"We have created everything, from the engine to the terrain's modeling tools to the creation of the 500 000 mobs who already crowd the map. In five years of development, we started from nothing to finally reach the release... The game is technically working, and it already is a reason for us to be proud." explains César Jacquet, NP Cube's manager.
They keep to their lying strategy, quite logically. BTW, I've written to the journalist who published the article: I asked for an erratum on the subject of NPCube claiming they did create "everything". No answer yet, and I doubt I will get any. The rest of the article is certainly in the same vein. It's been published on a Reunion Island website, and I think in itself this can explain a lot of strange things, you know.
No journalist ever contacted me on the subject of the story of the development of DnL so maybe you got a few names for me, -Inferno- ?

I found that article on DnL's forums. It had already been posted here before. Unfortunately I don't know why you have not been asked to comment, considering that you could add some actual fact to the fiction that is NPCube's/Farlan's "story of success"...

So, if I get you correcly, it would have been quite normal that journalists try to contact me, correct? Well, my hunch is that NPCube/Farlan have a certain power that I don't have that permits to reach out to the press more easily. What's your opinion about this? Is this the way it goes?
PS: I could post here tons of articles on the DnL subject containing numerous untruths. But it's not easy for journalists to verify sources.
If the journalist knows about the things that happened behind the scenes, i.e. your lawsuit against NPCube for intellectual property infringement, I'd expect him to try to get hold of you. However, I don't think that journalist knew what happened and took NPCube's word for truth. Good luck with getting your side of the story published aswell.
I don't think we can consider that the press didn't know there was a problem, after the article Warcry network issued in June 2005. (http://www.warcry.com/scripts/columns/view_sectionalt.phtml?site=15&id=404&colid=7499) My mistake was not to have claimed for a right to answer on Farlan's reply to this article (though I specifically enquired if it was appropriate or not to state that NPCube/Farlan were lying in this answer).
I can assure the journalist did know, considering all the elements I gave him, among which my official date of employment and sufficient explanations as to my function/job at NPCube and what I did before, elements upon which NPCube/Farlan lied in their official reply and continue to lie. I can only guess the journalist believed more what was Farlan's "side of the story" (please note it was Farlan who answered, and strangely not NPCube but I already explained here why there was and is still a deliberate mix between NPCube and Farlan). I can only guess that he sadly believed I was a programmer who had foolishly quit and tried to earn something out of a lawsuit against his former employer.
Anyway I think that now after all the flat-out lies to the community about the current status of the game journalists would be much more inclined not to believe NPCube/Farlan's "side of the story", if you can still consider there can be two sides to this story.
I know you've had hard times as Community Manager at Stratics and beta-tester of Dark and Light. You may understand well against what I am fighting, and I don't believe a lawsuit will be enough to counter each and every of their deeds.
In conclusion, don't be surprised today by the Reunion Island article, it's only the logical following of their strategy.
Many months before the release of DNL, it was stated here on this board that the DNL game and its developers NP3/Farlan were already the laughingstocks in the industry. A few scoffed at that idea. As we can all see now, it has certainly become common knowledge that DNL is the butt of all jokes in AND out of the gaming industry.
If a motive exists to exploit the BW engine, I think we can safely guess that they have also failed in that course. Due to their own actions - lies, deceit, inexperience, yadda yadda any looking for an engine would certainly steer clear of BW. The horrible and corrupt game does no justice to the engine. For something that they have "developed themselves" they cannot seem to work it properly nor fix the fixes properly. It shows clearly that this engine is not understood by both the development team of DNL as well as the programmers of BW. (cannot see that they do not get help from BW? consulting at least?). No, pushing the BW while at the same time in a good as horrible as DNL is the ultimate in idiotic moves.
BW is already suffering the same fate as NP3/Farlan. Its name is now being pushed around in conjunction with DNL as a joke. Scoff all you wish you will see that even BW will not come out as clean and pretty as they had so wished simply due to the farce DNL has posed since the beginning of all this. A horrible game as is and an engine that does appear to be able to handle even a horrible game is NOT good PR. Any and all involved with this game have and will continue to lose any credibility or respect within the gaming community simply due to the outrageously hyped and outright false and misleading statements that Farlan and NP3 continue to make. ( A simple one day experience in the game shows just how incredibly deceitful the trash they are spreading around truly is. )
As Zippy has stated, it would appear that DNL is in trouble and needs to convince the investors to stay onboard or embark. However, I do not believe that any investor doing his homework would find that these companies are anything but a loss (which may then of course be a deliberate business decision for a money write off). And again, a simple one day experience in the likes of DNL would show any aspiring investor that his money will indeed burn faster than a college bonfire. I dont see any other logical reason for the complete and utter trash that the article is. (Not to mention the fact that the writer of the article did NOT do his own homework either. Remember that byline - this is one writer who also needs to go back to journalism class and learn how to do an article -- or DONT do an article if what you find is total farce).
Farlan is only an offshore company located in mauritius probably only to avoid other countries jurisdiction and taxes. If you google for Farlans postal adress you will find a bunch of other companies located in the same office. Head of Farlan is Cesar Jacquet who also happens to be CEO of NPcube.
For more information about offshore companies in Mauritius click here.
Bigworld support have been announced quite some time after Pix and the other developers have left. BW looked like some emergency solution for me for a lack of capable developers. I cant say I have seen any real mentionable progress in DnL since that time.
Zardust, when I left C.Jacquet was a shareholder of Farlan. The CEO of Farlan was F.Caille. C.Jacquet was also the CEO of NPCube. As a result, the CEO of the developing company (NPCube) was also one of the main shareholder of its client (Farlan). And 50% of NPCube was held by members of Farlan. I don't think Farlan changed head, but maybe you've got sources that I don't have?
As to BigWorld, I did not hear of them working on the 3D engine of DnL after we left. Did I miss an announcement? All I know is that Bigworld was quoted instead of VWORLD/VWorldTerrain in a few articles or wrongly mentionned as combined with VWT to build the infinite view distance and the wonderful viewing experience in DnL whereas BigWorld had only to do with the server side. A mistake might have been done once or twice but when this is happening more than once, you cannot but consider someone ill-informed journalists voluntarily.

Cesar Jaquet is responsible for all administrative, billing and technical entries for the interent domains darkandlight.net, darkandlight.com, npcube.com and farlan.com. Only Laurent Parent is official registrant for NPcube.com with billing and technical contract also directed to C.Jacqut. Just look at the DNS entries and registration dates of this domains. There is only one telefon number used for all entries +262 692 76 22 22, even for farlan.com despite different postal adresses and countries. Considering Maurituius is a well know offshore company location I belive possible failrues have been caclulated befor. I have been one of the customers reporting the GPL license violation for rsync and cygwin without any reaction from NPcube.
and another in which F.Caiile claims that BigWorld is responsible of offering "a seamless world with no load times. ...". This is a VWorldTerrain feature on the client-part. Loading times have nothing to do with the server part.
