But let me add to what he said.
NCSoft cannot fool around with such number. They are listed in KOSPI stock, Korean version of NASDAQ or DOW JONES. They cannot curve this sort of data in this fiercely competitive market especially when they are competiting against many other local/foreign game publishers/companies. The stock won't let you do that unless you wanna face similar sort of fate as Enron Inc has gone through.
NCSoft's total annual revenu is directly proportional or at least related to the actually number of subscribers PAYING monthly fee to play this game. It doesn't matter how many people are using the same account to play the game, all that is important is the total revenu collected from all these individual accounts. However, don't forget that Online/MMORPG game phenomenon has just began. What we see today is only tip of iceberg. MMORPG game industry is still only fraction of Console Game industry today. So for shake of business aspect of this discussion, let's not inflate the whole buzz about Lineage's subscribtion number being overstated or not. What is clear is that as late Richard Garriott stated in one of his interview, that Lineage generated more revenu than the top 2 or 3 best-seller games EA has ever published.
Also, for those who want to get informed more about what's going on on the other side of pacific, note that NCSoft biggest local competitor is Webzen, the publisher of MU Online which is more popular in China (something in the range of tens of million, now I have no way to verify that) than in S. Korea just like Ragnorak is more popular in Japan than it is in S. Korea for some strange reason that I have no comprehension of.

Those numbers sound right to me. RO is more popular in Japan cause Kekekkoreans like PvP and Japs are carebear panzies
