Why do you specifically want to play a "black guy" in the 1930's. This post is stupid, it almost sounds like you are against playing a white guy some how.

Imagine if i had made a thread saying i want a "White 1900's MMORPG" i bet i would be seen as racist.

Because you need to learn some history. Playing as a black guy in the 1930's, and playing as a white guy in the 1930's, would be 2 totally different games.

Where in my post did i say it would be the same ? and where did i say anything about playing a white guy in the 1930s, i said 1900's quite a big time span with alot of different years to pick. Also for your info, i dont need to learn any history, i dont need it in my everyday life there for it is not necessary. Dont come on here and tell me what i NEED when you really have no clue.

I would also like to point out that your post didnt make sense anyway, my question was "why do you specifically want to play a black guy in the 1930's", your post started with "because you need to learn some history". So the guy want to play a black guy in the 1930's because i need to learn history, didnt realise i was such an influence. Maybe you where just answering a question that wasnt asked, in an attempt to sound smart ?

Thanks for only reading what you wanted to read.

Who said it would have to take place in the US? Pfft. As far as i'm aware, alot of african/middle eastern countries continued to use slaves for quite a few years.

Did you know it was common amongst african tribes to both use, and sell slaves of rivalry tribes? King Guezo, ruler of Dahomey, earned a LOT of money selling slaves from 1802-1852.

Why must anytime someone mention something that involves race, it MUST be racist, or reverse-racism, or "if the situation were reversed, I bet I would be seen as racist" these days?  Race isn't a bad thing.  If I said that I wanted to play a game where I was a pre-columbus Native American, would that make me racist?  Or simply interested in roleplaying a Native American?

    Chill out.

That would be cool a mmorpg in various eras. 1930s would be a good one, just like DDO(halflife mod forgotten name) is enjoyable for the wartime environments, as would that be for a mmorpg.

Im not racist, but i do feel that racism is unbalanced right now thanks to the governement. I mean its politically incorrect to say "black" board now (chalk board) but its perfectly fine for a white board to be called a white board. Another was in America you guys had to call black outs brown outs to be politically correct. It makes me wonder what will come next.

Anyway, i dont want to go on into detail about this as there are plenty of over sensitive people here who will accuse me of being somthing that im not (not directed at you in any way ladylore) so ill just leave it at that.

    Garrik

[EDIT] I realise that my blackout/brownout statement was incorrect, im not going to remove it in an attempt to hide my mistake, but i just thought id let all you guys who want to pick at it know that i do realise i was wrong on that matter. Im sure that made some of you (sadder) people feel great.

A blackout and a brownout aren't the same thing, so that has nothing to do with political correctness. A blackout is when your power is just plain out, due to, for instance, power lines being down. A brownout is when there's increased demand that causes lower voltage and resulting dimming of lights and the like. Sometimes when usage is very high, electric companies institute the dreaded rolling blackout, where they shut people off for a little while, and then shut other people off for a little while, etc., which usually happens when there are brownouts going on...

When I was in school, we used "blackboard" and "chalkboard" interchangeably, but "chalkboard" made more sense, since they were, in fact, green in our schools.

    Thanks for the info.

Blackboard still stands (they are black here) and im not going into further discussion about this subject.

This went downhill and off-topic fast. I guess Melendu can chalk this troll topic up as a resounding success.

  • ScarisScaris Member UncommonPosts: 5,332

Uh ya. I have never heard of blackboard not being called that because of politcal correctness. They were called a blackboard when they were black and that trickled still to the green ones that were in school when I was in school. It was interchangeable for me as well at the time.

As for blackouts and brownouts, umm you thought that was about political correctness???

The remote Net access for the local college here is Blackboard. I wonder if people are offended.

What would you do in a Depression era MMORPG anyway? I know my grandfather spent the Depression picking up coal along the railroad tracks to sell... He was a kid at the time... I wonder if you gain skill doing that, or if you just have to grind it out for the experience.

This shall remain open for the time being, but be warned; if you feel as if you should post something to any extent as a racial slur, you will be slapped with a ban immediately.  No warnings.

If you have nothing to contribute to this thread, then move on.

That's cool, I understand if you don't want to discuss it further.  I just worry though that racism is even more unbalanced in people's minds right now, on both sides of the fence.  Everybody is being overly sensitive about everything and nobody ever wants to discuss it, just keep it bottled up inside until they blow up over strange things, like what are chalkboards being called, for example.

    But anyways.  Take care.  :)

There could be an "Escape the Dustbowl" quest, where you leave a zone that looks remarkably like The Barrens (or Tattooine... hehe) and have to overcome great obstacles to get somewhere that things will grow. A quest most often undertaken by the Farmer class, no doubt.

    Hey, this idea has potential!

I could try to roleplay Langston Hughes. He was around in the 30s.
