Dude I really did not like the game, it seems empty early and getting a group is time consuming. Soloing is not an option after the early levels. It's a game for hardcore gamers. Personally I think FF should be more casual of a mmorpg.

P.S. And the controls are horrible, but you can always use a gamepad on PC..that helps....a little.

FFXI takes a lot of time, Before you start You'll need to ask yourself if you can put forth at least 3 hours Per gaming Session (Preferable more). The controlls are fine, theres already a thread about them, Some people don't like them, others do, I don't have a problem with Using the Keyboard (I'm on PC btw) Others can't stand it if they don't have a controller (You can get a Gamepad).

FFXI isn't really ment for casual gamers, a lot of people entered with the mindset of "I beat FFX in 40 Hours this game'll be easy" Or somthing like that, Well I"m pushing 150 Days play time (3,600 hours). You can play it casuel, things will just be slower, and you may (Looking at a big may here) not find the game enjoyable at all since you dont' have enough time invesetment to get anywhere.

I think FFXI's $20 now, pick up the game, You get a free month, try it out. If you don't like it cancel your ID's and go on to somthing else, At that price I think its worth a try. But some people are really stingy I guess.

Yeah it's cheap to buy and it's worth trying out if your a FF fan. I only started playing the game today so I can't tell you too much about it other than i'm enjoying my time spent playing. I notched up alot of hours in one session today so I turned FFXI off only to be drawn into another session an hour later. Like the dude above said, it's cheap so try it and if you don't like it just cancel after your free 30 days.

My advice if you haven't played most of SOEs games is buy "the station Access collection." You get 5 games and a free month with each one. I personally love most of the FF games but I just don't think the mmorpg captured any of the magic.

Final Fantasy Has Never Been A Solo Game.
Tell me in any Final Fantasy where you played the game completely Solo.
That's why they made it this way.

As for population wise, they keep making new servers on purpose, population wise for the server it's suppost to average 2000-4000 per server.
Any more than that is just too crowded, if you were to see the popular places to level at times it gets very populated.

The controls are fine..., I don't know what you're talking about...
Whatever you use at first, you will use forever....
I play on Ps2 so I use the controller....I have friends who think the keyboard is better because you have access to everything right there..

FFXI is a game for those who enjoy going through quests, enjoying the company of others, making friends....etc..... It's not for leveling to the max level in one week and then going out and PvP the rest of the game. When you reach level 75, you're not even close to being done. There's so much more you can do at level 75 which makes the game ten times more fun cause of what actually opens up for you.

The game is worth a shot, for those who want to level really fast and solo, go play SWG or WoW.

Fact 1 = It is very hard to get into a group when you start.

Fact 2 = Controls are made for console not for a PC, people who play on PC might and probably will find the controls awkward.

Now FF has always been a game with multiple characters but you alone had control over them, so the solo thing is a point of view.

I personally think you can find a lot better games to do quests, make friends etc... Personally I like it when a game is good enough and user friendly enough where I don't have to think about what I can do for fun. The game is suppose to take care of that. You like talking to people? Go to a chatroom. IMHO FFXI has captured nothing from the console games. It has taken objects from FF and put them into a bland, cumbersome world.

Oh and Playonline is the worst damn program ever, why do I have to put up with that crap just to play a game?

You shouldn't look for a group untill at the least level 10. Also.. level 10-30 (or even level 10-40) is extremely easy to find a group. If you can't find a group within half an hour below level 30.. then your doing something wrong.

I play on the PC and I've never had any problem with the controls. Actually, after helping a friend set up FFXI on her PS2.. I prefer the PC controls. It's easy, left hand on the numpad for character movement and right hand on the mouse for looking around and clicking on menu's. That and the shortcuts for the PC allow you to react ALOT faster than your buddies on the gaming consoles.

After quitting Runescape I can't imagine not enjoying anything you try.

FFXI is not a bad game, it's just not for me. I'm not trying to say this game sucks, I just don't enjoy it. So try if you want.

