I wonder what this years MMORPG will win. I would say WoW but i doubt it will be out this year.

How many time must I tell you, WoW will not be a good game. If you read a very detailed article about WoW written by someone who played the pre beta and really think about the features, you will see the truth.

I must admit, I am a little surprised that FFXI won mmorpg of the year, then again I suppose fact is that is that 2003 wasnt really a terribly good year for mmorpg releases. Overall quality of the new mmorpgs was pretty dire.

Hmm..tough decision Rathma...there are some pretty good looking mmorpg releases due this year.

I suspect that WoW will indeed be a contender for mmorpg of 2004, possibly EQ2, perhaps even UXO depending how that pans out.

After playing through lvl 50 as a dragoon this game is hardly game of the year material but at the same time it didn't really have much to go up against I suppose.

As for comparing it to wow, until that reaches beta and people break the NDA to talk about it (which they will) it's too soon to know.

Have to agree with Klamde... I loved warcraft, but there isn't anything about WoW that interests me so far... Not in the slightest. Congrats FFXI I think you deserve it!

And why is the guy who says he is Lvl 50 Dragoon say it isn't a great game? Does everyone realize how long it takes to get to lvl 50 Dragoon? lol You musta seen something damn good in it to play it that long ;b Funny irony... Well when I reach Lvl 50 Nin/Sam, then I'll probably be pretty tired of it too but I'll know it kept me hooked for awhile

It's SURE that WoW will win MMORPG of the year. Read the name, World of WARCRAFT, made by BLIZZARD. 90% people will buy the game without reading anything about it. Some will even buy them without know it's online, rofl.

Would WOW becoming game of 2004 be any more surprising than a poor excuse for a RPG as Final Fantasy ..??????

How many people bought FF. Just because of the name Final Fantasy? It has very little if anything to do with the GREAt games for console that have been released.

and as far as things that are wrong with FF?? owwwww were to begin..

1: The forced grouping? Many games require you to group up in order to fight the big monsters. However you can go out fight many other monsters solo. Examples of this would be UO and AC1.

2: The ability to communicate? There are link shells. But why must i have a link shell for every damn group i talk to. There are no monarchies or reasons other than xp for players to join up. So you get very little as far as game help or friends go. Seldon does a high lvl help a low lvl out in ANY way.

3: Non fight jobs are useless? Why fish =- for more money? Come on I sepnd hours of my life and my real money so i can make a little game money for fishing? I belive bone crafting was about the only one that truly got anything worth while in the end worth doing.. Oh wait i can spend days of my rl working on making a acid dagger that does an extra 1-6 points damage every couple hits.. When my average damage is like 10 or 20 times that?

I can go on and on... There were alot of good things in this game and it could have been a truly GREAT one. But other than graphics this game was not worth it.

::sigh:: I get tired of people complain about features in this game. Think for a second. Features. YOU DONT HAVE TO USE THEM. I personally think the linkshell is a great idea. Its fun to make friends in this game. FFXI is just a big chat engine with a game to play while you chat, but so are most other MMORPGs now.

In response to the most complained about topic, forced parties or whatever... how many Final Fantasy games have you played solo in? Think about that one....

All of them....in all the other FF games you didnt had to go out and advertise yourself hoping you would get into a semi-capable group

No... what i meant was character wise. Every FF game you have to have a party. Like FF7, you start alone and then you have a party the whole game. FF3 (or FF6 in JP) you had a party. Conversion of this idea from console single play to MMO was simple. Make every character in the party a PC. Get the concept? Forced Parties are always there.

Please tell me im not the only person who understands this...

i think this year its going to be between WoW, EQ2 and Lin2...

although MOST people who are going to be playing WoW are only doing so because their Blizzard fanboys... seriously face it... if WoW had nothing to do with Blizzard or the Warcraft name would even half the people who are interested in it now, still be?...

EQ2 is more or less the same way... all the former EQ players will be hopping over...

also i their probably only going "MMORPG of the year IN AMERICA" and not "The World MMORPG of the year" or else it would be Lin2 for sure (since its already broken records in Korea and planning on doing so in a few other Asian countries)

Lin2 will have the most subscribers worldwide but in america WoW will probably win simply because of Blizzards fanbase

LOL dont knock something that you have never even tried, EQ is the best MMORPG there is fool! Glorified D&D hell yeah, extremely glorified. Owns all other MMO's. EQ2 will even be better than that.

Sorry man but EQ is the best there is hands down. I only quit due to the huge, fun but large time sink required.
