Hello.

Would you recommend this game to someone who uses text chat only?

Are there major portions of the game that are inaccessable to someone who uses text chat only?

First of all, I...and by I, I mean in fact WE, do not recommend this game. At all.
Second, there are major portions of the world you won't be able to access, but it is not because you only use text chat, it is because only a small part of the world has been implemented. Most kingdoms are closed and you can't go in them.

To make it short: keep your money, the game is not ready.

I don't think it will ever be ready. They have pretty much run out of time. A whole slew of games coming in the near future vs. dated graphics, non functional software, horrid customer service, billing issues and moronic devs. They don't have the time or the know how to fix their game. There are there major portions of the game that are inaccessable, period.

You really dont wanna be talking to the sort of people that still play DnL so you'll be fine.

Voice chat is a great idea, but you'll need to be able to speak French, or at a minimum Canadian.

You ask this question as if there are many games out there that require voice chat to be playable.  In fact, there are none that require voice chat.  Even in Auto Assult, which has a built-in voice chat option for grouping, it is not required at all and only optional.

So, to answer your question.  No, like all the other MMORPG's on the market today, DnL does not require voice chat at all.  That said, I feel dirty putting DnL into the same sentence as all the other MMORPG's, since it actually can't hold a candle to any of the other games on the market right now.

You've asked this exact same question in at least 3 forums, here, Guild Wars and Auto Assault (and very likely several others)....I admit to being baffled as to your agenda.

    Let me guess.  You're a WoW-anti-raid person.

This is one of the biggest whines of the non-raider in WoW.  "Whaaaa, you need voice chat to play!"

To answer your question...ANY task in an MMORPG that requires more than 10 or so people will be made much, much easier with voice chat.  Therefore, any MMORPG with any kind of large scale player interaction will have large portions "inaccessable" to you.

    I hope that helps.

See post above.  He's a non-raiding WoW person.  Note the melodrama...."major portions of the game that are inaccessable".

No it doesn't.  Because I used to be able to do high end zones with groups back when we didn't have voice tech like Vent and TS available on the scale it is today.  Yes, we had more than ten people, and I don't remember anyone having any problem with it.

Are you a soap opera star or something?  Because how you can interpret two simple questions as an outpouring of pathos is beyond me.  If the game culture uses voice as a crutch, that's cool.  I'll just find a game where it ain't the norm.

And yes, there are games where it isn't the norm.

I try to find to find games that don't require voice chat either. I'm now at a point where I purposely will not use voice chat because the gamers that take their gaming way too seriously demand that others playing with them use it too. And I simply cannot take gaming seriously at my age. In fact every day I feel more and more guilty and ashamed that I still play games online with teenagers and kids.

The only exception will be my flight simulator; there's something very cool about being able to talk to your squadmates when flying, so maybe I'll get voice chat for that. Plus, flight simmers are generally older and thus I'll fit in a lot better.

BTW, I first thought you were deaf Beatlnik. I thought maybe you relied on text only :) Since I've never played WoW and never plan to I didn't think this post had anything to do with being anti-voice chat.

So, you can't raid or participate in any high-level content in WoW if you don't use voice chat? That's ridiculous. People really do take those games too serious. I remember that from my EQ days years ago...way too serious...

Yeah, and back when you didn't have voice tech, you had NO CHOICE.  You HAD to do it with text-only chat, because that's all that existed.

    These days, people have options.

And why are you calling me a "soap opera star"?  Based on the fact that you do nothing to dispute it, I was right when I pegged you as a frustrated WoW wanna-be raider.  And it was an "outpouring of pathos" because of the melodramatic way it which you stated it ("voice chat required to access large portions of it").

Now, this isn't the forum for this (go over to the WoW forum and gripe there), but...

Voice chat IS NOT REQUIRED TO RAID.  Certain raiding guilds require it of their members because it makes like 1000% easier.  If the guild that you're raiding with wants you to install software that you don't want to install, THEN FIND ANOTHER GUILD.

Back when I played WoW, I was in a guild that raided, and we didn't have voice chat.  Therefore, WoW is the answer to your question.

Geeze.  All MMORPG players whine to one degree or another, but I swear to God, WoW players are the friggen worst.  They'll whine about ANYTHING.  "Whaaa, one or two guilds told me that I need voice chat to raid with them, so that means you're required to have voice chat to access large chunks of WoW and it's not faaaaaaaaaair!"

EDIT:  Don't ask me why it keeps duplicating part of the quote...I delete it, it keeps coming back....

You don't "need" voice chat to play ANY online game.  However, MOST players find it makes things a whole lot easier.
