could rush it out and be like SOE...

    Agreed

The last thing I want to see is a potentially good mmorpg become crap in a matter of months

People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.

Beta tests are relativley small and I am sure with U.S., Canada, and Korea all testing they don't really have a need to allow other testers at this time. They have already stated on the official boards that there will be a European beta coming soon. Why don't you guys stop being such cryababies. All I hear on the official forums are Blizzard is racist whhhhaaaaa. Get over yourself. It is a beta test not a free ride.

as i understood, beta testing is going to come out in europe anyway, so good for us!!

and i must say, even they wouldn't come out here, who cares! by definition beta is the uncomplete game and it's better to w8 for the full version to be stunned...let's just hope that blizzard keeps it's promises...

did anyone here actually get to test the beta?? how was it??image
