I think being an AC baby has just ruined my mmorpg experience. I can't find any game with a community, expansive world, loot system, continuously updated content, or overall entertainment value that comes anywhere CLOSE to ac's.
I miss messing around in eastham or qalabar, I miss getting a group of 20 level 20's to do stupid stuff because the game was just that fun. I miss setting up groups of 50 or more to do quests like the lightning or acid stones. I hate how there is no random loot system anymore, every character is so cookie cutter. I really miss being able to have a huge world to play in, having to run for 30 minutes to get to my dungeon, i hate it being 3 minutes from the local town.
If the community was still in AC i would be there also but the last few times i've gotten on in the past few months it has just been a ghost world.
I think because AC has ruined my I might never be happy with an MMORPG again, Vanguard seems like it has the expansive world that might just get me hooked but I can't tell; waiting on the beta. If Vanguard fails me I believe I will be retiring from the MMORPG universe.
Well, I guess all that I really meant to say was.....I miss you AC....

There is absolutely still random loot. A lot of variables have been added over the years, but that only makes it more random. I don't think every character is so cookie cutter. I find a pretty good variety of characters.
The world is actually bigger than it used to be. Various islands have been added over the years. While some dungeons were added close to towns, the majority are a long run.
Which FF Character Are You?
AC was awesome pre-descruction-of-Arwic... it was all downhill after that, even though it was still good for about a year... if they had done a full graphics revamp for ToD instead of that half-ass crap and added a ton of new content (which they might have, not sure) they would be doing as well as EQ2 i would bet, but they didn't, so it sucks now... what a shame, the best overall MMO to date is basically dead now... look to TCoS, its gonna be sweet, but I still doubt as good as AC was, that will take a miracle to recapture, though i hope someday someone does it.

Asheron's Call has more content than any game I've played. The only bad thing is less players and an end to the newb feel. The game is improved in almost every other possible way.
I don't even think populations are a problem. I have been checking the populations of my server, and it looks like they went up a bit from the last month. I have no problem meeting people, questing, or trading with others, so I don't see how anyone can claim the game is dead.
I'm just a bit fed up with people coming here who haven't played the game in years say that this game is dead. Then other people who also haven't played in years hear that the game is dead, and start spreading the word on other forums. It's a cycle of lies.
I'm not saying AC1 is dead, mind you... just pointing out that I've heard this before. AC1 being down to 30k subscribers (15k if you believe MMORPGCHART.COM) when it had 50k last july certainly isn't a healthy sign, however.
And Turbine isn't helping the game any by refusing to put out a free trial.
