I have been checking this game out, and it looks like a very fun game. The graphics are very attractive and by what i have read it sounds like the world is amazing, which i am looking forward to. I am an ex SWG player, and yes, i have tried lots of games that just havent filled swgs shoes.
I am looking forward to the pvp in this game, which i loved in swg. But i have a couple questions. I will be playing this game in more of a casual way. I dont have time to play it all day every day because i am playing two sports for the highschool, school is ocming up, and i have a girlfriend. But i do find myself with nothing to do a lot of the time, so i figured i could get this game. I would probably play a good amount, a little more then a casual player, a little less then the average gamer.
Also, does this game have a good community? That is one of the things i enjoyed most about SWG. Everyone was mature and a very fun group of people to hang out with. I am hoping that i would be able to find a guild that has vent, for in game purposes and just chatting. Also, any guilds right now that could pick me up if i were to get the game?
But thanks in advance, and anything else that anyone ould tell me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

hey bro, ahazi vet here!
Well the community is really based off clans, when you join a clan they become your backup. At lower level the game is easy but boring till about 20 l when you hit D grade stuff. Then you can start grouping for boses, The boses drop some stuff that you can sell or keep, depending. But the loot they drop can help you make money.
The crafting system is big, takes alot of mats to make stuff but good money in it, if you can stick it out.
I didnt like the game at first, boring grind, but i gave it a chance and am starting to like it. You just have to get by the lower levels. You have to remember the game is open pvp, so anyone at anytime can attack you. You dont want to die to much as you may drop your stuff, but i like that part of the game, make it more interesting.
Most clans dont invite you till about level 30 plus and many dont till 40 or above. Thats really not much of a prob as most people will leave you alone till then.
ITs not a hard game to learn, if you do try it out and want a few swg vets around there are a few on Erica server, my toons name is Ailli give me a yell if you join Illl help you out with some good no grade gear. We also have a personal vent server, your welcome to join us there also. peace......
scoot, join up, ill help you also. its no biggie. infact you two should join together, that way leveling will be faster. we will help you tho anyway. if we get enough people we will start our own clan. but thats down the road. Remember tho guys its a hard grind, not like swg. The economy is wild in this game. price can vary like crazy. But its that way on any of the servers here. Ive checked them all out... Anyway guys see you in game. peace pv......ps. remember one thing at low level, if someone name is red, RUN :P
mostly true. its a grind. but in swg i was a doc, ch, be, fencer, jedi, h sword, and on and on all pre CU. I ran avian missions till i was blue in the face. Im used to the grind, no biggie. as far as taking 5 months for level 40 no way. i did it in 3 weeks. i did boss runs at 20 like crazy, you just need to get a good group together. I think this game is more who you get to know, I didnt even want into a clan till i was past lev 35, Yes i have a job, and no i dont live on my computer, you just need to figure out the best place to grind. When you hit 40 its no that bad. Like swg some people hate it some like it and some come to understand it. this game is not for the faint of heart, no instant gradification. But i like that part of the game.
Its not swg, nothing ever will be for me, this game works becouse i CAN NOT join and a month later own everything in the game. I might have it better than most becouse i came here with some others and we worked together. There are 3 of us from ahazi, and ive talked to a few other swg vets here, so i have some people i can call on if i need help. The best part is this game is not run by soe! and has high end content, its fun doing the castle fights, looks cool as hell when the leader comes in on his dragon!
Bot trains are funny, a few of us killed a train the other day, Then they send in the" a" graders to kill us but we got away, if anything the bots can give you some comic relief. Ive only been pk'ed 4 time since i started the game, so greifers must be more prevailent on other servers.
anyway, im only level 48 working on getting into B grade stuff, will be interesting... Plus i want to start crafting . Just takes time .... This game is not for all, but those who stick it out can make some fun out of it. peace pv.....
You tried L2 nthnaoun???????
From what I've seen of your post on other topics I could have told you before you spent the money you wouldn't like it. You appear to be very touchy about PvP and communities. I'm surprised to even see you posting on/watching the L2 forum lol....trying to save a few souls?
The community is just fine, all you are saying here is you didn't make it off the starter area. Leveling is tough but not as tough as you say pre 40.
OP, its a hard game. Its designed that way. You need to have patience and you need to be social in this game to succeed.
If you think you are going to solo to cap then play capture flags or something within a few weeks, thats not the case.
Do your homework on this game.....
One thing I will add is your comp set up. You do not need to go out and buy the latest Alienware set up but you need to be smart.
You need at least 1G RAM (2G would be nice) and a decent graphics card. If you have the cash and need to upgrade, I would recommend a 7600GT. You will be hard pressed to find a better graphics card in the $190-210 price range. I installed it on my back up comp and the results were amazing. No more lagging in sieges.
I run dual 7900GTX's on my main but I am convinced it is overkill. I think one 7900 would have been great. It is still better than my 7600 but not sure if it is $500 better.
Bottomline...have a comp that can handle the game or you will be frustrated quickly.
6600's dont count as old useless cards. In the world of GPUs, the 6600 is a celebrity. It is probably one of the best cards built in it class. I still have friends that ebay 6600s for their alt comps!

