New expansion?!?  Is there even enough players left in DAoC to make an expansion for?

Don't get me wrong, I love this game and came back after I decided I needed a more casual experience than World of Warcraft had to offer.  I set up shop with a Heretic on the Gareth server, one of the most populated servers in the game, and I barely see that many people.  I've been playing on and off since January of this year and every time I come back, I find fewer and fewer people playing.  I'm beginning to wonder if Mythic isn't exagerating the server population numbers on the Herald.

I wish DAoC was still the game to play.  ToA and the release of WoW and EQ2 pretty much destroyed it.  If this game lasts another two years I will be surprised.  I find it amazing that they are investing time in a game that has so little life left in it.

Actually DAoC has plenty of people still playing.  Gareth server has north of 2k during peak hours and usually no less than 1k.

"Time.." I chuckled "I hold no secret to time, though it's mystery puzzles me. Deny it's existence and lie to myself not with hopes of a quickened pace."

Mythic isn't exaggerating, but the number of players on a server can be misleading since each server is divided into 3 realms.  At any given time, you're only aware of approximately 1/3 of the players on a regular server so it seems that there are many fewer players.

I agree with Dark Asylum.  2K is a lot of people if you are stuck in an elevator but when it comes to the online gaming crowds, it really isn't much.

Hopefully the EA deal will open up Mythic to more options than what they had as a small independant studio.  I have never played or puchased an EA product, but I hear that company is really bad.  If anything good come from it, I hope it gives Mythic more financial support to bring DAoC back to the market to become the online entity it once was because lets face it, the population of DAoC across all servers is not even close to what it used to be.

If i know EA correctly, they wont focus on DAoC at all. There is too much to be done to it, to make it more mainstream-material like. Therefor, EA will probaly just support Mythic with WAR, and any other MMORPG's they decide to make(Although, Mythic is developing WAR now, running DAoC, and is going to help with UO.. So we probaly wont see another mythic MMORPG for a while).
