in Final Fantasy XI

Iv been looking at FFXI again recently and i realised that when i first got it i dont think i gave it the chance it deserved and i am considering trying it out again, but i just have a few questions.

What server would you recommend i try to get access to ? Which is most populated and best in general for whatever reasons (please let me know ::::20::).

What class would you recommend to a new player, i watched this video on Youtube Click to see video and from it i saw that i was most interested in Monk, Dark Knight, Summoner (pets look awesome), White mage, Black mage and Ninja. Hard descision so i appriciate any input and advice here, fi you think i would benefit more form another class then please let me know ::::01::.

How is the population of the servers these days as the game has been out a while now ?

I originally got the game with The rise of Zilart and Chains of Promethia, i think there is another expansion out now to, if so, is it worth getting ?

    you can buy this  Final Fantasy XI Online Vana'diel Collection which contain the game and the first 2 expansions for about 20$.

    Go warrior,red mage,white mage or black mage for early grouping (lvl10+)

    The Newest expanison ads more high level/end game content and  3 new classes (blue Mage, puppeteer, corsair) Not really worth getting rightaway if you havent got higher lvl characters yet.

    The economy on ALlL servers is FUBAR and on Bahamut and Valefor I see very few english speaking people on when I play between 11pm-4am EST.

    Thanks for the replies guys, iv already got the Vandiel(sp?) collection, im just trying to remember my log in details now, does anyone know if there is somewhere that i can retrieve paswords and account names etc ? im really stuck with this now the whole play online setup has got even more confusing than it was about 8 months ago :/.

    You can try calling tech support, but customer service isn't very helpful >.> Next time write that stuff down on the blank pages left in the back of the manuel for notes.

    Edit: Btw, is that Toejam & Earl in your avatar pic?

    I might end up just rebuying the game its only £9.99 thats like $18 and the monthly fee is about £8 anyways, atleast then i can start with an account that i will remember lol.

    Yeah its Toejam and Earl hehe, how awesome where they lol.

    i recommend the fenrir server, unfortunatly you dont choose your server, if i find my world pass key i will message you

    Thanks alot mate id appriciate that :). Im still trying to get this user and pass sorted, i think ill just order a new copy though, saves the hastle and its the same price.

    Wasn't the warrior the one, who had hard time getting a group?

    I though summoner looked fun :o. Might try a White mage though not 100% sure yet, ninja also looks cool. Lol so many choices, im looking forward to playing again.

    The best thing about FFXI is that once you choose your job class you can change your mind at any time. If you start on Whitemage and dont like it you can change to a different job. I started as a thf but didnt like it and turned to mage jobs. When you start you only have the choice between the main jobs the game 1st started with. WAR MNK THF WHM BLM RDM there might be more i forget. But once you hit a certain lvl (30 maybe) then you have to quest to be able to have access to the advanced jobs like SMN PLD NIN SAM BRD DRG BST ect..... Its so versatile you dont have to stick to any one thing you choose at the beginning. You can even change your hometown and redo the missions from another town if you want to.

    As far as picking a job it really depends on what you want to do. As a whm you will have a better time finding a party, but its highly stressful when the party dies and everyone pointing the finger at the noob mage, war and mnk is fun to just smash things but may have a harder time finding a party. It really depends. Check out http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/ This is where i go for all of my info. They have great forums for everything they have separate categories for alot of things like job classes and even the servers.

    Im on fenrir and i love it. It has a decent mix of players from all over but ive never been on a different server to compare. Good luck if you are interested in getting on fenrir leme know ill see about getting you a world pass.

    Thank you for a very informative post, it soudns great :). I really appriciate your break down of the class system and now i think im pretty sure ill either be a WHM or BLM, i usually play melee classes so i think its about time i gave the mages a chance for once :).

    Two people have recommended Fenrir to me now so it must be pretty good lol. Im not 100% sure how the whole world pass things works, but i wouldnt mind one :).

    When you're making a character it prompts you for server, If you don't have a world pass then you'll just randomly land on a server. However if you do, you type in server name, then the world pass number (Its like a 10 digit number) And you'll go directly to that server.

    Any additional characters made after the first will automaticially land on which ever server the main is on. This is handy when making aditional storage mules.

    Roughly all servers are the same. Most people will tell you their server is the best. (But really how many servers do you think they've been on?). So just randomly roll on a server, find a friend who plays and join his server, get somone on the forum to invite you to theirs, or Pick the one who's name you like the best (Still requires a world pass). I can't say much for any of the other servers, but Hades & Remora are supposibly the worst of the 32.

    Thanks for the info mate, i think im gonna try get a world pass to Fenrir, iv read there forums and it seems like it has a good community on that server unlike some of the others.

    I still havnt decided on my race/class combo yet. Whats the PVP like in ffxi (if there is any) and wht chars are good for pvp, i enjoy pvping alot and the besieging thing sounds fun to.
