Lord of the Rings Online

I've been a member of the LotRO forums for a while now then I heard about the contest that mmorpg.com was having to give away beta spots and just had to join. I'd like to just thank Turbine and mmorpg.com... and I'd also like to ask if anyone else from the LotRO community is active on the forums here.

Blue Coyote of the RoA kinship here... if that means anything to you. I'm not sure if I recognize your username.

  • NexrusNexrus Member Posts: 10

Nope, I've never heard of the name... or the kinship - But then again I usually read instead of post and I don't follow the kinships as closely as I should. Anyhow, helllo!

I beg to differ, i think if it was done right, it could draw in alot of people who are not particulary interested in Lotr :D

Not sure how i feel about it yet, i will keep one eye on it, and when its out, perhaps give the trial a shot :D

I didn't know there were people out there that weren't LOTR fans. If there are they should be round up and put on some island far far away

    Hahaha Amen.

Personally, whether you're a fan of the LOTR series or not, I still think this game is going to be fantastic, you probably just won't be able to be on the RP side as much, considering you won't know much of the Lore or the Background of some of the characters. It's still going to have amazing gameplay and features.

I am from the boards also. I do more reading than posting though. I will post to answer questions every once in a while but I don't like to spam.

I have nothing agains LOTR but this so called MMORPG seems to linear, I bet it'll have less tilt than Guild Wars which comes without a monthly fee.

If I get my hands on a beta/open beta account or maybe trial I might give it a shot just because I grew up with Tolkien but I won't pay a monthly fee ^^.

Pardon my French, but you just pulled that little analogy out of your ass. You have no idea whether LOTRO is "too linear" or not.

Too linear? I would have to guess that you aren't informed as how this game is not based on the same timeline as the books/movies. For being a so-called Tolkien fan you obviously didn't take the time to read the website, or you'd not have drawn those conclusions.

To be a LOTR game you need to draw from the history, but that does not mean its going to be an online version of the books/movies. Incidentally, if you're a Tolkien fan I bet you went to see the movies but I'm not sure why...since you'd have already read the books and know what to expect. Now that's linear.

    Some people...

I loved the lord of the rings movie, but i'm not gonna go begging to test the game.I never could see the point in begging to play.If they were paying me to play, then i guess begging would be an option, but if they expect to draw my cashola in the future,no way on earth am i gonna beg. They should have a server or three and limit the players online,or limit the total hours a day each player can stay on.This is a helluva lot smarter as the game will reach ALOT more people willing to give it a look see.Nobody should cry after getting booted from a beta test, say after 4 hours. There is always the next day and the SOLE purpose of a test is just that>>>to test the game, not take part like its P2p time....oh well if i don't get to beta test it,i guarantee i won't be forking out any money.

Okay... how would one beg to play the game? Entering in a contest or sending in a beta application isn't really begging so you're going to have to better explain what you mean.  As for the server or three idea, I don't really get that.. you're saying they'd draw more people in by having only three servers and they also limit your play time, because I really wouldn't like that (and I'll bet other people wouldnt like that either).

Yeah, this give away is just awesome!!

I hope i will get a spot to the beta.

  • sir-animasir-anima Member Posts: 210
TR is not bad ( the movies i mean in this case) But this game looks really good in my eyes , so i also entered the contest . I think a hole lot of people did so a chance of winning is very small in this case !  but i wish you all good luck then and myself also ofcouse but that is a little stupid isn't it :p .

Anyway hope this game is gonne make it with the top !

I realy liked the movies and was looking forward to this game, but after seeing the gameplay trailer i was kinda dissapointed. The combat looks kinda slow and boring, i just hope i can get into the beta to see it myself.

  • DurienDurien Member Posts: 2
Dunno If I'll play it or not.  But I'm keeping an eye on it.  It could turn out to be good.

  • WizardryWizardry Member LegendaryPosts: 19,332

Very simple to understand i shouldn't have to explain.Would you still be singing the same tune if you didn't get to test it at all?No i never said 3 servers ,i said it could be three as an example,it could be as many as they need if that need be.Like i said so many people seem to think there in P2p mode if they do get in.Well there not,and the purpose of a test server is to test for problems and bugs..NOTHING more. Why on  earth would you cry if your playtime on a test server was limited?repeat>>>TEST TEST NOT p2p.It should reach as many players with as many different computers and video cards,so they can get the best possible feedback before the game goes gold. They always do things like server load also,so it's not about YOU when you get in ,it's about the GAME that people cry about when it releases fulla bugs.

The same people that tell me not to rant about something are the same players who cry after launch and all the bugs are still there or they cant login into game, this is a fact i see it all too often.Search any forum, tons of players are always dissapointed after trying a game ,they never got to test before buying it.I don't blame anyone for being dissapointed afterwards, but at the same time it's your fault for paying before trying it.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

I would test the game but purchase i dont know the one stumbling block for me is no pvp for me the pvp is the be all and end all and when pvp is done right (See DAoC) it is the most intense moment in mmorpg game play.

This is off course my opinion along :P
