Vanguard back on Most Anticipated List...

Despite my concerns as to the authenticity and validity of the MMORPG.com hype meters, Vanguard has returned to the top 7 again. Whether it's due to announcements about other games, new infoz about Vanguard, resurgence of fanboism, or a combination of all three isn't exactly clear.

Either way, I hope the hype isn't....well... undeserved.

It was fifth yestrday and has now dropped to sixth.  Now that the haters see it has re-emerged I am sure they will get organized and try to sink the ratings again.

All the hype for beta 3 the new announcements about the the new dp and endagme not being for raiders is what I would guess has fueled the rise.   People are starting to realize that Vanguard is not a game just for hardcore players but designed to reward all play styles whether its solo, crafting, diplomacy, group players, or raiders.  Although there are many people that hate the gamne and refuse to losten.  Whtehr its ebcause they hate SOE, hate EQ, hate pve designed games or whatever it might be.  Regardless of their reasons these people will keep printing statements that they know or should know is nto true.  What is quite ironic is there are plentry of reasons to legitimately critize Vanguard and be worried about its development but the haters never argue those reasons rather they just print the same sterotypes about the game over and over.

Which is why I disregard all non-statiscal surveys...the Republicans do a poll and the result is everyone likes Bush, the Democrats do a poll, and the result is everyone likes Hilary, American Idol does a poll, and...well...who cares. The proof is when the game is released.

Yeah, but it is still fun to watch and see where things lie- projections are important for planning.  Your example shows political parties or their affliates running the polls, but MMORPG.com is a nutral entity, so they shouldn't be that far off.  When people get mad about something, it is clearly seen on this site (like the $OE "issue").

Don't get me wrong here.  I am NOT saying the hype meter is right or wrong and that you should place bets based on its information alone, but rather it does show (at least a small amount of: perhaps not an entirely accurate) trend with those using MMORPG.com.

Already off the list and this thread was created yesterday.  The haters rally fast.  It's still perplexing to see the fervor with which people crusade against this game.  The game has it issues to overcome, and the possibility of failure exists as it does in any project.

When I see an upcoming game I really don't like I usually just don't pay it much attention.  That seems to not be the case for those who find Vanguard not catered to their tastes.  It's strange.

As mentioned countless times, the hype meters on this or any other site don't carry much credibility.  They're anecdotal at best, just a way to kill time before a game is released.  I mean DnL was a top 7 fixture iirc, which pretty much discredits any correlation between hype meters and game success.

What matters more than the number the game is rated is the number of Votes.  Vanguard has the most votes of any game in development on this site.  People care one way or the other.  When it comes to selling the game no one will care what MMORPG.com's ratings were.  What will matter is the game fun, polished and a quality game.  If the game is good it well a ton of copies.  If its bad it will be a niche game only for fanboys like me.  The mere fact that Vanguard has generated such passion and so many votes is all that Sigil can ask.  People know about the game and are anticipating its release whether they like it or hate it.  Word of mouth will spread fast once beta is opened up to a large amount of players and the reputation from its open beta will likley determine its success not the rating here.

But that being said I am constantly amazed at the hate and passion of the haters and how quickly they rally to sink this games ratings.

Well hype meters are pretty useless to begin with. In all reality it was a mad dash rally to bump the hype up by the vanbois. They all got their panties in such a wad at the mere thought vg wasnt on the worthless hype list they came charging forward. It went from a couple hundred hype votes to over 3k lol.

I would disagree if you have looked at the hype meter Vanguard has always had the most votes of any game on this list by far.  The rating dropped whern the SOE anouncement hit from a 7.2 to a 6.5 and it has slowly inched its way up since.  It has not suddenly risen it has been a gradual process.  But with the the hype of Beta 3 and the excitement of the new death penalty and endgame system for everyone the game has risen above the haters.

Oh it definitely fell off the list because of the $oe announcement. The point being, a couple weeks after the announcement there were only a few hundred votes. The rallying cry went out and now its back on the list with over 3k votes. I find it amusing that the vanbois are so worried about something as worthless as a hype meter that they have to come in droves to bring it back up.

Not true there have been 2000 votes for Vanguard for over 6 months now.  Vanguard has had the most votes of any game on the list for a long time.

You were mistaken.  I have watched the Vnaguard rating for years now and it has had not only the most amount of votes for years but had over 2000 votes for a long time.

Won't expect to see a valid rating until we reach the end of Beta 3.

At Betas 4 and 5 the game will be nearly complete so then people can "rate" away -- with a bit more validity than just cursing at SOE a dozen times per post.

I'll confess my hype is a 10, not because I don't have concerns about how successful it is, but because out of the 2 or 3 games that have got my attention, Vanguard is on top of those.

And so, AoC has a 7 from me and WAR has a 5