I'm actually buying this game again after my old reg code didn't work on my computer, but I think its worth a try its pretty fun it is pretty time consuming tho.

i have played FFXI from US PC release, back when it WAS worth playing.

reasons why you should not start a new account now are as followed

1.) the economey is CRAP, gear that cost 10K when i started cost 80K when i quit a year ago.

2.) LV 1-20 cake but some troubles in dunes with nubs , LV 20 - 25, Have fun waiting in jeuno for 5 HOURS just to get in a group that breaks up when a banshee OWNES your noob puller. LV 30 - 75 Have fun waiting in jeuno for 5 hours just to get in a party that gets owned by > insert mobs name here < because of... YES you guessed it .. a noob puller or incompitant WHM.

3.) if you started now , EVERYONE will be so far ahead of you you couldent dream of geting up with them and have fun trying to get gear with the inflated prices because of Bot gil sellers.

all in all, it WAS a great game untill PS2 release but NOW its crap

This couldn't be further from the truth. I am a new player around level 14 and I see new characters running around ALL THE TIME. The items are a bit pricey but collecting and selling stacks of crystals can get you some easy gil anyway so it will not take that long to get out of your newbie threads.

1.) 80k O.O Really? Do you know how hard it is to make 80k, Lets see, lvl 0 Fisherman, with a good.. mmm 5k investment on Rod and Bait, can eailly make 80k in 2 hours. OMGWTFBBQZ THATS111! HARDZ1

2) Bro, 1-20 you ARE a Nub. Well, I just recnetly took PLD 20-25 in a weekend in Qufim, so again STFU. Nah, you're more likely to get a noob RDM to diaga the surrounding mobs which makes them maul everyone. (But sadly enough if you're staring you're prolly that RDM) 1-50 Are easy, finding parties doesn't get difficult untill after that. But during this time you should NEVER sit on your asses in Jeuno waiting for a party, there are other more productive things to do while waitin for a party, or better yet.. OMG STARTING YOUR OWN PARTY!!!!!111

3) Maybe you don't realize this, but botters bring more items into the economy. Which creates deflation on prices. Inflation is a result of low supply of items, and a heafty supply of gil (People with more money then Sense cause inflaiton - Gilbuyers)

And OMG the last part, You know this is a Ps2 Game, And even if you do mean NA PS2 that doesn't effect your complaints about botters (Since when can you Bot on Ps2 o.O)

i have played a lot of mmo's in my life wow, coh, cov, eq, swg, and ff11 as there are so many more its not even funny. if you gonna get this game take into consideration a fewthings

you lose xp when you die which i hate even more than debt
it takes time to get the really cool jobs
very good chance you'll get killed by an uber bunny thats just worng
getting into a party depned on your class a healer or a tank will always be wlcome into a party this game is no diffrent in that aspect of mmo's
will be able to solo up until roughly lvl 10
then only things familiar from final fantasy that are in the game other than the jobs are, chocobos which take a while to earn, airships which i believe you have to be lvl 20 to even ride, and eneimies as well catar and what not so you will feel a slight connection to the ff world at best.
your bound to one server i think they still do that, i havent played in like forever and you will have to pay like a dollor for every extra character you have
fdo your research go read reviews this may sound insane and possilbe make me a few eneimies but they do know what they are talking about

hey im just a 13 year old kid and i really want to play this game because 1 month on rose online was a waste of money and i want to try this game. it looks great, awsome graphics, great customization (isnt there???), and a variety of classes to choose from (isnt there secondary classes too???). I would really like to make a ninja, or a water mage (black mage with skills based on ice and water). Can someone give me some info? i really want to play but i need some possitive feedback and information. if your going to flame while your telliing me stuff, and how you hate the game, then get lost moron....

1) Yes you do. Level 3-24 You lose 10% of your TNL, 25+ You lose 8%, and the max you can lose is 2,400 exp. A Raise will give you 50% back, (Its a 25whm, 38rdm, and 50 pld spell), There are also Raise 2 and 3 but they'll only give more exp back if you're lvl 50+.

