I know everquest is old and all, but nothing has ever said "DON'T PLAY THIS GAME" as much as the everquest free trial. I log in, create a character from a wide array of character customization options (ROFL) and appear in a starting zone near a quest NPC. The first thing I notice is the large, annoying, pop-up esque windows that, when X'd out, return right away... in the center of the screen. So while i'm trying to navigate through the starter quest, I have to move the windows just to see where i'm moving. You can bet your ass that new players aren't going to be too happy about that. Then I approached a mob to kill for the quest. Here's where I realized the crappy, clunky, unresponsive targeting system in EQ. I hit "q" for auto attack and WAS DAZZLED BY THE AWARD WINNING COMBAT ANIMATIONS, oops, no I wasn't, i lol'd. Don't tell me this game is "X years old" as an excuse for the less-than-impressive trial everquest has to offer. Don't say I didn't play the game long enough, as playing it made me want to scramble to log out. The everquest trial made me roffle

You didn't play it long enough.
But then I can understand your irritation over having to move a window. I simply can't imagine such a thing! I'd quit on the spot if a game made me move a window. I absolutely hate having to decide where to put windows!
But I agree- MOVING A WINDOW!? How dare they put such a complicated mechanic into the game?
-W.
I've been through the tutorial, would like to point out that it's not available on the progressive servers... so new players prolly won't see it.
that the annoying pop-up windows not only do go away (for me) when you click them off, but they can be turned off... the instructions were in the first window.
and that as a tutorial they prolly weren't popping back up for you, but you were getting the next series of tutorial instuctions - since you missed the one on closing the windows...
But...
I just don't understand this complaint. I've seen it repeated time after time. Players say that EQ graphics are old and outdated and just ruin the game for many...(course then you have the corrolary where they complain about zone updates).I've played UO, AC, DAoC and WoW, to name the top games and I don't see any difference in the quality of the graphics. Am I graphic blind or something?
Now I see a different style of graphics between WoW and the others, but I don't see that it's better, just different. I did like the fact that WoW animations cycle, whereas the EQ animations require constant player input.
Are graphic critics getting their animations confused between MMORPG's and Stand-alone games? And/or console games and/or Video games?
And if you think EQ is bad - Just wait for the next Generation of games! I hear NCSoft is being solicited to put commercials inside the games...

My dog barks some. Mentally you picture my dog, but I have not told you the type of dog which I have. Perhaps you even picture Toto, from "The Wizard of Oz." But I warn you, my dog is always with me.

Your honestly going to sit there and try and uphold that you saw no difference in graphical comparisson between Ultima Online and Wow? Or UO and DAOC? or AC and DAOC? or UO and DAOC? or UO and AC? etcarar ectarar.
