PvE vs. PvP in the realms of the Warhammer Universe

Forgive me if this has already been discussed but I have not seen any posts so I'll just be a jerk and completely assume it hasn't been. WAR is going to be a very PvP centric game with awesome RvR capabilities and I'm all for it, I love competing against other people in PvP (RvR) warfare.

Though I have a concern as so far I've been getting a certain feeling from this game. Just how much of a back seat is PvE going to take to PvP? I'm hoping that it'll be balanced out so that the PvE in WAR is just as fun, considered, and rewarding as PvP play for when we feel like taking a break from the intensity of PvP. I know they say they'll balance it, but will they really?

PvE is a core staple of most MMOs that can't be ignored, it completes the feeling that you're in a different world that you can immerse yourself in for an hour or two.

So I guess what I'm trying to say is that I hope WAR is more like DAoC in terms of PvE and RvR except with less restrictions, more PvP options, and more PvP from the get-go. That PvE in WAR doesn't become the PvP of WoW.

"Time.." I chuckled "I hold no secret to time, though it's mystery puzzles me. Deny it's existence and lie to myself not with hopes of a quickened pace."

Content-wise the game will start out 80% PvE and 20% PvP, and then towards  end game it'll be 20% PvE and 80% PvP, so I think it's safe to say that there will be more than enough content with PvE in mind.

The goal of the game is that you can go from start to finish without touching PvP if you wanted, or go start to finish without touching PvE if you want.

(keep in mind by start to finish I'm referring to levels)

Are you sure about this? I thought you had to do some pve due to doing quests to reverse the death points that you get when you die. Personally, I hope that we don't have to do any pve. So if you are right that is good news.

The devs have said that they plan to make the game so that you can level/gear entirely from PVE or entirely from PVP is you want to. Whether they implement that remains to be seen, one needs only look to WOW to see that such promises aren't always carried out.

Yeah and so did the wow devs. If you mean gain exp thru PK's then that'd be different from wow but for gear they said the same thing. You can get gear thru both pvp and pve but the reality is pvp gear is seriously lacking with tier 3 out. In other words you can gear yourself either thru pvp or pve but people everywhere are saying this a fancy copy of WoW. I seriously doubt they will make pve gear and pvp gear will be the same.

Personally I think this game is way over hyped.

there are also "pvp" quests :P - well more like killing NPC from the opposite side, while the opposite have to save them.. this is just an example.

Not talking about Gear when I say you can go through the game entirely by doing PvP, I'm talking about EXP.  They haven't said anything about gear other than it'll be fully customizable in the sense of dyes and being able to turn certain bits on and off to make yourself unique.

Personally, I won't be interested in the game if I feel the need to do one PVE raid, or even buy one item acquired by PVE. I'm looking forward to the game, but Mythic did inflict TOA on DAOC which shows they're not fundamentally opposed to raiding.

I think ToA taught Mythic something about forced raiding to be competitive for RvR.  They really took a beating on that one.  I don't think they are going to make that mistake again.

Yes, but they chose to implement TOA, and inflicted it on the game while they were completely independant. To me, that says that they're certainly not opposed to raiding, and maybe even like it, and that the only reason they might refrain from it is money. That's not really a good sign, especially when they're quite cagey about coming right out and saying that they won't do it again. I hope they won't do it to WAR, but clearly the only thing stopping them is a perception that it would cost subscribers and hence money, which is hardly reassuring.

well, havent played DaoC myself, but i have heard from many that they actual disliked the "grinding" of the expansion, with all the gear, and such.
and im guessing they also told this on the DaoC forums, so why should mythic do it again, if noone actual likes it.
in my small mind, ihave an idea of some of mythic players have played WoW, and have seen what happens with raiding also...

not a flame, just wanna know where this is comming from.

Fc started to announce connan at login almost a year ago when I logged into Ao. of course I clicked on the add...ffs FC making a new game of course I'm gonna fooking look.

nowhere have I seen these figures. the closest was an actual rep expanding on an article that discussed what happened during solo play before the game went live. ( you play solo several hours before joining the community)

From the point you go live how you do things is entirelyup to you. it can be 100% pvp a mix of pvp/pve or PVP. the choiceand yes I say choice is up to the player. look into funcom sites and see this.
