spizzspizz Member UncommonPosts: 1,971

iam just curios why in the usa the society is more prude than in european countries ? dont get me wrong, i dont want to tell or discuss what is right or wrong but why is there such a difference ..on the other hand you have mardy grass (spell) and other celebrationts where nudity is not that much covered.

here is an example about a new movie advertising, one is the european version the other is for us:

lol, that's just absurd.  I mean, it's a girl lying down and showing her breasts, I mean, it's just breasts.  And she's peacefully sleeping it seems.  It's hardly sexual, really.  That picture is as harmless as any anatomy book illustration.

I don't quite know how it came to this to tell u the truth, probably the highly-influential religous groups.

Why put so much emphasis on what the media shows you?

Do what you think is right and don't let the media influence you.  Their only motivation is money, and they'll do anything to make it.  Including rot our brains with mindless gratification.

There's nothing wrong with being "prude".  It will keep you out of trouble for sure.

The U.S. one looks like it was rather poorly photoshopped, or something, though that might just be my eyes playing tricks on me, or something. Anyway, I think America's full of "prudes" 'cuz it's full of fools. Never understood that whole "It's ok to see someone get brutally murdered, but if a chick has a wardrobe malfunction, it's obscene." thing.

This goes all the way back to the pilgrims, they were Puritans and you had to be covered from the neck down past the ankles. Fast forward a few hundred years or so and we are just now allowing more sexually explicit things.

Remember European society is much much older than America's so you guys have already gone through this where certain things were taboo.

This brings up another thing I always noticed in video games that are violent like America's Army, sometimes I die and I will be like f*ck, shit, or damn it! and people will be like NO CUSSING! So I sit there and think "What the hell we are killing people in this game but we don't want any curse words this is retarded." Maybe someone can explain that sort of thinking to me?

In America I have bad teeth. If I lived in England my teeth would be perfect.

With the way America is, somebody will somehow manage to find that poster offensive some way. It's like people get up in the morning put on there tie and purposfully go and find something that bothers them and whine and moan about it.

On Time? On Target? Never Quit?

Its simply a matter of culture, funny though. How come you arent slamming lets say China for being prudish, better yet pick a country in the middle east that would openly have that movie poster out. Hmm, man what a bunch of prudish countries.

Hate to tell you this, but in the world right now there are for more cultures who wouldnt display that everywhere as there are that would, which makes you a minority, which in turn begs the question why are Euros so openly sexual?

Is it wrong either way? Nope. Its just how places have developed culturally.

Not if I can help it.

America has a slight double standard going or we'll call it 'inner conflict' considering they produce approx. 75% of the worlds pornography and they invented the wet T-shirt contest, "Girls gone wild" and beauty pajeants. When it comes to porn it goes back to freedom of speech. People feel trapped by social oppression (not being able to choose your president for example :P) so they cling to whateva rights they can grab on to. The right to be offended tends to be the one they max out on and porn is their push button.

u hit the nail on the head.

its not "somebody" that will get offended its those that hold to the ideas of previous generations.

our generation is too lazy to give a fuck about anything that requires them to do anything besides press a button

    Good point.

Americans do have a "double standard". It's called freedom of expression. You are free to express yourself and I'm free to disapprove.

For now, the people who disapprove of nudity being used to sell things are the majority. This may change in the futute. As it is, sexual innuendos and scanitily clad models are used to sell everything. I find it ridiculous when the image of young, fit, beautiful, soaking wet couples dancing is used to sell tires.

Listen Asmodeeus, seven years ago, Ultima Online didn't even have those pathetic "quests" that you refer to or those "professions" of ninja, samurai, necromancer, and paladin. Nor did it have any of the neon crap, or bug mounts. It didn't even have any "combat moves." You turned on attack and jousted with simplistic swings. It was a better game then. if you can't guess why then just uninstall the thing and move along. - Crabby

One thing you guys are probably too young to understand, is that this kinda stuff has an impact on our children, ie our future. I really wouldnt want my kids seeing that poster, its inappopriate. And I wholey disapprove of sex selling everything on TV. 10 years ago when I was a teen and the old hormones were having a circus in my pants, I couldnt even watch ladies tennis before the ole brain kicked into procreation mode, I really cant imagine how todays teenage boys deal with the constant barrage of semi-porn without imploding.

Although I do find it ironic that movies depicting a couple scenes of nudity are almost always rated R, while movies depicting horrible, mind wrenching violence manage a PG-13.

Personally, I try to keep my kids away from both when it comes to TV, and I really dont want companies undermining how Id like to raise my kids because they cant sell their products without a little T&A.

Dont get me wrong, Im no prude, me and the mrs have our little "stash", I mean cmon, who doesnt love porn? BUT there is a time and a place, and more imporantly, an age and maturity one needs to have, which is exactly why theyre called "adult films."

...And you, with your wisdom of the ages, see clearly?

"10 years ago when I was a teen.."

Your user profile says that you're 35. Are you a liar, bad at math, or just high?

In any case, I don't see your age as being a pillar upon which you can look down at the rest of us. Get off your high horse, you're not the only one who can perceive the social implications of using sex as an advertising tool.