Nah, I don't watch these forums. It was on the main page as the last topic posted and I know some things about L2 and I like to help. It was rude of you to say that I never left the starting area like I never played the game or something. That's not very nice. I did leave the starting area and I did get into my later 20's with the best D-Grade you can buy, but that took me 4 weeks just to do and it was the most boring grind I could ever do. I literally killed the same monster over and over and over again for days (I didn't use soulshots because they were really over priced and I couldn't afford them) (I don't mind a game that takes forever to get to max level, but at least make it interesting). And that was going to the mobs with the best xp drops. I didn't get into raids, but my friend did. He liked them. No one would ever invite me to their groups, no matter how many times I asked. I guess people don't like Knights. I definitely wasn't one of their FOTM classes.
DAoC was my first game, which I started playing in 2002. I could join clans/guilds, do seige warfare there also, except I could do it at any level. I like PvP if it is done right. Ganking a low level is not PvP. That is griefing. You should only be able to kill those that want to fight you, or else you won't get a challenge out of it and the challenge is why a lot of PvPers play.
My Ideal game would have FFA PvP though believe it or not, but there would be strict penalties for killing someone lower than you. I hope this clears some of the misconceptions you have of me up.
Temple Knight is what you played?
no wonder you hated the game.. and yes.. that class is not wanted at all in groups.
hopefully they'll be more viable in c5

lol 4-5 months to hit 40? I hit level 50 in 2 weeks...
In lineage II you realy have to train "smart". For example, you can't go around just spending all of your money on potions expecting to make it back later. If you are doing this yourself you should be ready for some hard times where you may have to sit a bit. However, I say training "smart" because there are just some places that are better for players.
For example, once you hit the low-mid 20's I suggest the zombies in the ruins of despair if you are a melee type class. These zombies give a ton of xp for their level, so you will level up fast as hell on therm.
As a mage, always stick to targets you can 1 or 2 shot. lvl 30-40 is a bit hard on a mage, but if you fight smart it should be fairly easy.
The community in the game is everything a PvP oreinted game could want. Plenty of trash talking, that's what. There is a lot of drama that goes through in all of the PvP, and it's great. Yeah there are plenty of "nice" players as well, and a lot of people may be willing to help you. However, just on the opposite side there are plenty of ruthless players.
EDIT: Don't see how you didn't get into raids as a human knight. They are the best tanks for a raid. You realy need to get to 24 at least though for hate.
ya I totally agree. theres a lot of issues I have with class balancing and finding groups in L2. I wasnt trying to make excuses for the game
hell the majority of the time all you need are nukers and healers. may want to check out c5 though, there doing a lot of balancing with tanks

Your right, sorry (bad torak, bad)

That would be cool. L2 is about as close as you can get now - a - days. Its nowhere near perfect but for me it beats playing games where the freedom is totally stripped from you. (gee George can ya go kill me 10 rabbits?)
Again, sorry about the smartass reply eariler this week....
You could say that about DAoC......and WoW and............and............and..........
Almost all MMO's are dependent on their endgame unfortunately.
Its to bad ALL designers feel we need to grind through hours and hours of dull repetitive task until we get to do something interesting...in ALL MMO's.
When you find a decent MMO that avoids this, let us know.
Did you ever play DAoC back in the old days? (pre-ToA) The grind was HIDIOUS! The XP loss for a death was HORRIBLE, Im not talking 5-7% but double digits, an XP hit that literally set you back hours if not days! DAoC was THE definition of tedious, repetitive, mind numbing horrible grind. On top of it, it was continuously nerfed. Ah the good old days. I played for 1 year. L2 is a childs grind game compared to the old days of DAoC back when there where only like 4 MMO's on the market........all of them HORRIBLE, go stand in the corner and kill the same mob for hours grinders!!!!
If at first you don't succeed, maybe skydiving isn't for you.
IMHO do play it, but be fore-warned that this is most probs one of the most corrupt MMO's going, as long as u find a nice group of ppl to play with you will do fine!
EBAY is for LOSERS, L2Walker is too!!
GF PuppyRawr (L33T Cheats)
Where's Playa at?
hope this helped
I get why people don't have the patience to grind up the class the want, it's a question design choice to be sure, but the game really does open up to after level 40. For example, my main' a Bladedancer, the first skill I got at level 40 was one of, if not the most, useful Bladedancer skills. Even at level 40 I was now very useful to a raid party or pvp party at any level. Even max level character would greatly benefit from the skill.
So if someone like certain things about L2 but the grind or character advancement is bugging them, I'd encourage them to try to stick it out until level 40 play for a bit at that level, you should be able to find a clan easily, and see if you're having fun. If you're level 40 something and the grind or whatever else is bothering you then L2 just isn't the game for you.
Whoa... wait a minute. ThoughI don't doubt you might have hit 50 in two weeks Nadril, that is not the norm. Without top equipment and a lot of time and money I don't see how one would do it.
Also, depending on when that person played, in Prelude/C1, I don't know of anyone who played a couple of weeks and hit 50. maybe 2 months or so.
For beginning players they do need to know that there is a bit of a grind. It's easier now but it still is a grind.
But 2 weeks? That is rare.

I didn't have anything special that others didn't, and I didn't even play (that) long. (as far as training goes).
Case in point, one of my guildies girlfriend just started playing. She is complelty new to the game, and just has him helping her with money a bit. (enough for gear). She is level 30 now and has been playing for 3 days! (granted now, she is a girl and has buffers following her around 24/7, hah!)
My point is, is it's possible. The game is not this horrible, crazy ass grind like it used to be. It gets harder, yeah, but it's much different than it was in Prelude/C1.
And 2 weeks isn't "that" rare anymore.
