limited pvp are you Fk'n kiddin' me?!?!
when the real collapse of civilization goes down will there be safe zones where people can hide their resources? where people can taunt their attackers, without fear of consiquence?
fallen earth will be crap unless it's completly open pvp anywhere any time. perhaps an isolated n00b land where lv's 1-10 can't be killed, but after that is should be completly open. where people must rely on craftiness, an connctions too keep them safe.
you care bears out there think that when the real shit hits the fan you wont get ganked of greifed your kiddin' yoselfs!!!
who's with me on this?!?
ps. i just hope they get the mmo out before it really happens. the end IS near.

Not really. Only a small minority of gamers are hardcore PVPers. And in my opinion those who want to slaughter their way through a game shooting at anything that moves should play shooter games, they are made with that in mind. Online games also got a social and a roleplaying aspect. If you can't deal with "getting tauned" other than resorting to violence perhaps you should play a different kind of game, or get yourself a cookie.
Don't get me wrong, I do the occasional PVP as well, but an online slaughterfest, that's a shooter, and not an MMOG. And while the developers confirmed that the game will have FPS elements it is still labeled as an online roleplaying game first of all.
I am a roleplayer myself and having all PvP zones would ruin some of the roleplay out there by having random people who are not even roleplayers come up and kill you because you are of a differnt faction. I think that instead of servers they should have like Star wars Galaxies (Sorry for bring up the game but it had some good points) have faction status where you can decalre and be open for PvP anywhere. Or be covert and not be affected by PvP.
And/Or they could have Guilds be able to war each other that way if you are a Roleplayer you can trust that the other guild will only fight you for Roleplay reasons. This may sound a bit odd, but no one wants to be "griefed" for being in a faction. Yes it does have some minor Real life flaws.. but you dont buy a game to work in a office all day filling out paperwork do you.. no.. (unless you are crazy).

That's funny seeing the only thing I got out of FoM was that it was a gankers heaven. Given it's a bad example in any context.
If you like PVP, you'll most likely hang out in open areas free to do what you will, if you don't you stick to the settlements. Easy as that.
Why PvP lovers feel the need to force a type of gameplay on people who just don't want to is beyond me. I like to PvP, not all the time, and face it. A lot of people feel the same. There are games out there that will cater to you, is it hard to accept that FE won't be one of those games?

Want open PvP?
Use guild wars then....
Red all the time to the oposition.
works like a charm in SWG...Ofcourse that usually aint enough for the hardcore PvP'ers, as that wouldnt let them kill everything that moves
I played FoM a bit....gankfest... Not a good example...Kinda like UO wouldn't be a good example before the split...
Open PvP = some decent and respectable PvP'ers (players who I find it darn funny to play with and against), and a whole shitload of gankers.....
You might be one of the good guys, but you're among the minor minority then.

Safe zones are so artificial and break roleplaying immersion. OMGZ this is safe because the police turret will kill you if you attack!
Lame.
Im 34, have been playing MMOs since Meridian59 (not counting MUDs) and have forgotten more about roleplaying and MMOs than you could muster in a day's worth of headscratching.
Roleplaying isnt just about acting. Its about acting as your character at all times. There's a difference. See you're probably one of those guys that runs around in tights saying "thee" and "thou" and hoping to cyber some guy playing a girl character in WoW.
Anyway, artificail PvP zones are idiotic for the fact that they are ARTIFICIAL. In a real world, a true roleplaying world you can do anything that your character would do. If you did bad things there would be consequences for such, but not some artificial OMGZ Guard one-hit kills you for 100000 damage because you're in the safe zone and you drew your weapon.
Im just going to assume you're a FE fanboi and trying to defend it. Surely you cant be as infantile after you've thought things through.

I never said the game would be an instant failure. On the contrary, I think there is enough pent-up demand for a post-apoc MMO that FE will do well.
What I said was that restricted PvP, in my opinion, restricts roleplaying. Argue with a brick wall all you want, but that's how I feel. And thats how a lot of my MMO-playing friends feel.
It doesnt matter. Fallen Earth has psi-magic stuff (see the screenshot of the chick shooting the fireball) so Im not sure if Im going to play it. On the other hand, I might simply because I crave post-apoc.
Flame me if you wish.
That makes no sense whatsoever.
Isn't it realistic to have consequences to your actions? Of course it is. If someone of authority sees you kill someone, guess what...it's your turn. It would break my immersion to blow someone's head off in a major city in broad daylight and NOT have anyone care.
I like the idea of being able to kill anyone anywhere, but there should be certain areas where doing so will not end well for you.
Joined 2004 - I can't believe I've been a MMORPG.com member for 20 years! Get off my lawn!
In a real world? HELLO??? Its a game you nutter! Real world? Hmmm do we have anything in common with this game in the real world? Do you have cat eyes? I think not? Next weak arguement please.
FE fanboi? How can I be a fan boy of a game that isn't out yet? I guess by your immature defination of fan boy I would be a fallout fan boy. Boy is spelled B.O.Y btw. If you really are 34, which I highly doubt and pray you arn't, you may want to consider acting it. Yea thats like roleplaying it btw....
You called me infantile, yet here you are flaming a community of people who love this era only cause they dont go along with your retarded sense of combat... go back to quake BOI where you belong. Leave the grown-ups to grown up games like FE.
You have been flamed. Better luck next time with another weak ass reply
First of all, I never flamed anyone. I merely state my opinion that someone else's opinion was wrong.
Second of all, great work with all the age references. Yeah Im 34 and I act like it. Continuing to flame me makes me think you're at best 18 years old if not younger. But so be it. It wouldnt be the internet if trolls like you didnt flame. Not like your opinion matters.
Third of all, you really are an idiot if you dont think you can be a fanboi (the original 1337 term, btw) for a game that hasnt come out. People have fierce loyalties that can be created at any time. There are many already who, because they love post-apoc soooooo much, are ready to defend FE simply for this fact...and not on the merits of the game as we've been shown it will be.
Fourth, a lot of people strive for realism in their games. Yes even in fantasy and magic games. It's not unheard of to hear someone say "well thats dumb, thats not realistic" even in MMOs. Especially in a post-apoc game thats based on a near future. Of course its a game with artistic license. Dont be a maroon.
Finally, you're really strange if you think that roleplaying is ONLY acting. Its playing the ROLE of your character, i.e. doing what that character would do at all times and not going out of character.
You wont absorb any of this, but thought id type it up so that in a decade or so you can learn the wisdom it imparts.
That makes no sense whatsoever.
Isn't it realistic to have consequences to your actions? Of course it is. If someone of authority sees you kill someone, guess what...it's your turn. It would break my immersion to blow someone's head off in a major city in broad daylight and NOT have anyone care.

