No Profanities, or Drinking??? Hows that staying true to the hyborian vision! You name me a barbarian that doesnt drink and curse! Oh and drinking = drugs, so drugs too!
Wow the crowd that this game is attracting with it's Mature rating is making me think that sticking to a Teen rating will have a higher maturity level of players than having a Mature rating.
This is hilarious.

is that quote from before it became a vista launch game ? and i'd be quite interested to see what type of "influence" MS has on the finished content.
Don't act like you're so sophisticated and "mature". If you were so mature you would be spending your free time in a more productive manner such as planting a tree, volunteering, or helping out society somehow. If you play MMORPG's, you are just as immature as the 14 yearold who buys WOW at Walmart. If you waste hours a day staring at the computer screen, pretending you're a wizard, fighting dragons and chatting with you're "fake online friends", you are a degenerate loser......and not mature.
And I admit I am not mature. I am a lazy scumbag who wastes many hours of his life at the computer every day! I want video games to have naked girls and sex and drugs, because I think they're cool. I'm 25 and I'm immmature. So what?

Oh i see, Well i guess im not a degenerate loser! I dont spend hours a day staring at a computer screen, pretending im a wizard, fighting dragons and chatting with my fake online friends!
I think while it would suit the setting it would be pretty crass and seedy to basically include a sex mini-game in with the game. And in reality even if it does suit the setting... how many people playing pen and paper games which have setting like this COULD go and do weird seedy stuff... but don't because it is not fun and is just kinda sad and lame beyond a certain point. Seriously dude, just get some confidence and go down to a bar and pwn up some babes... it ain't that hard .
Young-undersexed-gamer: "I want to see virtual sex with toons in this seedy adult-oriented game" Young-sexed-gamer: "Grow up man! You need to get out and live more." Bored-middleaged-man: "All these MMOs are the same; when is somebody going to do something different?" Game-dev-promoter: "So seedy or not? Looks like it's 2 to 1 in favor of pimping and brothels. We just want to make money."
Seems like a clear choice to me. The only reason to NOT have virtual brothels is the fear of getting into trouble. They definately SHOULD make the most sinful looking, debase, sex-centered game possible. And if they are somewhat smart, I think they will go as far in that direction as they can.

That would keep out alot of kiddies! Parents dont usually care about or violence. (except for those lame people trying to get video games banned) Anyway, Of all the people i know that have children i'd say 80% of them wont care if there children(Young Teenagers) Are playing a violent video game, Cussing seems to be a different topic though. As long as the cussing isnt to severe, they wouldnt care too much. But if they were dropping F-Bombs left and right then alot of parents would say NO!. And just forget about nudity, I dont know any parents that would let a young teenager play a game with nudity in it. (I mean of course there are some who would) But i dont know any. (at least i dont think i do.)
Actually now that i think of it, its more of a reason for them to not have nudity in game. Cause like i said parents dont care so much about violence, as they do nudity.(Nudity would prevent alot of underage subscribers) We'll just have to wait and see.

I think i agree with everything you are saying here. Parents in America are generally blind to violence, slightly censorous of language, and completely protective on keeping the all powerfull nipple hidden from view.
However, it comes back to where AoC will fit in the entire MMO market. If they just do more of the same, going after the same market, then they will be in the bucket with WoW, WAR, etc. Fighting for the teenagers. The novel idea and real possibility though, is to capture NEW mmo players. Blizz brought in a bunch of new people to MMOs with it's low graphics requirement, and existing blizz.net playerbase. What is AoC going to do? There are suprisingly a large number of players in their 20s that play these games. They are "social" and lead to new relationships/friendships etc. What can AoC do to be really different and capture new players, NOT go after the existing teenager playerbase playing wow etc? They can go adult-oriented! Pull players in their 20s from the existing MMOs that will feel kiddy-like in comparison, as well as maybe get some new people who are just into FPS or who don't game at all....
But if AoC focuses on getting teenagers to play their game, trying to pass under the radar of parental censorship, then they will be just more of the same old same old... and be nothing special really.
TBH with the fact they have the M rating you would think that they would be pushing the boundaries as far as that allows them too. It hardly hurt the GTA series so I don't see why it would do any harm to this game either?

Well, i do hope they try to appeal to the older crowd(20's+) I too fall under this category. The only draw back would be that, they dont bite. Teenagers have all the time, and there parents money to waste on video games. Where as adults, well they have some free time, all depends on the job i guess. But its alot harder to draw adults to a game. Alot see gaming as a waste of time, Maybe its cause there havnt been any games that have appealed to there particular taste! I guess they would be taking a risk in trying to pull in the older crowd. I think so far they are going about it in the right way. With the M rating, the stunning graphics, Brutal combat, and what seems to be really addicting gameplay. I'd really like to see them pull that off, and bring in a entirely different generation of gamers! :P
I personally think everyone should play video games. How is something fun, a waste of time? Sure there are other things you could be doing, But what makes that better then video games?

That's true. But the dilemma is that in the world of FFXI, Im a leader and respected by basically everyone and I have the ultimate equipment, but in real life nobody knows who I am. In FFXI people bow in front of me, but in real life basically everyone, including 711 cashiers, treats me like crap.
*smacks his forehead*
If you put half as much effort into your real life as you did getting uber gear in an MMO you wouldn't have this problem.

Originally posted by headhigh I hope there will be strip clubs, brothels, or prostitutes in this game. The REAL Conan would fight and loot gold all day, then drink and bang girls at night.
IF they did that, all the low life scumbags would log on just to see some animation of a naked girl......man, the real thing is so much better. Here is a recipie: Get a life, then a wife, and there u go, treat her right and you will get the real thing every night, for the rest of your life.

Thats one thing i never understood. im 26 years old and have a kid etc but i could never understand why nudity is so looked down upon esp in games. Lets chop this guys head off. "Sweet, dad you see that?" Lets give this game a "teen" rating b/c of that. Oh no, Boobs! ADULT ONLY, because none of these teens are seeing any boobs or having sex in our perfect society!!!!
But sense these kids will either never (hopfully) see a guys head get chopped off by a sword lets lower the rating, sense its not as "real"? Oh snap theres a nude girl in the game give it adult rating because im sure none of the kids out there ever seen a naked women and probably never will /sarcasmn off.
Soooo... Killing stuff and violance = teenish, because teens see it so often in real life
Naked people = adult. because im sure its rarly seen.
I dont get it either, but hey whatever.... So long as i still get to cut heads off, and run people through with my sword. I mean... thats all that really matters, right?
So, the question is, will Age of Conan be an on line game, or an online sex simulator. Strangely, I play "heroic fantasy" games for the adventure part, not for statisfying my sexual appetites. Well, we'll see - but I begin to fear this game will be devastated by the expectations of the crowd of "hey, it's a For Mature game, let's play for sex" that seems attracted to it... In game, books and films, adding too much sex attracts a new public, but kills the interest of the "first target" of the story. Age of Brothel in development?
