As there is a thread on races, why shouldn't there be a thread on classes?
My favourite is some kind of barbarian, duel wielding and light armour will destroy everything else!

VANGUARD > ALL
Class-less
"Memories are meant to fade. They're designed that way for a reason."
This does not apply to Bards in general. The EQ bard was the one truly unique character I've played.
In all the current MMO's out there, the classes are all about the same. Meaning, a warrior is a warrior no matter what game you play.
However, the is nothing like the EQ Bard in any game out there, and if there is, I haven't played it.
There was nothing like twisting songs in EQ, and generally being able to do anything that the group needed. No class has ever been as fun as the EQ Bard to me.
I'm very doubtful that we will ever see something as unique asthe Bard class in EQ.
certain mage classes
I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.
I usually prefer pet classes. They tend to be the most self sufficient ones, and good for solo play in case no team can be found. But you're right, few designers dare to break the schemes of traditional class roles (tank, healer, damage dealer).
I personally liked the Bureaucrat in Anarchy Online. He had multiple pets he had to struggle to control at the same time (two via easily breakable mind control), crowd control spells and various stuff to make a team happy. He was uncommon, didn't fit in any traditional class role and was still fun to play, and an essential part of a team in that game.
My favorite class has always been the pure damage dealer that can wear heavy armor, the best example that I can think of is the Dark Knight of FFXI, they look so evil when they are wearing their full AF gear.

By the way, mages are overpowered and need to be nerfed in pretty much all RPGs.
i hate playing wimpy spellcasters
