Hola all. I played the L2 beta and was disapointed in the limited avatar creation options. Has this changed any? If not, what about armor sets? Are there enough in the game to allow for a good deal of creativity? Lastly, is this game too far along to join it at a newbie level?
Thanks in advance for your help and advice!

Unlike WoW, where the raiders have gone too far and you have to wait for a new server,
you can always join L2. It might be pretty damn hard at first, but if you can stick with it,
you can pretty much catch up.

Welcome to L2. The game has zero creativity, I assume it is because there are many times where there are over 100 players in a small location and they do not want lag so everyone looks the same. I can understand it to some degree, for me personally, I play on a crappy laptop, i know people who can run 4 L2's at the same time on their desktop, so I assume it shouldn't be a problem for most people.
One thing they could do is to make an option. You can choose no custom option or high custom option. If you have a good computer then you will see a lot of customizaiton if you have a piece of crap then it will default to the current banal crap they have now.
Of course NCsoft prefers to make 8-9 mediocre games instead of one awesome game.
In terms of being behind everyone, I know a friend who leveled like a maniac.
1-20 = 1 day
20-40 = 3 days
40-52 = 8 days
53-61 =8 days
Pretty much i am pretty sure he started a character sometime this month and it is lvl 61. It's a warcryer. Then again he doesn't believe in sleep.
Either way, in like 3-4 weeks he's lvl 61 which is A grade. I've been playing 2 months and I just hit 61. Then again it wasn't his first character, so he had a lot of advantages.
The game is a lot of fun if you make it fun. Be patient as it is a very time consuming and expensive game. I suggest you read up on the manor system and seeding and if you are going to remain legit, as in not ebay, then you may want to consider making a scavenger dwarf as it will help you get a lot of money.
Seeding + spoiling = big money
I've been playing for 2 months and I just discovered seeding. It is great. Of course read up on it before y ou waste money. I tried seeding without reading too much and i coudlnt' get it to work because i didn't read it properly. Then 50 levels later i see the benefits. I'd be so much richer if i wasn't an idiot at first.
If you're going to ebay, then you'll skip half the fun if not more.
In short the game is wholistically based on money as just existing in the game essentially drains of you cash. It is good in a sense as it adds another element into the game but at times it can suppressive. At least when I can afford my gear, it'll mean something.
If you need help on making money and what you can do, let me know, I love making money legitimately.
on to armor sets, they're great if the botters/ebayers didn't price gouge on the helmets. Friggin 3 pieces of A grade not including helm is like 1/2 to 1/3 the price of the helm. Full A grade armor sets range from 170m to 300m on HIndemith.
One thing I just noticed is that if you go to www.l2wh.com it gives you prices of recent postings, so you can get an idea of pricing. I got lucky, Hindemith is somewhat affordable for those who are legit. Other servers the prices are double if not triple some things that are on hindemith. Then again, with higher demand, spoiling/seeding raises prices dramatically and allows players to make more money that way, so in the end it somewhat balances.

I hope you don't mind but I will throw a few cents in...
Are you using the manor system to make money or are you just hunting?
HAve you been working the market? You know, looking and buying stuff at a lower cost then reselling it higher?
Have you met up with anyone yet? Have you found any guilds or contacts or people you normally group with?
Here are a few very basic tips...
*L2 is about 95% community based. If you try to lone wolf it, you are going to fail miserably. The entire game revolves around guilds. so ....make some friends. Simple as that.
*Read the manor system
http://lineage2.stratics.com/content/features/manorsystem/
This will help.
*You will need to take some time and play merchant. Browse the market and look for deals. Then resell higher.
*Do the "Seven Signs" quest......its basically free weapon upgrades. go read how it works.

From what I understand, people are making money on the current event. (I'm not playing L2 right now) Events can be real gold mines if you read up on them and sell the stuff.
L2 is actually a very easy game to make money in, it just takes time and patience and a little thought.
Hey Torak do you mind sending that info to my Advice Page It will really help future wanna be members and current members to. If you want you can check it out before you post it on. I am asking you permission.

hey cryomatrix, i'm a lvl45 SK and i'm still having a hard time seeding, i've searched all over the sites but really cant get a decent explanation for the manor system. as of now i've 250 chilly cobol sitting in my inventory for the past month and i've tried selling them all over the place but have been unsuccessful it seems like anytime i log on and try selling them in different towns, to the manor guy npc, he doesnt want to buy them back. any help to what i'm doing wrong or any sites about this, the help will be greatly appreciated.
- edit - nvm i looked at the url's provided in this thread. thanks much.
they`s not much avatar options but at least you can change your hair style, color or face in the game ...
at Ng, they`s only 1 Top gear for Heavry, Light and kinda 2 for Robes,
then at D grade theys 1 top Heavry everyone uses and 2 diffrenet Light armor`s everyone uses 1 cheap, and 1 exspensive and 2 Robe styles everyone uses, 1 offensive and 1 defensive...
then C grade they`s mostly 2 Heavry armors being used, 3 differenet light`s or 3 Diffrenet Robes...
everyone mostly use´s top quailty off course they`s other then the one i mentioned, you can go to offical lineage2 site and check the looks off a character in diffrenet Armors, or Set armors...
at B grade they`s 4 diffrenet Set´s off everything but mostly everyone uses the same, execept the few that likes to stand out
then A grade they`s 4 diffrenet Set`s again but are highy costly
and S grade it`s only 1 for each Heavry, Light, Robe armors, but are almost imposibbel to afford...
in C5, they adding more Armor Set`s for the later grade`s...
but no it`s not to late to start the game is sooooooooooo much esaier now then ever to start up cause off Seeding, and the new newbie buffs (they not really that good anyway it`s all about seeding .
you might have a hard time to find groups at the lower lvls, and if you dont have good enof gear; but if you seed that`s not gonna be a problem before C and B grade lvls...
Cool, Do you mind me asking. What else did they add?

read this and you will find lots of handful tips which will hellp you alot.
Good luck.
If you have people that can help you with adena, then I would recommend spamming shots. You will level much more quickly because you can hunt in areas that you normal cant without shots and get more xp. Like I said, you need adena.
Getting parties is not like it was in C1 or C2, it can take awhile.
