Need all expansion packs to play?

I was think about getting FFXI and trying it out. I can get the game with its first two expansion packs for $20.00. But I don't feel like paying the extra $30.00 on the new expansion pack. So can FFXI run without the new expansion pack?

There isn't even much to do in the new expansion if you're below level 30. If you like the game and keep playing, eventually you'll need to buy it (for one thing, many of the current higher-level exp sites are there), but you definitely don't need it straight off.

Which, like the old advanced jobs, you can't unlock until you're 30. It's about the first thing you'd be able to do with the expansion, too.
