Looking for something with some severe PvP

I've been speding awhile now looking for a game to play with a decent PvP system (note: the best PvP engine/system so far for me has been by 6 years on Darktide in AC). I've tried a large number of games, including WoW, SB, Matrix Online, SWG, Guild Wars and DAoC. Was just wondering if there is an awesome PvP "gem" out there that I've overlooked? Willing to give anything thats fun a good go!

Any help welcome!

Well, I must say that if you weren't satisfied with the pvp in any of the games you've mentioned, you're probably not going to find anything that appeals, because those games pretty much cover all the basic pvp models out there. But, well, lets give it a shot. Can you please specify what it is that you are looking for in a pvp oriented mmorpg? Can you tell us what you didn't like about the games you did try? Such information will give us a general idea of what it is that you find appealing in a game, and therefore make it easier to make some kind of educated recommendation.

Severe pvp? EVE-Online = open PvP system go to www.eve-onliine.com  for the free 14 day trial.

Siftified, if you have an Xbox 360, go buy Chromehounds.  I know it is not a typical mmorpg, but it can compare to Guild Wars in that sense, and it's PvP is excellent.  It does have a persistant world battlefield where a war between 3 factions takes place.   Squads of mechs (Hounds) take to the maps to battle eachother for supremacy and unify the nation.  Your satistics are kept, as well as your squads and there is a leaderboard for individuals and squads. I am having a blast with it.

    Sure thing :)

Any PvP that's skill based is appealing (rather level or template based). WoW PvP was alright until they created battlegrounds, the only gripe I had with it was the lack of death penalty and no looting :(. SB like AC1 is now pretty much dead which rules that out :(

Darkfall is my biggest hope right now for an amazing PvP experience, I just wish they'd hint at a release :D (Trials of Acension also has me interested)

Ahh yes I did try eve-online once but m comp couldn't really handle it. Now that I have a new gaming machine, it could be time to give that free trial another whirl :D

Only pvp I like in any mmo game so far is RYL--been playing it for 16 months and still playing, but I'm playing a different version from the one listed here (I'd post the link, but I got banned for it last time I did)

It's real-time first-person style of combat, but camera view is from behind the character so you can see weapons and body position, which is important in melee combat.

That's what makes it different from an fps, though i wish some fps's gave the option of camera view from behind in addition to through the eyes because in Battlefield 2, for example, I'm fighting close range with a knife, I would like to see exactly what my character is doing, body position, immediate surroundings, etc.

Search RYL at youtube.com to see videos of gameplay, but realize that some of the videos were made in click-and-watch mode--you can choose between first-person or click-and-watch.  To see first-person killing, search URDead2 or RYL Battle Madness.

If you do, contact me in game my name's "Agricola Augusta". I'm in an alliance that does daily pvp ops from gatecamping to fleet engagments, this will be the quickest way into pvp in EVE since you can start immediately. No need to wait around for those skills and there's always someone online in the alliance and you can jump straight into 0.0 and all out no holds barred PvP.

For the best pvp right now I'd say:

    Space MMO - EVE
    Fantasy MMO - EQ2

    My recommendation? EQ2

Simply because you can pretty much get into the action after a day or two of playing. With EVE it's going to take you a while and a boring grind in my opinion to get to the point of where you can be competetive.

EQ2 you can really get into PVP'ing at the lower levels and it really starts getting fun once you hit level 20, and then it just gets better from there on out.

Its strange to me that more people don't give EQ2 PvP more credit.  It can be pretty cutthroat.

EQ2 pvp servers have some nice features games like WoW should implemented a long time ago:

    - non-decaying credit system for buying pvp items
    - cosmetic pvp ranks based on a kill ladder
    - limited looting of money and non-bound items
    - level-limits in newb and middle zones, unlimited pvp in higher zones
    - completely separate pvp and pve mechanics, balancing is separate
    - Betrayal system, no one is bound to either faction and there is actually a neutral FFA faction, even guildy exiles can kill each other.  Warning: the life of an exile is hard.

I don't play it anymore as I switched to Eve and Auto Assault but I gotta say it a pretty good pvp system.  It gave me thrills WoW never could.  Back in Feb and march zones would break out in war all the time.  It has some hinkiness but the dev really do try and seem to do a good job at improving the game.

I gotta say I tried EQ2 because of the PvP servers after I quit WoW and it really made up my mind.  The EQ2 devs seemed to be making their game better and better and WoW seemed to be getting worse.

Especially when it came to PvP, they actually paid some attention and tried to put in non-halfassed solutions to things.  Even the funky mechanics they seem to hold onto that didn't work well like the viral city flag were altered a few times to at least make them less problematic.

Running through enemy lands in EQ2 actually felt like being behind enemy lines, it was dangerous.  In wow on a pvp server I could just run to westfall as horde and not really care.  On an EQ2 pvp server I never left town without storing my gold and if I went to commandlands or Nek forest as a Q I was on the edge of my seat the whole time.  You were definitely gonna see some FP and they would most likely not only try to kill you but call in some cavalry too.

That sounds awesome, just like the good ol days raiding in AC (the wars over Ayan Baqur were massive as hell, 200+ people at at time) I think i'll also give EQ2 a try along with EVE

Thanks for all the great input guys!

In Darkfall, when your character is killed, Regis Philbin come to your house and bitchslap you. That severe enough for ya?

You still have not tried PvP in EvE, and in AO.

There are different types of PvP btw.

It seems you are looking for FFA PvP. FFA PvP aka Free For All PvP.... any player can attack any player at anytime, anywhere. Sorry, but 100% FFA PvP does not exist in most MMORPGs.

Could you please list what you liked, and disliked about PvP in each of the above games you said you played?

I'm waiting for this as well. I have a little experience with this game though i cant speak about it atm

Also if can get beyond all the other problems the game has, castle sieges in L2 can be incredible pvp.
