GW or GW Factions?

I went to buy the game today, and they had both GW and GW Factions. Which one do you recommend I get? And don't say both.

I'd get the original first...it's a good intro to the game. (Of course, they're both worth getting)

Get prophecies first, IMO it is more of the game for a beginner player. Glad to hear you are joining up!

Yeah! It's nice to have the original first and but it's highly recommended too to have both. :-)

Get Propehices first - even the GOTY edition.

Here in the UK, its currently selling for only the equivalent of $20.

    Great bargain there.

The origional is a much better story.  The pvp in factions is a cool idea, but controlling a town dosent really matter anyways.

If you care very little for story development, and you don't even need to play through Prophecies to enjoy the Factions story, then I would get Factions, I have both Prophecies and Factions, and I find the Roleplaying experience is greater in Factions. It's faster to level your toons through Factions also, so it's good if you want to try out several characters. As a bonus, the new character models at the character creation screens also look better graphically (more detail, sharper) in Factions then they do in Prophecies.

for the 50th time. YES . lol. but yes, you can import through a quest your proph. toons to factions. so you can  play there pve too. and factions has more skills, classes, and new areas. so i have both and i play factions more. then i will get the new expansion. and do the quest to move my toons to that area. ect. ect.

but yes get factions second. "beat" proph. first tho so you know what your doing.

Well when u get the first Gw so it is a good start on the game... but in later u can notice that in pvp the Faction guys get like 3 new armors (and plenty more new skills) to all prof that makes em much more powerful...

but even when u are getting use 2 ur character u can even beat em but it will take little more time but no one is unbeatable (yet)

In factions you level up too fast.  And just about the only way to get skills is buying them with money which gets expensive.  But if you havent allready learned how to play, then getting factions will pit you against tough enemies while youre still too much of a noob to know how to fight them.  I've seen it happen with a lot of new factions users who skipped the prophecies campaign.

Frankly, both are good for different reasons.

Factions, IMO, is better, because you level up faster, the story is solid but progresses fast, the new classes are good, the models look great (the music is better! but both soundtracks are exceptional).

In proph, though, the story is more in depth (hence, slower), but the two stories are of equal quality.

Factions is easier to get into, since it only takes a day to hit 20 from progressing normally.  However, in proph, it takes weeks to hit 20 potentially

Factions has a lot of skills that are better than proph, but proph has exclusive ones also.

All in all, both are great games, and you should try both of them.  However, if you had to chose one, just flip a coin, as they are both equally as great.

I prefer Prophecies.  If I hadn't gotten Factions for free I still wouldn't own it.

Yeh i agree. Play the first guild wars first then once you are used to it then grab hold of factions. They are both great games so yeh...