2) Thats all in the eyes of the beholder. Just becuase they're advanced jobs doesn't mean they're any stronger than the basics (In some cases they're not). But none the less if you play for an Advanced job you must be lvl 30 to do the qeusts.

3) Theres a saying in ffxi, "No matter how strong you think you are, there'll always be a bunny that can kick your ass."

4) Yes, in Most all situations, Healer & Tank are whats searched for first, However, A support job like BRD would be the first to get an invite hands down.

5) All jobs can solo to 15 with little to no trouble, its after 20 when you start having a hard time.

6) Lets see, Chocobo's, Moogle's, Mobs, Avatar's, Jobs, Item, Spells, Equipment, umm on yeah, and the part where you'll always be in a party, except for maybe the very beginning of the game. Chocobo's you have to be lvl 20 to do the quest, After you do it, you may ride a chocobo at lvl 15 from the Starter cities, but you need 20 to ride from the Crags. As for airships, you just need an airship pass, level doesn't matter.

7) Yes you're stuck on a server, unless a new one opens up, then theres server migration. Additional characters cost $1.00 USD, Additional characters are usually just storage mules, not many ppl ever have a need to have multipul characters, Since in FFXI you can change your job freely by talking to your Moogle.

8) You could try reviews, Hang around on a few forum boreds, google ffxi and you should find a few, or go look for some video's.

All I can say is that the game has already passed critical mass, the point at which a MMORPG stops getting a steady influx of new members, most of the players are high/max-level or are playing alts, and there is a slow but steady stream of people who are quitting the game. Still, the game is by no means dead, just don't expect the same amount of liveliness and 'oohs' and 'aahs' as you would a new game.

Actually, I see a lot of new players all the time while I play, and they're not alts, trust me, I try to party with them and teach them how partys work.. A lot of them are dumb >.> We all were when we were new. And not many high levels are quitting the game right now, because they recently released an expansion, and havn't unlocked even half the content related to it yet, wich is all high-end.

And for the poster above him, the level cap is 75, and it's hard or easy to level, depending on your job. Healers and support (bards, red mages, white mages) will get invites super fast, while other jobs (dragoon, samurai, thief) get invites very slow.

. was playin WoW for a couple of weeks, but it's a so dam ugly game... Some friends were already lvl 60, but everytime I looked at that horrible scharzwnegger night-elf I almost shot myself.

evrybody was playin WoW, so i'm kind of the "Good Games Resistance", goin against the WoW fashion...

thanks for telling me 75 is the level info!

i remember looking at the world of warcraft site before the game was out, as was like zomfgbbq. i was obsessed with the website, and then i was pissed because it was p2p. so 1 week ago i finally found a working private server................................................................awful......the game sucks......night elves were my favorite race in wc3, but the game is awful.....then i tried rose online, i played the beta, then quit. then i had money so i bout 1 month. got bored of it when i got to level 35 in 3 days....thats like....10+ levels a day, so i played that game out. so now i think ill try this, and stick with it. and is it really true that you can change your job any time you want? i bet it costs some gold???? ALL other games are you pick a class, or you change class at req level. i never seen a game that you can change any time you want. are there also jobs? like as in, to make money jobs. and could someone tell me what they are???

In every city you have a "mog house" wich is your own personal room. Only you can go in there. While in there you can switch jobs to any job you have unlocked, for free.

And yes there is crafting.

Fishing
Cooking
Smithing
Goldsmithing
Woodworking
Alchemy
Clothcraft
Bonecraft

Also, to get materials to use for crafting there is:

Mining
Harvesting
Gardening
Logging
Excavation
Chocobo Digging

In this one you can see your job levels from your menu. And here, from the Mog house Menu it says change jobs. And here's the menu of jobs, Note the ???'s are jobs that arn't unlocked yet. It doesn't cost you any gil, however you're restricted to changing it only in your mog house, a rented mog house, or a Nomad Moogle.
