From SWG to ??

I played SWG ever since the first day it released. It has lot of bugs at that time ( while some of the bugs are still around now), while ppl still enjoyed playing it a lot. As mature game players we understand a big project like that
will have bugs to be fixed and some of them might take long.

Everything was sweet by then, the great crafting and harvesting system, beast taming, missions,  and the  AT-STs .
I think the biggest thing SOE has done wrong was by putting Jedi into the game.
As some posts have suggested, its a character that make the game unbalanced.
Seriously if we really want to play Jedi we would have played other Star War games

Anyway I left after playing it for 2 years with many of the others, all the nerfing and stuff pretty much indicating SOE don give a shxt about the responses of the players.

These days I am just playing smaller online games but surely I still look for another game that has that much content as SWG.
I look at the game listing but can't find any new ones that are going to be similar to that
U guys think there will be another game like that in the future ?

I heard EVE is good also but isn't it a bit old by now.
oh yeah for the ppl still playing and think what I said is crxp, u have ur belief and I won't argue with that.

Have you considered The Saga of Ryzom? Quite a few ex-SWG'ers has come to stay in Ryzom, due to the crafting system and harvesting. I'm sure you'll miss many features from SWG but find many other nice things in Ryzom. The trial is free and not time limited

Eve is the best game on the market right now.

Everything in Eve constantly evolves and although the graphics are nice right now they will get another overhaul next year with Windows Vista and DirectX. Take a look at the new trailer for an example. I see no reason why Eve cannot still look like a new game in years to come.

Check out 'No other destiny' for a peek at this 'old' game.

If you ever feel like trying SWG again, you have a free Vet trial available (provided your account was cancelled before the NGE) that gives you access to the whole game.  You activate it by installing the game and logging into Launchpad.

trials are nice to see if you want to further pursue a game
FIOS net makes it easier when you download the game in matter of a few min.

which after getting bored with WoW I played sooo many trials
SWG was the one that enjoyed most
so going to at very LEAST get me 15bucks out of it

To be honest nothing out there is really that good, Saga Of Ryzom is ok nothing special and you will get bored fast and its not like SWG contrary to people saying it is. Roma Victor is to put it nicely crap in its current state and is about 6 to 8 months away from being playable, nice idea but implemented poorly. WoW is polished lots of quests todo but once you get to 60 and you want to get anything worth while it either involves raiding with 40 people most nights of the week for 4 hours ,and bare in mind your not guaranteed to get anything out of it, also to be a success at pvp it will involve 12 to 16 hours of pvp per day to advance at a decent rate. Crafting sucks in WOW and WOW lacks depth unless you enjoy raiding you will get about 6 months of play out of it before you get bored. EQ2 is dull to be honest, and its owned and created by SOE so i would stay clear of it, played it for 6 months and got bored fast. Final Fantasy XI is boring again just a dull game. RF online is just boring again your left asking yourself whats the point. Guild Wars is ok for a free to play but again you get bored after a while. Dark and Light complete farce stay well away. Lineage 2 interesting at first then its just same old thing, get bored fast.  CIty of Heros/Villains good laugh at first looks nice, nice character diversity and skills but again your forced into FOTM templates and the missions get repetative very quickly as they are the same essentially.

In short at the moment if your looking for a game that offers you the same diversity, depth, crafting and community minus the dickweed devs then there isn't one that exists at the moment and won't be one for the forseeable future. Keeping my fingers crossed for Stargate and Star Trek but if either of those two lack a decent crafting system i'm staying away,  because if all you do is combat then eventually you will get bored you need another aspect in the game aswell to cater for everyone, much like SWG had.

Probably the most accurate run down of the state of the MMOs out there that I have read on these boards in a long while.

    Nice post.

Except he failed to mention any negitives about Eve Online. It is truely the best game out at the moment... even though they had severe lag for about an hour last night (It was corrected pretty quick) they made it funny saying they were sorry that they had not fed the hamsters, then a few moments later they said its all fixed and the hamsters were fed... I love CCP. Great code, wonderful game and devs with a real sense of humor.

    CCP This is for you!

Great post Fignar!  I feel the exact same.

I tried to get into Eve.  Its not a bad game, but I just could not get past having my Avatar be a spaceship.  I am having the same problem with Auto Assault.  You get to walk around a bit in town, but mostly your a truck, not a person.  Interacting with the community in-game is important to me, and trying to do an emote when your a spaceship or a truck is rather difficult.

    Can't agree more with you.

I have asked and been asked many times " are there going to be another game like this in 1 or 2 years?"

And guess we are all still waiting for some exciting news.
No sign from any of the big game makers so far.
