One thing that's really nice about Warhammer is that there really is no good side vs an evil side. Chaos is not evil, it's chaos (look it up) :P Orcs are not evil, they fight cause it's fun (also it's their way of reproducing kinda), i guess the Dark Elves could be seen as evil, but even they are not pervased to the core, and in truth they're not more evil than for instance the Empire can be. The Empire for sure is NOT good :P

In other words, there's no goody two-shoes sides and it feels natural that all parties concerned are simply acting out of self interest.

"Religion is fundamentally opposed to everything I hold in veneration - courage, clear thinking, honesty, fairness, and, above all, love of the truth." - Henry Mencken

"With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion." - Steven Weinberg

"And what would you do with a brain if you had one?" - Wizard of Oz

everybody knows wow is the master nowadays, one way or the other everybody ends comparing games with wow, so, wow rules and will rule for many time, about war lets not speak about screenshots and interviews, when it arrives, in 2007, we will see wich one will be the better. for now, just play wow and stop trying to say this one or that one is better, especially games who will only be launched in maybe a year from now.

    That's a point.

I hope they don't make it too care bare like DAoC. WoW had it right where the noob had to instigate a fight to turn his pvp on. Lienage2 was even ok with the thought of reds running round but DAoC wrapped you in cotton wool.

Not saying that is a bad thing tho, in my opinion the GUI, character control, etc, is much better in WoW than in DaoC (which is probably mostly because DaoC is so old). I wouldn't blame Mythic for trying to attract some of the WoW players or stealing some of the things they think that WoW did well.

The actual combat mechanic in wow is very good I would have no problem at all if Mythic 'borrowed' it.

It's Blizzard's concept and implementation of the PvP system that sucks.

    Perhaps,

But understand, WoW is a great game with a few significant problems.

    1. Non-existant pvp system

    2. Carrot (gear) on a stick method of keeping players playing.

All WAR has to do to be a huge success is to be WoW but with those mentioned problems fixed. And to be perfectly honest that is what I would do. I don't look at new mmo's with the attitude of what new glitter they can offer me. I personally am looking for a game that meets my list of "must haves". From the looks of it, WAR will be that. And I for one am eager to find out what its like [prays for beta account].

That's exactly why i'm following WAR, as that's what i believe they're going to do. Although i don't mind the Carrot on a Stick method (awesome way of putting it btw ) as it gives me something to aim for, then normally the problem is "Ok, i've got it. Now what!?" especially in WoW. With WAR's RvR there seems to be a point of having great gear once you've reached the highest Level, as RvR will (should) always give me something to do.

COncerning the Lore behind both games WOW and WAR.

In wow we all know whats it about a big eveil comes that everyone kills then an even bigger one comes [ A bit like Buffy exept not as good].

In war tho its always beena bout the forces of the chaos gods one chaos champion summons an deamonhuman army to conquor the word everyone else works together to stop him and they kill him.

Next it happens again eveil champion rises to rais an all conqoring army of chaos it gets trashed again.

Sounds the same dont it but here is where its different if you reserch the Warhammer lore you will see that these wars are just tests and that each proceding war involves a Bigger army and the time between invasions is less and less eventually chaos will triumph i think. anyway here is a rough timeline for the wars i know off

    First one 5000 years ago

    second 3000 years ago

    1000 years ago

    NOW

Well, I guess that carrot on a stick method is understandable, but where WAR will be better (in concept) is it allows pve'ers/RvRers to grind by doing things they like. WoW forces you to endure horrible time sinks doing things you learn to hate.

1st of all I dont think WAR and WoW will be alot alike there are too many diffrences in the 2 franchises and Mythic is too good a developer for that to happen.
I dont know how WAR's PvP and PvE will compare with WoW's but I do hope WAR will be alot better then WoW at high level.
After reaching level 60 in WoW the gameplay becomes so boring I get more satisfaction from picking out socks.

The reasons I  follow this game around is because there will be NO LVLS, thank god.

Now the last time I played a MMORPG that didnt have lvls was SWG Pre CU and ow how much more fun it is just doing your own thing, and not having to quest all the bloody time.

So there you go it will automatically NOT be like WoW right from the start as its going to be a lateral advancing scheme rather than a vertical one.

And the Lore is completly different, and so are the fan base, and the graphics, and the game engine, and the developers, and the UI and and and I could go on all day, about how it is going to be completly different to WoW, and therefore better than the game I very much doubt I will re sub on

From the Few mmo's i'm looking forward to. Warhammer Online is by far the best.  It wont be like wow, it will actually be awesome, and players like us will be hooked.

-- I have faith in this game. it will be cool

i love the whammer lore, specially in my warhammer 40k dawn of war.

    Yesss...

From our thrones built of the fine bones of newborns, we will sup nectar of distilled fear and giggle as Blizzard fans are forced to swim in a vile sea of boiling, melted eyeballs.

I want to warn everybody not to expect too much from WAR - I believe, for myself, the initial kick which I got when I tried the DAoC beta and the first weeks of exploring the game won't hit me again. It remembered me of the days when I was playing ELITE for the first time. WoW was completly unable to keep any advanced PvP gamer playing, this is something which WAR must achive.
But there must be something completly different to get that "kick" again - and I am quite sure WAR isn't able to give it to me. The only thing I want is a liviing game which lots of active players in a unknown RvR enviroment and a smooth balance between the realms. Now there are only two realms, the same mistake as in WoW, I would say. The three realms in DAoC were quite nice, but I believe Mythic did think this point over and has a solution, at least I hope so.

And WoW doesn't have "Dodgy lore?"

WoW has no lore.  They killed it.

War is something to look forward to... i worry only that i might not have time to play it... given the many other games being released around the same time.

If you like zerging uber mobs then WOW is your game.

If you want REAL PvP, as in taking over and destroying enemy cities instead of honor grinding in an instance all day, then Warhammer is your game.

I like meaningful PvP, therefore I will drop WOW like a dirty whore once WAR is released.

  • RuthgarRuthgar Member Posts: 730
I don't understand why people say Warhammer is ripping off WoW. Warhammer has been around much longer and really Blizzard loosely based their games on Warhammer (Warcraft=Warhammer, Starcraft=Warhammer 40k).

Comparing WoW to WAR right now is like comparing a 65 Mustand to a 2008 GTO. A known classic compared to an unknown future model. WAR isn't finished yet and I am sure it will be slightly different at release than it is portrayed now. Hopefully Mythic is listening to the complaints of all of the WoW players and they learn from Blizzards mistakes.

I also thought that there will be 3 factions, not just two.

For those of you dont know, in the warhammer universe, its spelt orks, not orcs, orKs, thats cause the wow orCs are a toned down, smarter version of the cool as (and much better) orKs of warhammer. Im going to be an ork in WAR, who else is?

Nope! We are chaos.... Chaos is strong! There shall be blood for the blood god.
