Repetition?

I've played Planetside before, I know that it's a totally different that what WAR is going to be, but it is still based on the same thing at end game: Take over the enemies bases and capital city (sort of). After months and months of back and forth back and forth you start wondering, what the hell is the point? Im hoping this doesn't happen in WAR end game when you're taking over the capital city? What do you gain from it? How is it different than all the other 1000000 times we have done in the past year?

EDIT: How long will a capital city take to capture? Will it take hours, days or weeks, or even months to reach the capital city? (I know you guys don't know since its months away from release)

Here is what I understand based on several previews

    *
    |
    4
    |
    4
    |
    4
    |
    *

The * = A capital city whereas the area marked with 4's represent zones. These zones are capturable and are what each side are jockeying for based on each side's performance. When one side captures all 3 zones, then a captial city may be raided. How long this can take, I have not a single clue. In theory that can last months on end if both sides put up a fight on a specific area.

I understand how this can get old even afer the first initial captiral city raid, this is why after that magic wears off I want to see what Mythic has in store for content after launch.

Planetside never really got boring for me.  Enjoy the journey and don't worry too much about the destination.  Look at games like CounterStrike, by your logic there is no point to it yet people play the heck out of it.

If the fighting is fun, who needs to gain anything from it?  As long as everyone gains a good time then its successful.

the real question here is, Razara, what do you want?

Yes, there will be repetitions. yes, the capital city will be sacked hundreds of time as will region change hands.

So what? What you are wanting from such a game? What is this final purpose that is seemingly missing?

Realize anything you put in the game, eventually, will lead to repetition. land changes hand, keep get conquered and freed and so on.

    So.... what do you propose?

Its lacking in depth. Repetition usually makes up for whatever is missing. It seems like war is doing what wow did, add something that'll take months to accomplish this way if they want to accomplish anything in the game they'll have to buy it for 6 months+.

the simplest answer: its a MMO - you arnt the hero, that safe the whole world from the evil demon from some twisted nether dimension.

have you ever seen a MMO WITHOUT repetition? i sure havent.. everything you do will always be repetition: killing monsters, making armors, "lvling".
even single player games have such things.
instead of realizing this, you could be having fun in the game beating up other players, or monsters.

its all the negative stuff that make games dull, but if you dont see them for yourself, the game wont be boring :)

I highly doubt it will take 6 months to reach the enemies capital. My guess is a few weeks, a month at most maybe. But then again: What do you mean by accomplishing? If each map is made up of several keeps and towers(Ala RvR, DAoC), taking one of those points is an accomplishment in it self.

But also, keep in mind - There will be 3 of these Capital - Capital maps. One, with dwarfs and Orcs & Goblins, one with Empire and Chaos, and one with High Elfs and Dark elfs. You decide where you want to fight. This alone gives you some choice, where you want to go. Now, add in that there will also be skirmishes(2 groups of players that fight a small battle, think Battlegrounds from WoW, but probaly without the CTF like WSG, or the resource fest of AB), and battlegrounds(Battlegrounds in DAoC was an 'instance', where everyone with level xx and xx could join. Didn't matter if one of the factions had 100's in, while the other only had 1. The battleground is a never ending battle.. Take Thid, for example. Capture the keep. This was done, by first creating a whole in the wall with a treb, then smashing down the gate with a ram, and finaly killing Chieftress Thid.. Now the keep is yours - DEFEND IT), which should at plenty of PvP fun.

I'm currently playing World War II Online. One big map, same thing over and over - Just a bit different layout. But you know what? I enjoy it. Cause the human mind is unpredictable, so there will ALWAYS happen something unexpected, unlike an raid encounter in WoW.

Look at the PvP in WoW. The PvP in that game to the core is fun (can be argued), but most people PvPed in that game for the honor and rank advancement. Especially since a game like WoW puts an emphasis on gear, trying to advance was the main reason people did engage in PvP. Most players want to be rewarded, ever since the earliest games players wanted to play for some sort of reward, be it be say beating another player or personal satisfaction, players always will want some reward (gain something) from doing anything in the game.

Although I do agree with everyone else, games will eventually be repetitive, which then depends on if the player is still having fun or if new content can be placed to keep the game fresh.
