A newbs perspective...SoR FEELS like AC

senejsenej Member UncommonPosts: 6

After playing for the past two days this game to me feels like Asherons Call, my first MMORPG and a classic first gen game.

The diffrences in the two are numerous but it is a feeling I get when I play SoR.  I can not put a finger on it exactly but this is what I feel when I play.  Let me say for me it is a very good thing.  Plus it harkens me back to my SWG days of open-endedness.

I have been reading numerous posts here and on the official site.  I realize that the Island I am becomming accustomed to is not the norm on the level of how the quests are given on the mainland.  But to me what I see is a trend for the future.  If it can be done for the starter island I can see the possibility of the quests eventually spreading into the mainlands.

Here is what I have seen in two days (Yes a short time but they have left some rather large impressions)

1.  A world that feels alive.  There is not a feeling of static sameness anywhere.  The sounds and the change of weather/time of day is spectullar.

2.  AI that feels alive.  I have not seen mobs act like this since SWG.  They are constantly walking up to me and just checking me out.  I will not discuss me running for my life the first time I cam across a carnivore hostile mob and it made a very rude noise then rushed me.  I got myself killed just because I stood there in amazement.  It really adds to the feeling that I am in a living world.

3.  The ability to do anything...really.  Not being slotted into a role forever unless I reroll a new class is very refreshing.

4.  Honest mature players.  Even in the newb zone people are helpful and seem very nice.  A very welcome change from the community of uber peen WoW kids I have become so used to.

There is much more that I have felt and noticed in playing and I think that soon I will be upgrading my account.  I do have a couple questions though.

What are the costs of mounts/packmounts/apartments?  Will it take me a month or more to be able to earn enough to purchase one?

I see the game is very RP centric, I have next to no knowledge about the lore of the game, how hard it is to find a guild that is active and helpful/understanding?

If I decide to make the leap into the game in full down the road what will be the cost to me?  I know the sub fee and how much it costs but is there a fee for the game itself or do I just upgrade and blammo I am GTG?

Thanks to any who answer and read this.  I look forward to getting out of work today and getting IG to play.  A feeling I have not felt in some time.

I can only agree with you how alive Atys feels.

An appartment is 1 million dapper, the cheapest packer is around 120k i think.
The money for a packer shouldnt be too hard to gather, and an appartment isnt very usefull, excpet for storing mats.

Most guilds are helpfull and understanding, I think. Hard to say which one you should join, and which one
you shouldnt, as a lot depends on your style of playing the game. (Are you more RP, more PVP, or both, are you a hunter or a crafter etc.)
Most important is to join a guild that suits you, and not to take the first invite you get, or the first guild that offers you a new armor.

The costs for the game are 15 euro a month, and there is no fee for the game itself. Also you wont need to download new parts, as the free trial IS the whole game, so you just need to sign up and you can go to the mainland.

    Hope that helps a bit.

That is the List of Guilds. Hard to tell which are active, you might just take a look at their websites (where available) and then ask around to see if they're still active, or try to contact them directly. Guilds are organized by faction/race (<- link), and level of RP is listed.

There is only the monthly subscription fee. You already have the full client software and there is no initial/setup fee.

It cannot be over emphasized how impotant it is too find the right guild for you, its the one thing that would make or break the game for you, the first step would be to find out the Guild leaders time zone as you will probably find most of the guild are probably on a simular time zone, if you choose the correct guild the game is funny and enjoyable, if you choose the wrong guild it would be a lonley grind, which would be a shame really as the game has so many enjoyable aspects.

Thanks all for the advice and discussion.  It is appreciated.

I agree wholeheartedly that a guild can make or break a game.  in my travels I have found that I truly enjoy a game more when there is people to share it with.  In AC I had a great guild and enjoyed the game immensly.  In SWG it was on again off again with guilds mainly cause of SO$ and the changes they made.  In COV/H I was never in a guild and found I could not get past the 30's even as a Mastermind.  I was mind numbingly bored.  In WoW I again hooked up with the guild from AC and had a blast.  It is truly the only thing keeping my subscription right now.  The people I know and share the game with.  I do not raid or like the battlefields.  I have 2 60's with another moving up past the 40's and have become burnt out.  So I decided to try SoR.

So far I am inpressed with how things work, sound and feel in SoR.  That part is easy.  Finding friends (All my mates are still in WoW) well that will be the hard part.

    Actually I don´t think so
One of the great assests to SoR is that the comunity is extremely freidly and welcomming.
Mind you, I don´t realy know about the international (Arispotle) Newbe Islands Comm and with so many time zones to deal with, there might just be times when there are less people Online to help you, or group with.
(And some may even be not able to part with rather strange behaviour they deem normal from other games experiences) But overall I´m absolutely sure that you WILL find friends in SoR.
