I want Darkfall to come out as much as the next guy. ( as in guy, i mean i really fucking want it to come out )
But how fucking long do i have to wait for any concrete evidence this game is going anywhere?
Plz.
I've been w/ this game for awhile, and I'm willing to stay longer if it takes but give me at least a taste. OTHER then graphics. ( no doubt they own tho )
I guess i'll be forced to Nintendo Wii it up until i gues news (((((((

The Darkfall development team has a lot of great ideas, but I'll agree that at this point it PROBABLY looks like vaporware because the devs have made so many promises/estimates that have been totally off the mark.
I'd say, if they can't beta the game by the end of the year, just write it off.

What makes you think they are in the "home stretch" ? The fact that they announced in their "update" that there will be trading in game and that it will IN FACT!!! take place both on land and on the sea! Lol..
I dont know how old you are, but some day you will have to open your eyes and look at the real world:/
Like they did in 2003 ?

Old enough to have watched the gaming industry grow up from the pen and paper days. Hell I was playing D&D at college back in the late 80's. Plz tell me more
I was following this game since before I got an e-mail from Vosx for my acceptance into Shadowbane beta. Yes I do believe that those features are not only going to be in the game, but that they are already implemented.
With all the things I've heard about Darkfall, they have a lot to live up to. Hence, they will be taking the TIME to perhaps 'live up' to the expectations. Dark and Light is an example of what NOT to do. Ever.
Since screenshots and seemingly updated articles (I liked the non-radar type tracking.....very interesting that one.) keep a-coming,I reckon Q4 2006 doesn't sound too un-realistic a beta launch. They might as well start gathering opinions from beta testers, and then if needed work on it some more.
But I wouldn't be surprised if they held it off to Q1 2007. Regardless,I can't wait to test what appears to be 'the next PvP awesomeness step' in MMO's. Even if the orc models I've seen look hilarious.

Well I dont want to tell anyone what to do its not my busines.
Im just frustrated beceuase I wanted this game to succed, but I dont belive they will deliver the game they promised if they even manage to make it playable.
Let's hope you'll be eating those words come beta. Besides none of us have even PLAYED it yet to judge upon their promised game mechanics. I've seen a trailer and an alpha video, and they looked good on their own. Of course people will approach DFO with caution, but at least should DFO turn out to be really really crap we can walk away and not have to pay anything. Hopefully it won't,and I don't think it will.
Once a beta is finally released,I think a lot of people will know where they stand. Hopefully people (like myself) who liked DFO will be pleased; those neutral may be curious or converted, and those who hate will provide constructive criticism.
The fact you want it to succeed means you like what you see anyway. Otherwise you wouldn't post here. And you don't sound like a moronic troll.
Now serving 'waike tongue' with extra salt. (tastes like chicken!)
I hope you do too. But I could be the one eating my tongue come beta. Still,I won't defend a bad game (not that DFO should turn out that way,but....) and I would say here "Suitepee had fanboi defended DFO,but now sees it sucks blah blah" should that ever come to be the case.
Or I'll be the next blacksac. You decide.
We, as the gaming community have to have faith in these guys to deliver the goods, be patient & quietly excited. Share the positive vibe with those around us, for the more people in the game, the more we can kill!!
Negativity & flaming eachother in forums gets us nowhere... now repeat after me "it will happen. It will be great!"
Yeah,you tell them!
It will happen. It will be great!
JOURNEY TOLD ME TO "DONT STOP BELIEVIN" SO....
"it will happen. It will be great!"
This is what I am trying to tell people. These features are what MMOG's NEED. DF has all this and more. See IGN Quick Peeks (or sneak peeks...whatever) regarding DF. Lots of detailed info. And BTW, beta offers have been issued to my guild and they are compiling a list of who gets in. Dont care if it's me or not, my guildie is already in and I will be camoing at his house while he beta's. I KNOW that all the complainers and negative folks will eventually eat their words when this game blows everything else away and sucks 3/4 (if not more) of WoW's brats away and to DF. Oh, wait, those brats can stay with WoW, we dont want them in DF (they couldnt handle it anywayz, no carebear there!).
peace

