Sort of a combination of the last couple, I love being able to log on and be a completely different person. It's always cool to log into a game and be unique, interaction tends to be based on first impressions so being able to create something according to your style is important. Also just the fact that is something to do other than work and school that isn't boring.
At 40 (this year) I have to resign myself to the fact that Im a sad, habitual escapist.
I fell in love with all manner of escapism at probably 10 years old when I read The Hobbit for the first time. I just found myself living the book as much as reading it. I made the inevitable transition to table top RPG's like GURPS, Champions, Traveller 2000, D&D etc etc.
Then came computers and MUDS and graphics and RPG's and then came..............UO
6 years later I emerged from UO lol....
Ive BETAd basically everything, currently playing WoW and still having fun.
Looking forward to Vanguard and Age of Conan
Right now MMO's offer me the best available form of escapism that doesnt involve anything illegal
The obsession continues

Cheaper than buying multiple $50 single player games a month.

To me, an MMO isn't about having the strongest character, or Getting to the End, it's abot being a totally new person and meeting new people, and escape from our reality into the games reality, I like to live as my character.

I used to think this way too. It's actually much more satisfying to play through a good rpg and be rewarded with an ending than mindlessly living in a virtual world. It's like watching movies. Also gets to hang out with friends and live in the real world.
I like to explore. I still play Muds. I enjoy trying to figure out how to get somewhere or do something. I've tried so many MMOs, but most either get boring after a few hours of play time or get boring when you get to the end game (like WoW).
I don't play to group with 39 people 6+ hours/5 times per week to get loot.

MMORPG is a nice way to do some adventuring. Even if you're going on a solojourney you still got the option of teaming up with other players.
I guess I play for exploration, but in some ways I play to maximize my character, otherwise I wouldn't search the world for treasure ^_^
