Gate to Heavens: A very good game indeed

I have just started playing it, and so far it is really good.  The lag can get annoying, but what MMORPG doesn't have annoying lag time these days.  GTH has a good story (wish they had proofread the translation) and the characters are very good.  The game promotes teamwork and friendship among players.  A group of veterans helped me out when I got swamped by monsters and they didn't ask for anything in return.  A lot of people have said that the game has problems with hackers and hacked items, but I have looked around, and games like Everquest I & II, World of Warcraft, Star Wars Galaxies, and Final Fantasy XI have had their share of hackers and hacked items before.

The music and sounds are really good. The music resembles something from a medieval fair or the Lord of the Rings movies, and helps set the mood for the entire game.  The sounds are really good, although they are often the same.

While many would think that just four character choices is bad, it isn't in this game.  GTH allows players to customize their characters via their skills, sort of like Diablo II.  Each basic character can choose between two different advanced classes that are different from each other.  For example, the Occult Knight has the option of becoming a Knight of Devotion or a Wandering Knight.  The Knight of Devotion is skilled in fighting with one-handed swords, while the Wandering Knight focuses on two-handed swords.  Each advanced class has ups and downs.  Using the same example, the Knight of Devotion has a high defense but low offense, while the Wandering Knight has a high offense but low defense.  This type of class system makes the player think ahead when leveling ("Should I raise my skill in bows or daggers?  What kind of character do I want to be?")  This is something that too many players very often forget, especially in games that have lots of choices.  By having a small number of characters to play, GTH helps players to realize that a good warrior/mage/archer/whatever always thinks ahead.

Another good point about this game is that it is FREE.  Having to pay to play is the number one thing that keeps me from playing MMORPGs.  I'll play the trials, but once my trial is finished, I no longer play the game, even if I enjoyed the game a great deal.  While there are some flaws with the game, such as the long download time to even get the game and the lack of more character customization options/features, the game is very good.

Do the rest of you agree?

The game is good, and the players are friendly, even on the forums.

Hackers are a problem.  I make it a habit to avoid items that are dropped by other players.  I never drop items.  I always sell them, even if I don't earn money from them.  Also, I read the website for help and other things.

It has some good graphics, but nothing to write home about.

Its a lot of fun, I played it at release. Great feel to the combat and powerful classes. Only problem was lack of end-game content, people were jus grinding to pass time and then left when they ran out of time.
