--------------------------------------------------------------

This happened last night.

Look what happened to that cool Rise of the Empire-2007  video that was featued on youtube.com. Think the private SWG server sites will meet that same fate once they get to the finished point and populate their servers with NPC?

As shown at Comic-Con International 2006: pre-rendered, pre-visualization of Force Power use in the upcoming next-gen Star Wars title. Though not actual game-play, this video presented the concept of how the Force could be used in a next generation game.

This video has been removed at the request of copyright owner Lucasfilm because its content was used without permission

O RLY? It just surfaced recently and circulated thru Lucas arts own forums, Bioware forums, SWG forums and personal blogs  and these forums as well, plus Comic-Con was just this last week. You must be thinking of something else.

    Clackamas is right.

First time I saw that video, it was being touted as preview footage from battlefront 2.

lol, no it was a video showcasing the next LAE SW title set for release in 07. LAE is just showing off what they can do in games. It's a new engine called euphoria from NaturalMotion as well as the new Digital Molecular Matter (DMM) technology which was developed by Pixelux Entertainment. This was more of technology demo of what they "could" do with force powers in their next game with the technology. From what I read they will be pushing this stuff to console (PS3 and Xbox360) in 07. You guys are so thinking of something else.

They have also been doing the same thing (unless it was the TV channel thatrequested it) to the Robot chicken episode of The Emperor talking to Darth Vadr and ordering lunch...

Having access to a billion $ IP - Billions of dollars..
Having access to a massive fan base of said IP - Even more Billons...
Singly handedly alienating them due to stupidity - Priceless.

I guess not enough people saw it, the MMORPG.com forums rolled back so that thread got deleted. This was a Hyperspace member exclusive (Very recently) so if you have a hyperspace membership you can still see it. The Hyperspace tag in the bottom was present so it was copy righted material. It's not the same video that was passed off as the BF 2 trailer months ago. This is new stuff. lol If you saw it you would know.

It's still accessible.  Do a search on "Star Wars Next Gen" without the quotes.  Second entry down works fine for me.  First entry is the one you mentioned that got removed.

Well...lets say that was video of a game for the 360 and PS3. The 360 version will sell for $60, and the PS3 version for the projected $60-100, lets call it even and say $80. Lets use simple and realistic math/numbers here, it sells 490,000 on the 360 and 10,000 on the PS3 in 1 years time, at $60 and $80 a piece respectfuly. Thats 29.4 million USD in sales from the 360, and 800,000 USD in sales from the PS3, to make 30.2 million USD in 1 years time. All of the profits go to LA.

On the other hand you have the fate of SWG on the line with Emulator servers. Lets be fair and say SWG has 200,000 paying subscribers, at $15 a month. Over 1 years time it would net 3 million USD, to be split amoung SoE and LA to whatever fractions they have in their contract, regardless LA isnt getting all that 3 million.

30.2 million versus 3 million. Dosent require alot of thinking.

While money is likely to play an important part, I think the integerity and control of the IP plays a role too.

I cant argue with that. Star Wars is the lifeblood of LucasArts. They will purchase SoE from Sony before they allow SWG to be beaten by some garage pirates.

Then they had better get on the ball on that integrity part. No matter how you feel about the NGE, SWG managed to raise a whirlwind of bad publicity...arguably more than anything a drunken Jar Jar could ever have done. That and the lack of canon...

I think the keywords here are control and profit.
