Interesting post on SWG forums ... one person that says it plain and simple.

I found several posts like this one below in a thread started by someone that has finally quit.

Tho there may be some (few at best) servers that are doing better (population wise) than others, it appears that $OE is prepared to take this once GREAT game to the grave.

This thinking amazes me, as I was always believed that a business is in business to make money.

Between all the recent posts in forums and on blogs by people from $OE, coupled with posts like this one, there is little room for doubt that SWGs days are severly numbered. I would even go so far as saying that $OE's days are severly numbered. Why you ask? Because they destroyed a game that has "Star Wars" in the title. Such a game should command a huge following just because it is "Star Wars". But obviously people have their limits .... then leave. To allow a "Star Wars" game to get to that point shows serious problems with the people who are in a position to make decisions.

BTW ... out of 26 replies there are only about 2 that that are flaming the people that either quit or about to quit.

Read it here

"I cant believe I haven't cancelled.  I could probably count the number of times I've logged in in the last 3 months on 2 hands. $45 dollars for what amounts to about 2-3 jours of gameplay, tops. I must be stupid, but I keep hanging on. This game was such a huge part of my life for so long, I can't let go. It makes me sad to see people cancelling. When I think of all of the fun I had in the past with this game, I just can't bring myself to do it. I keep hoping Im going to check the website and find out it's all been a bad dream.

I logged in the other day to set up my expertise abilities, killed a few Bol's and Pickets, went to Restuss, walked around (not one other player was there), got bored and logged out. It's just not fun anymore. Anyone else having this problem? Being totally unable to play the game anymore, but not being able to bring themselves to cancel? I really miss the game I fell in love with

To be honest my last 3 months there were spent mainly just on their forums so I could try to help make it better.  Until I got banned.

Then I realized I was such an idiot for paying for a game I didn't play.  I was so relieved to hit that cancel button.

    These guys will be too....

    In response to that post:

Yes, the graphics have change, the skills, the animations, the expertise, etc.

    They added tons of stuff.

But behind the glitter there is no subsctance anymore.

WoW is a very shallow game. It's glorified "epic" grindfest. First levels, then items, then whatever, don't really know. When people reach 60, get armor and possibly mounts, they quit because there's nothing left to do... But they put 3-12 months into game by then.

Enter SWG. Well, there's legacy quest. And a handful of Mustafarian rewards. And, well, JTL. And you can choose from a handful of armors. But for what purpose? None. None at all. To PvP? No rewards. To collect badges? Does anyone even remember those? To do what?

Major part of pvp aspect in WoW is that high ranked players can wtfpwn lowbies. So lowbies get annoyed and start grinding their epics.

Same with pve. You have the instance raids. Few instances, but looooooong raids. And not guaranteed drops. And you need guild. And it takes a whole day. And you need to participate often to be eligible for drops. And it takes long time. And there's preparation, collecting stuff for wizards or something like that. And you need to buy stuff to keep going. And you need to auction loot. And trade it. And ............... and even more.

All of it extremly shallow, grindish and simplistic, but all things put together, you get an entertaining social experience.

In SWG, there is no progression. There is no leveling. As a matter of fact, leveling is completely pointless. It doesn't do you any good, doesn't grant you any new abilities. It doesn't reward you or do anything. It's just something you NEED to do before you can pvp or pve. And once you reach max level, you realize non of that matters, since it merely serves the leveling process.

The world, the basic concept of SWG is gone. Everything that WoW has and so much more SWG offered. But it wasn't in form of billboards and npc quest and item dispensers, but it relied heavily on inter-player interaction. With that gone, the world is just an empty facade.

They want to make a pvp-enable exciting adventure game? Good and fully equiped teams need 1+ years just to set this up. SWG is promising to patch this on in its current state? Not going to happen. It cannot. There's a reason these things take 1+ years of dedicated development.

I can't help but feel for this guy.

He loved a game that was taken from him by people that could have cared less. He has years of wonderful memories. Years of making friends. Years of building something only to have it ripped from you. He just doesn't want to let go. Nor did I when I finally cancelled ... or probably anyone else for that matter.

His post is probably one of his first steps to actually hitting the cancel button.  A moment of reason, a moment of acceptance, a moment of reckoning, ..... a moment of desperation.

I don't understand why people are even bothering to go to the forums to try and help the devs. If they've made anything clear over the last three years, it's that they don't care what we think. I also don't buy the "I'm just here because my friends are here" line either. Get their AIM address and go find a decent MMO. That and the "I don't play. I just keep an active subscription going, just in case" just piss me off. If you keep giving them money, they'll have no reason to change what they're doing.

I don't understand the try and help the devs attitude either, unless the person is really new to the game and has experiance with MMOs run by better companies that really pay attention to the boards. I love them asking the smugglers if they had any siggestions for their expertise revamp ...... umm only the sticky at the top of the forum that we've submited to you ever time you say your going to give us a revamp

But it wasn't bad. They weren't flaming $OE or anything. They were just voicing how they were feelings/wishes.

Neither were alot of the other I'm leaving and this is why posts I remember from back then. Giving the impression people don't enjoy the game and are leaving isn't what they want on the forums I guess.

"Uh, everything's under control. Situation normal. Uh, we had a slight forum malfunction, but uh... everything's perfectly all right now.
We're fine. We're all fine here now, thank you. How are you?"

    Rekurl,

You brought up some great points both about wow and swg.
Wow, moment lots of new players on our server mid 30s now they are looking at there 60 level counter parts seeing tier 1 2 3 gear knowing that the time and effort it goes in to raiding they will never ever get to the point of being decent due to lack of gear items time.
Some of the quest strings while long are truely in comparison to daoc as far as epic in nature and it seems most of the time is spent traveling to get there only discovering the yellow quest has mobs 5 + levels ahead of you.
You see folks grouping but more and more its 1 high high level and the other up and coming.
When you find a group of middies make a plan they do not listen or work together.

While in a huge guild the disscuion last night on chat was how do we get the 30 something not to lose interest.
I brought up points on if they need help finishing a quest give it to them. Have alt nights don't neceassarily power level all alts.
But the fact is wow has become either pve to end game raid or not raid.
Then swg we had the players we had the tools for player content before nge and much of our enteratinment came not from content but from the other players themselves. From server wide scavenger hunts, weddings, interior decorating, parties fight night .
Without the community the leveling for leveling sake is just something to do .
Perhaps many of us are at this point mmorpged out. The real reason we keep subscriptions going is were not as likely to drop 50 into a singal player game that only gives about 20 hours of enjoyment.

I feel the exact same way as the original poster.  I originally left the game last November after NGE.  I felt the NGE vaccum because my guild and my best friends had all left.  So I felt alone in a world so filled with bugs that I couldnt even walk around a city.  Not to mention my proff got nerfed.

About 6 months later, I decided to give it another try.  I had the bug to play an MMO and really wanted to be backk in SWG.  When I rejoined I hooked up with an old friend in a new guild and suprisingly one of my best friends came back to the game too.

I played happily for until about 2 weeks ago.  Due to people getting so frustrated most of my guild is now dead.  Our city looks like a ghost town.  I'm realizing that the only reason I still played that game was for the community.  And when I'm the only one in the whole frickin server, it gets BORING.  I'm waiting until the school year starts back up to cancel my account (again).  If it doesnt get better by then I'm saying goodbye for good.

If at first you don't succeed, maybe skydiving isn't for you.