Remy, we're on the same page for the most part. Im all for consequences. One of the reasons Fallout was so great was there were consequences for your actions.
But in a game where some robotic death-master one-hit kills you...instead of having a reactive world where there are REAL consequences (NPC vendors not talking to you, street NPCs cowering away from you) ...its very non-immersive to me. Anyone who got beat down by the guards in the original EQ knows what I mean.
The only moronicly strange person here is the one still preaching on that roleplaying has anything to do with PvP. I hate to shatter your sense of self chummy but Fallout didn't have any PvP. Was that a crap game too?
Get a clue... or even better an entire book of them. I am done trying to impart any sense in you. You are a waste of my time. Go back to quake kiddo. Its where you belong.
does anyone even bother reading previous threads before posting? How many folks need to start up yet another thread about no open pvp?
Not everyone likes PvP. Personally I like instanced RvR type PvP myself or flagging yourself as PvP enabled. That could be a solution. If you havent self flagged you cant get griefed. If you leave yourself flagged then anyone can gank the shizzot out of ya. Fairly easy to code and implement that one : if pvp enabled = true then......;
DaoC is great. big RvR battles, but it has a purpose...Realm points to use on new skills. Ganking just for the sake of ganking...*shakes head* If there was open PvP I'd need a reward system and purpose. Just griefing someone because you can has very little appeal to me.
If an old lady falls down the stairs I'd help her get back up. If the nuclear holocaust happens tomorrow and ten years later I see an old lady fall down the stairs I'd like to think I'd still help her get back up...Not shoot her in the back of the head while smirking "PWd j00 n00b!!!!!111"
That's funny seeing the only thing I got out of FoM was that it was a gankers heaven. Given it's a bad example in any context.

FE will still be a good game if it's not entirely open PvP. There are other post-apocalyptic MMOs coming out with open PvP, so I have those to look forward to.
Roleplaying in a MMO is being able to do what you want with your character. If there are safe zones and restricted PvP, how are you supposed to roleplay killing someone? Roleplay is not "acting", It's living your character in a virtual reality. The less restrictions, the more immersive the roleplaying is.
FoM is also a boring POS and is long overdue for death, so you might want to use a better example to illustrate your point.
SERIOUSLY
i wanted open pvp
ive been watching this game
but didnt look at the news and this is crazy
I'll still play and love it
but i mean god
and OPEN PVP
doesnt mean "DEATH TO ROLEPLAYERS"
its about a mature community
UO HAD IT
its about your faction vs other factions
not a 24/7 battle
but realism
like the idea of working for years on things
and having to protect them
if someone blows up your house or whatever
its part of the game
ITS ABOUT CHALLENGE
and its a fantastic idea
and care bears have killed a good aspect of this game
DAMN IT CAREBEARS
what wont you kill??
IM NOT A GANKER
i just want to pvp without having to be in a designated arena like a pansy.

Like I said, a flagged approach would work wonders. if you want open PvP keep yourself flagged. if you are currently unflagged and attack a flagged player then you in turn will become flagged for x amount of time like it or not. If you arent flagged then you arent vulnerable to PvP attacks unless you attack a flagged player.
Code for this is very easilly implementable and it works in other games rather well. The hardcore types can more than likely find others that will share their philosophy and you can start on earning each other's emnity anytime you run into each other. But for those that would like to PvE the two of you can go about your business and give them some live entertainment. Who knows it might inspire them to join in the fun. Shoving something down someone's throat just isnt a practical business decision, and as gamers we know what we like and dislike.
Flagged ftw!!! unflagged FTW!!! omg everybody wins!!!!!!
Flagged, Actually i never thought of that,
thats a fantastic idea
But i would make one change to your plan
it takes 5 minutes to turn from flagged to unflagged
Because think about it
You are about to kill someone of enemy faction
And then he just runs and unflags himself
bullllshit
haha
Also,
i think their should be a dueling feature
like wow
where you can fight almost to the death,
but you cant kill your friend,
So you can play around with your pals in a duel.