I do feel your post is a little harsh and disagree a little with the primary points. Although the size of the team does have an important bearing on its eventual outcome, it is certainly not the be all and end all (ever heard of the mythical man month). A small dedicated team who live and breathe their work are far better than a team 5 times the size who purely do it to get paid and have so much less passion in what they do. Whilst I may be wrong about the developers, the fact that it was their idea and their product and they have stuck by it more or less leads me to believe they belong to the former category. I do agree though that they may have been slightly naive, even deluded when they raised the prospect of beta testing in 2003, but I am sure they are not the first team to fall foul of their ambitions.
Furthermore, in addressing your point about the engine, what type of engine do you mean specifically? If you mean the graphics engine, then as long as it is designed well with extensibility in mind, then it would be relatively easy to upgrade to the latest technology, be it DirectX or whatever as and when required. As for other engines such as physics or AI, there is little of significance that would have to be modified throughout development.
With regards to your second point concerning finance, I do believe that they have had significant sponsors and interest since E3 2006 though please correct me if I am wrong. It would not surprise me however, seeing the work they have revealed so far is very promising, and undoubtedly there will be several takers ready to cash in on the potential success. Also, their small team size in this instance plays to their advantage.
Also, in terms of the plausibility of implementing the feature list which is longer than any I have ever seen, I am also a little concerned that these will all be done successfully for release. However, I am slightly reassured with the fact that actually, a lot of the features are relatively simple to implement if the groundwork is done correctly. As some would say, it is just then simply a matter of coding
To be honest, the thing that worries me the most is that their system may not scale very well once released and that they will underestimate the initial player base as so many new mmorpgs do these days, although I have had nothing to indicate that this could be a potential problem. I really do hope they design their system well enough to cope with the numbers.
As it stands at the moment, all we can do is hope that it does succeed, or there will be a gap in the market for a long time to come. I am not saying it is guaranteed to succeed, I am saying it must succeed for the sake of the future of the genre!
"Lol the game was overhyped from start. You realy belive they would manage to put in all those features to a game made a by a small team with low funding? The problems with never ending develoment is that 1) the engine gets old realy fast 2) money runs out. Looks like they will either never realese the game or try to pull something like d&l

this shit is vaporware plain and simple.. cant believe anyone follows this and thinks its gonna be what they say its going to be. 6 years now.. hm
REAL pvp games being made by pros that will actually see the light of day..

Real game? Made by pros!?
You currently have 2 options:
1. The old mourning team, who scammed, ripped off and passed of shit as a game, are still making Thrones of Chaos. NOT PROS.
2. A new set of losers, stupid enough to actually pay real money for the mourning engine, are making Thrones of Chaos. NOT PROS.
oh really? could you show me the quote?
they don't said, beta will start this year!
the only thing that happened about beta is that brannoc said, "it feels like beta" - nothing more, nothing less...
waiting for DFO a long time now, but realistically i don't think beta will start this year. but if i'm wrong, i would be happy of corse
!hasta la victoria siempre!

Has the date for beta been finalized? If yes, will it be this year?
The problem this dev team has is that they had their change to adventurine, and so what was possibly going to release in 2003, got revisited and they revamped a lot of things. I for one am glad, or I think we would have ended up with another Shadowbane. Instead they've taken 3 more years to get to where they are, which hopefully is beta by the end of this year. If not, oh well, life moves on either way.The date for beta isn't locked quite yet but our target date is this
year. It's important to remember that we'll announce beta and launch
dates as soon as we've locked them.

Does it really matter if it is all a big lie? As i see it I would NEVER buy anything over the net with out first knowing its from a big corp, say like amazon, ebay,or blizzard. I would not buy DF unless it was on the shelf in a store.
If your going to go buying crud on the internet, or worse, preordering games on the net that are not even completed and that you have doubts about then you are the type of people that deserve to be ripped off. If how ever you have thought about this, then if/when it comes out in the stores, then good buy it, if they ONLY say its preorders or buy over the net stuff then wait it out, and read sme reports on it firrst.
Personally myself I think it is real, and that its just taking a little longer to get out, remember that from thinking of the idea to releasing it, WoW is reported to have taken 4 and a half yrs to do. I know that goes from just talking about it to completion but they still had and have many more resourses to pull on.
Plus the expansion, the buring crusade, is over 9 months in development now, that 9 months for an addon with many highly paid "experts" on it with seemengly limitless money pot to back them up.
You would think after Mourning and DnL, people would learn their lesson and make the developers of games actually deliver the game before any payment is made. Oh, well. There will always be scams (not necessarily referring to Darkfall, just in general) because there will always be clueless suckers who will never learn and think just because they hand over money first, that they are actually guaranteed to receive the game as promised. I think maybe I should start making vaporware. It seems to be profitable
anyone who ever preorders an half-assed product is a moron and deserves to be scammed. Aventurine/Razorwax/<insert game developer here> wont see a penny from me before i know theres a working product.
