No shes not.
Wheres enigma when you need him? He could tell us all about larping. I once heard he used lightning bolt on someone and they died....
yes she is..
and..
Lightning bolt! Lightning bolt! Lightning bolt!
I wouldn't say hot..........
Hmm, a lightning bolt would be fun........ maybe a Star Wars LARP? What could be more satisfying than using force Choke in real life (sort of)?

Now I get why they removed the LLC

The girl on the top is hot, but the "4th down, on the left," isn't...
Actually, back on topic... That's the kind of thing I'd be interested in attending as an observer, but, uh... I have enough trouble RPing in a game. In real life, I'd just get bored and smack some random person upside the head with one of those padded batons. If I were doing one of those mock battles, I'd probably just get pissed and tackle the dude. It'd be like...
Me: Dude, you just hit my ear!
Them: Stop whining and fight!
Me: Raahh!
Then I'd punch him in the throat... I mean... Walk... Walk away... Yeah... (Just kidding, of course.)
Well just for the hell of it, I ran through lists of some of these events in my area, all I can find is groups of 5-6 megadorks in pajamas in their parents' basement

Yeah, but those 5-6 megadorks can come together to form a single incredible lame SubegaDork! Like in Voltron, but with more acne, flab, and Cheeto stained fingers.
(Super + Uber + Mega + Dork = SubegaDork)
...Somehow, the fact that those events looked like they could be fun and interesting makes me respect myself a little... Ok, well, a lot less...
People who Larp scare me, they are the same people you see pictured at EQ gatherings and Star Trek conventions. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

I dunno if I could roleplay that intensively, but then again, don't forget that it's not you LARPing and other people watching, it's you and everyone else at the same time. So i guess given enough time, and maybe even shorter than you'd think, you won't feel silly, or absurd, etc because everyone else is doing it along with you, so there's no judging or looking down upon.
In a way it's kind of when you hang out with children and you start playing a bit with them, and before you now it you're all into it, coming up with plot as well... until you get that sudden recall that "that's enough now...", especially if other adults are around. I wonder how much longer you'd go along with them if it were just you and the children, no adults around? In a way it seems it's that kind of environment, but not in a juvenile way, in an imaginative way.
Yeah, but I mean, it would be kind of hard to immagine a hacky sack being a fireball. Plus, those "boffer" things are kind of dumb. I mean, it should hurt a little. That's the reason why you're wearing armor... Even if it is just padding, ya know? I'm not saying they should go with actual weapons, just something that doesn't look quite so silly. It'd help people not think of them as social lepers. Well, I think it would, anyway, 'cuz they wouldn't be like "Look at my sword!", while holding a foam bat.
Gotta say, though, it seems like it would be an expensive hobby. I mean, what with the costumes and fake weapons and all. I mean, I followed some links from that sight and found some "LARP armor," or something like that, and it was quite spendy. So were the weapons, really, and the site I looked at, while cool, didn't seem to have any "LARP spears," though they had plenty of other stuff, like swords and stuff...
Pretty cool man, pretty cool. I really like the idea that other people are doing this, branches um "gaming" off into another direction then sports, tabletop, virtual reality and so on. Given enough time, LARPing could evolve into something very cool. *shrug* personally I wouldn't be able to do it, I was too dam shy to even RP back in my D&D days in highschool.
*edit* woah, just scrolled down and read the part about all the support roles. Like playing an NPC or contributing ideas to the storyline. Now THAT I can do. Writing...ahh I love it.
A long time ago, in my late teens, A friend's Dad used to run a faction for a LARP society. He used to organise the 'moots' every month or so. Lots of people dressed up, foam rubber weapons, beer tents and food, basically having a ball.
Anyway i got asked to help out one year. They were short on volunteers for helping the kids RP games.
What fun! Free beer and a Orc suit and all the children beating you to a pulp everytime you popped out from behind a tree.
I had a great weekend but never tried again. Some long term friends still attend The Gathering every year, its the biggest LARP event in europe. It is quite an event nowadays, 3000+ attend from all corners, all dressed in character and ready for some good natured factioning.

Different, yes. Would Hold Person be a legal spell?

The site is quite interesting, especially the LARP goods, lots of links to cool looking fun stuff like Safe Weapons and Armoursets.
