Console or PC

NihilanthNihilanth Member Posts: 1,357

There's been lots of console vs. console threads on here (most for the 3 next gen ones), and a bunch of people made the debate that you can't judge a console before it's released.  So, I'm just going to make a generic poll:  console or PC?  Which do you personally prefer?

For me, it used to be PC all the way, and then I got an XBOX 360.  Love at first play so to speak.  It blends all the features together so well with live, marketplace, achievements, and just a general media station that it blows the doors off PC gaming in my opinion.  I know PCs can get better graphics, but the 360 is infinitely more accessible than even the most user-friendly PC game.  Pretty much the only type of game I still play only on PCs is MMOs.  Everything else goes to my 360.

What are your opinions?

Schutzbar - Human Warrior - Windrunner Alliance - World of Warcraft
Nihilanth - Kerra Paladin - Blackburrow - EverQuest II
XBL Gamertag - Eagle15GT

I'm gonna have to go with PC on this one, consoles are somewhat limited in gameplay capabilities compared to the PC. Although I must admit that consoles are becoming better and better in this regard, the PC still allows for more variety as well as more upgradability. You can spend $600 on a console and that's it, there's your console, nothing else. Whereas with a PC you can buy it, get a game or two, play through them, upgrade to better games and at the same time upgrade your system. Although this may seem expensive, in the long run it allows you to stay more current with gameplay that may be more current than that of a console. Also consider that first it was nintendo, then n64, then ps1, then ps2, then xbox and now xbox 360. With the PC it has been PC, better PC, better PC, better PC, and although there are still upgrades to better models you are not forced to stop playing your favorite game in order to get better gameplay. For example N64 super smash bros, upgrade to a ps2, no more smash bros. I have no problems with new consoles, but as a playstation person I am planning on upgrading to a new PC before I even look at a ps3.

Ya I can deffinitely understand that argument.  However, the rebuttal to that is when you get a console you don't have to WORRY about upgrades.  My 360 is done for the next 6 years.  All I have to worry about is games for it, and all games are made specifically for its hardware.  So that means I don't have to worry about whether or not my video card is good enough to buy a game.  If it's out for my console, it will work fine.

But yeah, I can deffinitely see where you're coming from there.  Especially about the backwards compatibility.

I happen to like consoles. They're much simpler, and more user-friendly. I, personally, am not tech-savvy, and don't want to be forced to spend my time and effort to learn about something if I don't have to. Now, this may seem lazy, but ga,es are for entertainment, and learning isn't very entertaining to me.

I can't wait to get an Xbox 360, then I still won't be able to wait to get PSU for it...

That is understandable, however gaining knowledge through playing games is probably the easiest way to do it. I ended up loving the PC but not know squat about it, ended up forcing myself to learn to walk the walk and eventually it landed me a job in the technology department of a private retail store. Now that I have that knowledge and a job I can use both those things to enhance my gaming experience. I can see why you would prefer the console, about 10 buttons total compared to a keyboard and a mouse. Not to mention figuring out what the heck is wrong with my stupid computer!!?!?? *kick* Some people prefer to go out of their comfort zone and other people don't, there is nothing wrong with either and in the end they will both probably give you what you were looking for.

Its sad to see PCs losing over Consoles on a MMORPG board. If you want a joypad, they're available for PC ya know! And not have to upgrade your console? You're right... However its also obsolete and unupgradeable in the same amount of time the next PC upgrade is necessary. Also game consoles are getting just as pricey as PCs... $600 for a PS3!? Lets not mention that 90% of the good XBox 360 games are also available (and in some cases better graphically) on PC. I can only hope the same for the PS3... Cuz I'm definately not spending $600 to play a few lackluster console rpgs just because the developers are too stupid to port them to PC

And in the next six years (or even the next six months) the PC will runs circles around the Xbox360.  So I'll stick with my PC games.

At least with a PC I can bank, shop, game, chat, IM, e-mail, play music... and do this all at the same time.  I can write reports, watch movies, read...

Xbox360... Play movies, games, music... that's pretty much it.

At the moment I can play Ps2 games on my computer, so I hardly ever play on my ps2.
The only time I actually play a game on my ps2 is when I want to play FFXI.
Other than that..., it's there to look nice.
I use my Xbox as a footstool because it's the best foot stool in the freakin' world.

Pretty much my sentiments.  I'm sure that PC are technically better, but I just don't want to be bothered with the constant upgrades, reformatting, viruses, hacks, patches, glitches, etc.  Sometimes PC games just honestly feel like work.  If I knew more about computers and had more money, then I'd most likely be a PC gamer though.

Also, not having to deal with people like this is a pretty big plus.
